HT201412 Why do does my iPad need frequent rebooting?

For the past week or so, my iPad2 won't turn on in the morning until I do a hard reset (hold down home button and power button simultaneously until apple logo appears). This is supposed to be a last resort and it worries me that I have to do it so frequently. Any idea what the underlying problem might be?

  • Does an ipad need a screen protector

does the ipad mini need a screen protector or is it tough enough to withstand scratching?

I use Apple's Smart Cover instead of a screen protector.

10 bucks more would get you a Smart Case, which also protects the aluminum back of the iPad.

  • Why does the iPad need to be connected to a host computer to access the app store?

    Is this normal operation?
I remember when I first purchased it that I needed to be connected to a host computer to even just turn it on. At that time I was advised to redo the sign-in and create a password operation and was then able to run the iPad independantly of a host computer.
Is there a way to download apps directly to the iPad without a host connection?

Well, then this thing has gotten into a mode that will not allow the app store connection unless it is connected to a host machine.
It will prompt me for the password, accept it, and then go into an endless loop of saying "Not logged in. Would you like to log in?"
If I enter an incorrect password (as a test) it will tell me "password is incorrect" - so that's not it.
Again, this reminds me of the mode this was in when I first got it and needed to be teathered to simply turn it on.
I'm only using the iTunes backup and restore method. I never learned how to simply clone the iPads HDD volume for absolute foolproof backup so I can not say that I'm able to clone my original HDD image back 100% identical to what it was when this was last working normally.
PS. Yes, the iPad is powered on. Yes, I have wi-fi access. Yes, I have power to my home. Yes, I'm sure. Yes, I've done this before and it used to work.

  • What does an ipad need in order to connect to the internet?

I have an an wireless internet router at home from Verzon. Can my ipad connect to the internet using that or does it need something else? What is the wifi+3G data plan? I really don't get this wifi and wifi+3G thing. Can u explain it to me?

Nope. You should be good. Any iPad can connect to almost any WiFi network.
WiFi is the wireless network created by wireless routers or base stations.
    All iPads support wifi.
3G is the ability to get internet over cell towers. Like a cell phone, only data.
The 3G data plan allows you to get data from the provider, in the US it's ATT and Verizon.

You do not need to offer and you should not offer payment payment for help on a user to user support forum. None of us participate here looking for payment. That is not how this forum works.
Have you tried restoring the device to factory settings? You should backup first, restore to factory settings and them restore the backup as described in here.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
Make sure that you read the last part of the article about using recovery mode to restore. You might need to use it.

  • HT4623 Does an ipad need anti-virus software? If so, which software is good?

I've been looking at different web sites, but it seems there is no information about protection against malware on my new ipad. It seems to be a fairly relevant and big question when on gets a new computer. Can anyone help?

Between the inherent security of the iOS design and the tight control Apple keeps over applications, there are no known malware exploits in iOS (with the possible exception of some small browser exploits demonstrated in "contest" settings).  Therefore anti-virus software is (a) not needed and (b) not available at the app store.

  • HT203163 Does an iPad need an anti-virus protection?

I just got a new iPad but I don't know if it needs an anti-virus because I want to protect it and I don't want it to slow down or get hacked.

There are no viruses affecting ios devices.

  • IPad needs frequent resets

I have a brand new 64GB 3G iPad. After using it for around ten to fifteen minutes the icons begin to jerk violently back and forth ans the screen no longer responds to touch commands. After a soft reset it begins to work again...for awhile until the same thing happens again. Anyone have a fix, or do I have a defective unit that needs to go back for exchange?

I believe this is a normal thing. If you hold a tap on an icon, the icons will shake and you won't be able to open them, but you can move them around. To make it stop without resetting, just press the home button.
You probably would have known this, but in case you didn't that's what it sounds like. If that's not the case, then yes have it checked out by Apple.

  • Does the IPAD need a antivirus & firewall program?

I just purchased a new 32g G yesterday and need to know if I need AV & Firewall protection. I called McAfee that I use on my pc but They only sell a family protection pkg that doesn't provide av or firewall protection

  • Can't find the set up ipad    Need to reboot the system and recover from icloud but not sure how to do this

Not certain how to reboot the ipad.   Had some instructions but alas stumped on set up.   I have backed up in ICloud but need to get to a "set up"process

You restore from an iCloud  backup on the iPad itself. You have to reset the iPad in the settings app. Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. You will then be starting from the beginning - you will be setting the iPad up all over again.
This article explains how to do it.

  • Travel to Europe electrical conversion will my iPad need a converter?

Does the iPad need a converter or just the adapter to plug in for charging without damage?

  • Security filter against AD groups. When you add a computer, does it need to reboot to fall into scope.

This should be an easy one. I have a 2008r2 domain. When I add a computer to an AD security group, so it will get targeted from a GPO that has that same group in its security filter, does the computer need to reboot to start processing any part
of that policy?  It has always seemed that computers need a reboot to pick up their group memberships, but I wanted to double-check.
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
Normally for a computer account to become aware of the group membership change a reboot is required.
Also some group policy can be applied after a comouter reboot. So I'd suggest to reboot your compputer.
    Best Regards,
    Elaine
