HT201412 will i lose apps, photographs on a restore?

did an ios 6 update and there were problems. Now itunes asking to do a restore. will i lose apps, photographs on a restore?

Hi there,
Wondering if you might know?  I don't have enough space to update the new software on iPad.  So my facetime isn't working anymore, this is prob why. Seems I have to delete like all the games/apps we have to do so.  Will I lose the progress data/levels in the games? But how do I back up the games data?
Please help.  Scared to delete them to update and then not have the space to restore them and if I get them again will the levels/progress be gone?
Thanks Rachel

If you restore the iPad to your last backup then you will lose any content you've added or changes that you've made since you took that backup i.e. it will put back to how it was at the time of that backup

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimize Loss... Once you have Recovered your Device... Restore from the most recent Backup...

I need to restore my iphone 4.  Will I lose my pictures if I restore from backup?

Possible if there is a problem with your iPhone's backup in regards to this data with no way to know this in advance.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.

  • Syncing iPod to new computer - will I lose app progress?

I moved all my iTunes media from my iMac to my Macbook using an external hard drive. If I sync my iPod touch to my Macbook, putting all the transferred files on my iPod, will I lose progress I've made in apps such as Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies scores?

Yes unless you restore your iPod from the backup of your iPod. Move the backup file from your old computer to you new on and then restore from backup. You can find the location of the backup file here in the About Syncing and Backups topic.

  • Will I lose apps when I upgrade my mac

Ok, so here's my question: I am a macbook pro user which has two user accounts, mine and my wife's. I have installed app's like photoshop elements and aperture and my wife has installed ms office on her side. Our permissions allow each of us to use apps on both sides (i.e when I log in to my side I can use MS word, and she can use photoshop in her side).
I am about to buy my own macbook. On purchase I will copy the HD from my old mac onto the new one. From here on in I intend to delete my wife's profile so there is only one user account on my new machine. By doing this, will I lose access to MS word?? and when she deletes my account on her mac, will she lose access to photoshop??
    Thanks in advance

Ordinarily, any OS X upgrade should never delete anything already on the computer.  However, bad things can and do happen sometimes, for all sorts of reasons.  In the rare event that the upgrade does not go exactly as expected, a full system backup will be your only protection of your data, and your best means of recovering everything back to your previous useable state.
Personally, as far as major system update or upgrades, I recommend making a full, bootable system clone to an external drive before updating.  That way, if the update fails, you can boot from your clone and have your old system fully functional to trouble shoot from, or to simple clone back to your internal drive if you do not want to try the update again.
The shareware apps Carbon Copy Cloner (Bombich software) or SuperDuper (Shirt Pocket software) are the simplest tools to make a full, bootable clone of your current system.

  • If i restore will i lose apps and etc?

okay, so i heard that if i restore i can reset the passwords but what will i lose?

If you use the computer that you sync with then you can resync your content and/or restore from a backup.

  • Will I lose game progress if I restore

I have a lot of other memory on my iPad 2 and want to know if I restore it will I lose all my game progress in things such as tribez and ice age island ( if I back up on my pc )

If you restore to factory settings only - yes you will lose the game progress because you will be wiping everything off of the iPad.
If you create a backup first, then restore to factory settings and then restore from the backup - and sync with iTunes at the very end of the process, that will restore your saved progress to the games on the iPad.
But keep this in mind ... there may be something in that backup that is casuing that bloated "other" and if you restore from the backup and the bloated "other" comes back - the only way to get rid of it is to restore the iPad and not use the backup.
Read this before you restore the iPad.

  • HT4718 Will I lose my data if I restore OS X mountain lion?

my iMac will not start and various post suggest restoring OS X mountain lion. What will happen to my date?

There is a way to back up your system via the OS X Utilities from the Recovery HD.
Boot into the Recovery HD using either Recovery Mode or Internet Recovery.
At the OS X Utilities Menu, select Disk Utility.
Plug in a USB external drive. Make sure you have a partition larger than your Macintosh HD and the drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with the GUID partition table.
Select your Macintosh HD then click the Restore tab.
Select your Macintosh HD as the Source and the USB external drive as the Destination. Click the Restore button. This will block copy your Macintosh HD over to the USB drive. It's basically a clone.
Once the above steps are done you can format your Macintosh HD and Reinstall OS X.

  • If I install Bootcamp will I lose apps I already have installed on my computer?

