  • Ipod Updater issue

Not sure what's going on here. I was connecting my iPod to my computer and was asked if I wanted the new iPod update. I said "okay," but now it's randomly refused to have about 250 songs of mine load on my computer. It said something about I need to update the software? Didn't I just do that with the updater? I'm running iTunes 5 already. It's really strange, like it will pick one song from an album and say that my software is too old to upload that song....but it will gladly take the rest of the songs from that album. Someone please help. This is frustrating.

Download the latest updater from http://www.apple.com/ipod/download and install it, then run it and attach the iPod when it tells you to do so. This will let you update the iPod.
You need to have the latest ipod software to play music purchased from the music store.

  • IPod Updater issue & more

I have tried to correct the 'Do not disconnect' message from my nano iPod & nothing works. Have followed all suggested steps. I also tried iPod Updater & when I launch I get a message saying:'IPod service error'.
    Help I have tried everything.
    Thanks!

What exactly have you done to correct the message, so that we might suggest others?

  • Ipod update issues. podcast issues. tv show problems. very angry.

Ok. I have a barrage of problems. I went to the apple store and they gave me a new ipod hoping that fixes some of the issues. It didn't. I won't be in town for a while so I cant go back to the store.
First off. I originally had a post about my problems here.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8362332#8362332
What changed from that, since getting the new ipod, is that I deleted all my tv shows ( i havnt even tried to replace them yet) I deleted and re-subscribed my podcasts. Now when i try to update my ipod, the podcasts freeze up and crash the ipod.
I have done EVERYTHING to try and fix this.
    I fixed permissions.
    Reinstalled, itunes and quicktime.
Deleted anything with itunes in it name.
    Deleted preferences.
Deleted all my podcasts and re downloaded them.
This just started happening, i don't remember downloading anything to cause this.
If anyone can help, that would be cool.
Also, I get this on my console repeatedly,
    11/3/08 12:40:13 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.app4mac.CheckUpAgent[1202]) posix_spawn("/Applications/CheckUp.app/Contents/MacOS/CheckUpAgent", ...): No such file or directory

Ok. New development. I have a bootable external and I backed everything up to it. I decided to boot into it, and voila! Everything plays and works fine. I updated my ipod and only one problem still exists. Podcast still transfer without me wanting them to. Everything else is fine. I'm beginning to wonder if its a hardware problem on my mac.

  • IPod update issue

I'm using a iPod 3g on 4.2.1, and i've been trying to update it. But whenever I check for updates it says 4.2.1 is the current version. I updated iTunes, and used different computers but no luck...

It is probably a 2nd gen ipod.  Is it 8GB?  If so, then it is second gen.

  • IPod updater issues!

    Hi,
So, I've had my nano since Christmas and last week after listening to a podcast it gave me the folder with an exclamation point error message. Since that point in my life I have been trying to update my software as suggested. I ended up uninstalling iTunes and kept getting error messages when trying to install the newer version (itunes.cab not found). I was finally able to install iTunes and it is now working again. However, I am still having no luck with the updater. I've tried installing it about 10 times now. I thought it finally worked, since I seemingly made it through the install process, but alas it is just giving me an error message. After it says initializing it says iPod service error. I've also tried just using the stuff from the cd that came with it, but no luck there either. I am having nano withdrawals. If any fabulous person out there can give me some advice I would appreciate it. Thanks!

  • HT201413 ipod update

  • My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
    Any help would be apprecated.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

  • Ipod update download issue

i am downloading the latest ipod update and during the download a message came up and said that there was a connection error and now its downloaded 180.7 MB out of 165 MB so far and the progress bar is extending over the stop button. is there something wrong with the file?

    you get it from here...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20050906.html
note that it does not add screen lock to previous models, this 'update' only adds support for the ipod nano, it is otherwise identical to the ipod updater released almost three months ago

  • HT201413 cannot contact iPod updater

I 'm running Windows XP Media Center Ed. v. 2002 SVP3 32bit. I have an older iPod mini stuck in recovery mode (eclamation point w/folder). When I try to update/restore I get a message stating that the iPod updater cannot be contacted. I've uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes several times and have the current version.
    Can anyone out there help?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Are you connected to the Internet? If yes, try another connection (e.g. take a cable instead of WiFi).
Next, restart your computer, and open iTunes. Open Task Manager (PC) or Activity Monitor (Mac), and kill/quit the process named "iTunesHelper" (in Windows, it's "iTunesHelper.exe").
Then shut down the iPod, plug the cable into the pod, then plug the cable in a USB port.
    Then try restoring again.

