  • Corrupt iPod can not restore

For some reason my 5th Gen iPod has become corrupt.
When connected to iTunes I get a message to restore it which I have done several times.
Is there a file on my Mac that is also corrupt causing the iPod to be restored which continues to corrupt it?
Once I connected it to another Mac and gave it a different name it has behaved so far. If I change the name to what it had been the silliness starts all over again.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue?
    Thanks,

  • Can't restore backup - error 32

    Hi!
I can't restore a backup to my iPhone. I'm trying since two days now and my nerves are on edge.
I try to make a long story short:
I had broblems with the wi-fi and made a backup to restore the iPhone. It seems like everything worked fine until I connected my phone to iTunes to restore the backup. Then the following message occures:
"iTunes konnte das iPhone "+name iPhone+" nicht wiederherstellen, da ein unbekannter Fehler aufgetreten ist (-32)"
translation: "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "+iPhone name+" because an unknown error occurred (-32)"
I tried the following things to solve the issue:
    - restartet iTunes, PC and iPhone
    - used different USB-connectors
    - reinstalle iTunes
    - downgrading to iTunes 9.0
    - installed iTunes on a new PC and transferred all iTunes-date incl. backups into the corresponding directories
    - cleared sync history
On the "old" PC after the restore I had also the messages:
"iTunes konnte sich nicht mit diesem iPhone verbinden, da ein unbekannter Fehler aufgetreten ist (0xE800000A)"
translation "iTunes could not connect with this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800000A)"
    and:
"iTunes konnte die Anbieterdaten nicht von Sync Services abrufen. Stellen Sie die Verbindung neu her und versuchen Sie es erneut"
translation "iTunes could not retrieve the provider data from Sync Services. Reset the connection and try again"
    I would urgently need assistance!
    Thanks and regards,
    paraglider

Today I got a new iPhone. Wanted to restore the backup I made from the previous iPhone (same OS version, same iTunes version) but receive the same error message:
"iTunes konnte das iPhone "name iPhone" nicht wiederherstellen, da ein unbekannter Fehler aufgetreten ist (-32)"
translation: "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "iPhone name" because an unknown error occurred (-32)"
PLEASE HELP! The are some data in this backup I haven't elsewhere (pictures, memos, voice-memos). Besides I don't want to configure everything again (would take me hours).
    Regards,

  • 4th Gen iPod - Can't Restore

I have a 4th generation iPod. I had a song start to skip one day and the next time I tried to connect to my computer iTunes did not recognize my iPod.
I've gone through all the suggested steps on the website even up to and including uninstalling/reinstalling the usb mass storage device, updating driver etc. The iPod is now listed with the usb mass storage device and I tried updating the driver but it says everything is ok or no newer driver than what I have already is available. But Itunes does not see my iPod and keeps freezing up. When I did get it to recognize an iPod it only said iPod and listed it as having a problem and suggested to Restore but when I hit restore it couldn't do it. Now it won't recognize the iPod at all. How do I wipe out the iPod and start over? I've also tried iPod Updater 2006-01-10 and 2006-03-23 and I get the message Invalid iPod Service Version and it closes. I have to put the iPod in Disk Mode to disconnect. When I hit button and menu to reset, after the apple appears I get the !folder error message.
This is so weird I never had any problems and then I noticed a song started to skip and then it was skipped over and the next time I connected to my computer I had all these problems listed above!

    Hi!
I have a similar problem, only I know what caused it. I didn't know that my iPod wasn't compatible with Windows Vista, and i was transferring a few documents from my desktop with XP to my Laptop with Vista.
Being as it was a new system it didn't have iTunes installed, so i did the whole "windows safely remove hardware" thing, and it corrupted my iPod. Now, it'll skip songs it can't play, drain my battery, and my XP computer will not recognize it. iTunes crashes when i have it running and connect my iPod to try and restore, and i'll even use the old "iPod Updater" things, and I get the Invalid Service Number error.
I don't care if it erases all the data and songs on it, i just want to be able to restore it to its factory settings so i can have my songs re-synced and playable again.
if you have any solutions, please email me at [email protected]

  • Can't add music. Can't restore. Error messages galore.

A few weeks ago my husband plugged in his iPod Classic 160GB into my iBook. It began to sync music, as per usual. After a short time there was an error message basically saying it couldn't sync "cannot create/read/write" or something to that effect (says my husband who is driving me up the wall for weeks about this but won't post here and ask for help).
There are other messages that (he says) say things such as "disc cannot be found" and another saying "file is being used/busy", also getting "cannot restore iPod/files not found", and a plethora of related messages. We own three other iPod's which are used with the same iBook (nano and shuffle's). All three sync, and are working, perfectly fine.
It was not dropped. Not exposed to harsh elements. It has not suffered any physical damage. Please, please, please help, if you can. Thank you.
    * He just decided to share with me he has tried resetting it many times and received error messages on those attempts.
Tried restore and after an hour into synching error messages would begin and only 1/3 of the music would be on the iPod.
Tried enabling disc use, same error messages.
Tried the suggestion of plugging another device in an open USB port while trying to sync, still error messages.

