You may have locked the screen. Open Control Center by sliding up with one finger from below the bottom of the home screen. The orientation lock control is at the far right of the top row in Control Center (looks like a lock surrounded by a circular arrow). If it is on, the same icon will be in the menu bar. Also note that not all screens will rotate -- the home screen for example will not.

If your screen still hasn't been able to rotate, I would recommend you take a look at the troubleshooting information in this article:

Some apps don't rotate. Some might use only portrait or landscape mode, or switch depending on the content. To test screen rotation, open the Calculator app that comes with your device. If the screen doesn't rotate when you rotate the device, try these steps:
Check for in the status bar. If you see this icon, Orientation Lock is on. To turn it off, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Control Center and tap .
If you have an iPhone 6 Plus, turn off Display Zoom to rotate the Home screen.
If you have an iPad with a Side Switch, turn the Side Switch on or off.

If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. Make sure you don't have it locked in portrait mode. Is there a symbol at the top right of the phone (near battery indicator) that looks like a padlock with a circle round it? If so, you turn it off by double clicking home button to bring up the multitasking bar and swiping to the right to uncover the button which controls this.

It depends on what image you are referring to. Not everything will rotate on the phone, the home screen being one of them. Check to see if Orientation lock is on, it will display a small lock and circular symbol near the battery icon. It is controlled in Control Center. Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen and Orientation lock is the icon on the far right side of the top row. Tap to turn on or off, white is on, black is off.

This is an issue with the proximity sensor, which has been discussed in hundreds of posts in this forum, which makes you wonder why the search option even exists.
The sensor is either blocked by dust, dirt or a screen protector, or defective. In both cases you'd better take the phone to a Nokia Care Point for assessment