I've been using my mbkpro for over a year now, so if the process of trying to setup Bootcamp at this point means my drive gets wiped, it would take me forever to reinstall all my apps and files from scratch.
    So my query is:
    1. Can I install Bootcamp WITHOUT needing to reinstall 3rd party software and everything in my Home folder, and my OSX and iLife software?
    2. If that is not possible, can the reinstalling be "softened" by "just" copying everything over from a bootable external hard drive back up?
    3. If a bootable backup would work, will it also work for my 3rd party apps (eg: Adobe apps, camera software) not only photos and saved text files, or OSX?
    4. And what is the best way for me to go about making a Bootable back up onto an external HD? I currently use Time Machine - would this work, or would I need something like Carbon Copy Cloner?
Leading from that 1 further thing:
If i were to install Windows, I need a min of Windows XP SP3 or higher for one of the things that i want to use it for (a game.) When I searched thro the discussions I found some threads that mentioned that you would need to install a copy of SP1 before even upgrading to SP2... is this true? I never use PC's and know very little about them or their OS...
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

Thanks for replying, this sounds really useful.. I always thought when I partitioned a drive it erased anything I had on it already ( it's been a few years since I last did this so can't remember really ...)
Partitioning doesn't delete anything from the hard disk. It just uses free space of one partition to create a new partition.
    Ro Hui wrote:
    - when i partition my HD (internal) the process of partitoning will NOT wipe anything that's already there?
You don't lose anything. However, you must be careful during Windows installation, because you have to format "BOOTCAMP" volume (if you are going to install Vista or 7), and you have to install Windows on that partition. If you don't do it, you will lose your files.

    - and I should partition my external HD ( is the one i use for Time Tunnel back ups ok?) and make a bootable of my clone onto this before anything else?
    You are right

  • Will i lose apps when I install mountain lion?

I'm concerned that I will lose vital applications such as QuickBooks for Mac if I upgrade to Mountain Lion.  I know that in the past non-compliant software simply didn't have access to all features.  With Lion, however, I lost non-compliant applications all together.  I want to make sure I will not experience a similar problem now (and, please, do not scold me for buying intuit.  I already know they take forever to impliment changes on the Mac).

Apps that did run succesfully in Lion will usually continue to do so. The problem with Lion was the absence of rosetta for old ppc apps such as Microsoft Office 2004 or some games .
Because MountainLion is the refined Lion so to speak and the Lion users already are aware of the ppc problem, everything should run smooth as butter.
The only thing new to OSX 10.8 is Gatekeeper that could hinder a succesful installation or execution (because it tries to block every not signed app/installer ) , for me GK is a doubtful feature, which I have set to disabled after it first asked me - "allow from any source" is then the same as it was in Lion and before, you can install every Intel app that is intended for Lion .
But -if you plan to use Gatekeeper - : you can also bypass Gatekeeper via right-clicking an installer one time and leave it enabled for all the other apps.
Nobody can do the testing for you of course. You might want to install OSX 10.8 to a external drive to evaluate the apps you are worrying about. Then if you are succesful you could re-run the installer to update the main drive also  .

  • Will I lose apps installed on SD card?

    Hi,
I've spent some time searching for my answer, but I was unsuccesful, so here's the question:
I've got installed some apps on SD card (Modern Combat 4 and TrackRacing Online) and I'm going to change this SD card (from 32 GB to 64 GB). If I copy ALL the content of the first card to the second card (which is formated of course), will these apps work?
    Thanks for any answer.

Sounds pretty dumb to me. It should be easy for an app to verify, if it has been purchased. First, every phone has its unique codes and numbers (for ex. IMEI), second, my phone is kind of "binded" to my Microsoft account, right?

  • Will I lose my games if I restore factory settings?

I received a message asking if I wanted to update to iOS7, I clicked yes; now it wants to sync with my iTunes but will only do this if I restore factory settings.  I cannot use my iPad as it is stuck with a screen telling me to plug it into iTunes.....
If I agree to restore factory settings (and lose all data), does this include losing apps and games?  I don't have photos or music on my device
If I will lose everything can I somehow get rid of the screen telling me to plug into iTunes and go back to how things were before?
    thanks

If you restore factory settings, your iPod, iPad, iPhone will erase everything, and leave you with a device the same way it came out of the box.

  • Will I Lose Game Data If I Restore To Factory Settings?

Just a quick question, even though i've backed up my ipod would I lose game data (i.e highscores and levels) if I was to restore it to factory settings?... obviously I mean once i've restored the backup. Cheers

As long as you back up before you restore you are fine.

How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose apps that came with the Mac Book if I recover it?

Press the command and r keys when turning on your Macbook.  Do not release those keys until you see the apple logo...
Disk Utility will pop up.....Your choices are to reinstall, you will not lose anything....
if however, you decide to format/erase your drive, then reinstall, you will lose everything...
suggestion - back everything up and do a clean install.
    good luck