Why not? We would need to know what you mean in order to help you....
    Cheers,

  • IPod cannot be restored . Error 1601.

My iPod Touch recently went blank on me. While listening to Obladi Oblada it suddenly off to show the apple logo for about 25 seconds, and never to turn on again. Once in a while, if I press the sleep/wake button, it shows the apple logo and it'll bring me to a white, flickering screen. Other than that, that's as good as it gets. My iPod seems to not even turn on. The screen won't turn on, at least. I plug it into my pc and I iTunes says it;s detected an iPod in recovery mode, but when trying to restore it ays I can't with error 1601. I followed apple instructions and tried uninstalling all the junk they told me. I saw the article on their site. It didn't work, and my iPod Touch still won't turn on. HELP!! I just got it in the mail, do I have to send it back already???

  • Can't restore iPhone error 1015

Was trying to sync my iPhone in iTunes and it said it needed to upgrade so I said ok and now it won't restore because of error 1015 what do I do?

    try this
    hat is iPhone DFU mode?
DFU mode is a state that you can put your iPhone into where it can interface with iTunes but does not load the iPhone operating system or boot loader (this is what really differs DFU mode fromrecovery mode). DFU stands for Device Firmware Update.
What is DFU mode used for?
The primary reason people need to access DFU mode on their iPhone is to change the firmware on the device. This can serve to downgrade to a prior iPhone firmware and operating system, or to use a custom firmware that is required for a jailbreak or SIM unlock. For instance, if you got theiPhone OS 4 download installed and decided you would rather have a prior version of the firmware on your iPhone, you would need to do this through DFU mode.
How to enter iPhone DFU mode
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black
Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).
Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.
    Exit DFU mode on iPhone
The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.
And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPod touch.
The most common use for DFU mode is to jailbreak. It’s not unusual for people to buy an existing iPhone and jailbreak the device to use the phone on another network or overseas, this is often a cheaper way to get an iPhone than to sign into a contract with AT&T, pay roaming charges, or pay the full iPhone 4 price. This is assuming you can find someone with the new iPhone that will sell it, considering how tight iPhone 4 availability and demand is at the moment, that might be difficult!

  • HT1766 If i have forgotten the password to my 4th gen. iPod can i restore it without erasing it?!?

I have forgotten the password to my iPod 4th gen. I have gone through the process of trying and trying to enter it until i get to the "connect to iTunes" screen. I do this and i follow specific directions until i get to the "Restore iPod" option. This also tells me that by restoring my iPod i will erase all media and data. I really don't want to do that... Can someone help me to figure out if i can "enable"/get back onto my iPod without erasing everything?!?!?!
P.S. - I am especially worried about losing my photos

Unfortunately, the only way to get past a forgotten passcode, it to restore it in iTunes on your computer.   There is no way to retrieve a forgotten pass lock code.  Restoring it, does erase the data on it, however if you ever synced this data over to the computer, then you can always sync it back.
You will need to Restore your device from the same computer that you most recently synced to. See - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

  • Please Help! - iPod can't restore

Hi. I am using a 30gb 5th gen iPod on a system running Windows XP. I've had this problem for about a week now, and I've tried everything.
My iPod simply won't restore. I connect the USB, run iTunes, and hit restore - iTunes says it is restoring, and it completes this process. It says the iPod is resetting and when it reboots it will have its factory settings. The iPod screen has the blue reset bar, and it does reset, but when it is finished, I get the same screen I had before - "Connect iPod to computer and restore with iTunes." I get this over and over and over.
Originally, I was getting the error 1418 message, but that has stopped, now it's just doing this.
PLEASE help me! I am desperate. I used that thing everyday, now I am going insane.

I trust that you've tried the 5R basic stuff. Resetting the ipod with the buttons, etc. I saw another post where a Windows user put the ipod into disk mode (I think it was pressing center button and forward arrow) just after the iPod was rebooted, then connecting it to iTunes and restoring. Hope that helps.

  • Can't Restore iPad - Error 9

I'm hoping someone can help me.  In the middle of syncing my iPad with iTunes, it failed and the iPad began endlessly rebooting.  It never got past the Apple logo.
I managed to put it into recovery mode and attempt to restore.  When restoring, I got an error 9 indicating a USB issue.  I followed all of the troubleshooting steps (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286) recommended by our Apple friends.  I tried different cables, and I tried a different computer.
I run Windows 7 - 64 bit.  All of my software (OS, iTunes) and drivers (Apple mobile USB driver) are up to date.  I did not Jailbreak my iPad.  I play by the rules.
During the restore process I watched the USB driver in the device manager.  I could see it pop in an drop out, and always at key times in the restore process.  It dropped out for the last time after the iPad began displaying the progress bar.
My feeling is that it is not a hardware problem since it occurs so predictably in the restore process, and never prior to starting the restore.
I think error 9 is reported by default as the most available error to trap, but I don't think it is the cause.
A lot of people seem to have this problem, but I have never seen a posted solution.  Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

I went to see the Apple "geniuses" today.  They performed the same steps, and got the same results.
It seems the way to solve the problem is to get another iPad.  It came at a reduced price, but it still cost me $280 after tax for another 64GB 3G.