  • Unable to install itunes 10.5 after update issue. "windows installer package error"

So when the update for itunes happened, it wiped my ipod, and then my ipod would not work with itunes. So I uninstalled itunes and tried to reinstall it and it gives me that error message. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have tried all the fixes from deleting everything to running command prompts. I think i tried everything.
Method 1: Right click on the setup file and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator'
Method 2: Open command prompt in elevated mode and, then unregistered and re-register Windows Installer.
    1. In the Start search box and then type 'cmd', when the command application appears at the top of the start window, right click on it and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator' and type each of these commands in the command prompt and press Enter

       • msiexec /regserver

    3. Set the Startup type of Windows Installer to Manual
    4. Click Start to start the service. Note down the error message if any.
    5. Click OK.

follow the steps and check whether you can resolve the issue:
Method 4: Empty your Temp directory and restart
    1.       Choose Start > Computer
    2.       In Computer, open the "C:" drive.
    3.       Open the Users folder.
    4.       Double-click the folder titled with your username.

    6.       Choose Organize > Folder and Search Options.
    7.       Click the View tab.

    Method 5: Removing iTunes
Note: iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes.
    1.       Quit iTunes.
    2.       From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    3.       In Control Panel, click Uninstall a program. The Programs and Features Control Panel opens.

    6.       After the uninstallation is complete, do not restart your computer if you are prompted to.
    7.       If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Programs and Features remove those as well.
    8.       In Programs and Features, also remove any iPod Updater applications that are listed in the same fashion as you removed iTunes.
Method 6: You may also try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and run that to remove the leftover ITunes installer files that may be causing issues with your current installation.
You may refer the following article to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

I was able to install quick time just fine. All of the other apple software associated with itunes installed fine but itunes did not. Im not sure if there is a virus that could do this. I didnt delete anything but apple folders.
I have tried other things but i cant remember exactly there were.
When the install process for itunes is running it changes with the error message shows up during install.
    Thanks.

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.

  • I think the latest ipod updater is broken...I don't recommend using it.

    Hi all,
I had ipod 30 gig video number 1. It would lock up and couldn't be reset so you had to wait for the battery to die to charge it up to use it again. Then it started skipping tracks. Then one day, post an update attempt of the firmware, the dreaded folder with an exclamation mark came up.
Well I finally managed to get the updater to try to restore it only to have it come back with 'firmware update failure - disc write error'. I figured it was just that the hardrive was toast.
So I took it to the Apple care center and got ipod 30 gig video number 2 replacement! Yea!
Brought it home, plug it in to charge a bit - said do not disconnect for a couple hours so I finally disconnected it. I could see the menus so it was working at this point.
Then I ran THE DREADED IPOD UPDATER!
Firmware update failure - disc write error!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!
Boom, right back to where I was with the first one. Can only either get 1) the folder of doom (explamation mark folder) or 2) disc mode; do not disconnect to show up.
Itunes 6.05 (reinstalled several times at this point) wont see it.
Ipod updater will come back with 'cannot continue because another app is using the the ipod' - except it has given me this message even when the ipod is not connnected!
I have tried pluggin in ipod with just itunes going, just the updater going, nothing going and starting itunes and nothing going and starting the updater. I have swapped the usb cable. I have stood on my head and whistled a tune.
    Nothing works.
I have gone thru the 'when your itunes does not see your ipod while windows does page' to no avail. I am not going to reinstall windows on a machine that is working perfectly well. Basically, these issues all started when I downloaded the newest ipod updater.
I am going to see if I can get an older copy or something but this is downright ridiculous. I have spent basically 3 hours tonight shutdown/restarting and searching for the phone number to call for my 90 days or support call to no avail on the website.
So, good luck people, you are going to need it!

    Hey there,
So I finally got the itunes 6.05 installed on the office machine as well as the ipodupdater 6/28/06.
I started itunes. I started the updater and it said hook up an ipod to update. I hooked up the ipod and after a bit (1 minute) I was given the option to restore (but not update). I choose restore and after about 2 mins it was restored and progress bar on ipod had moved as well as on the main computer screen. Then it showed the menu briefly (yea!) but then went to do not disconnect mode (boo). Fortunately, after another few minutes I was given the option to name the ipod on the main computer and then after that the ipod went back to its menu screen so I quick unplugged it.
So now I am back where I was when I took it from the shop the other day. Now to see if I can get songs on it tonight at home.

  • Why can't we get a straight answer from Apple about updater issues?

Why are there thousands and thousands of posts from people all having the same issue? We try to update IPod software using latest updater, and it causes IPod to no longer be recognized. All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM! Yet all we get are refferals to complicated articles that never seem to work for at least half the people. Clearly it is a problem with these updaters. WHY IS APPLE NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE? Can anyone give me a straight answer!?

    Hi Wolf,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    "thousands and thousands of posts"
There are roughly 10,300 thread with 50,000 posts in the iPod Nano forum, and there are probably another 500,000 who don't even know it exists. I don't there there has been a thousand posts on the updater issue. It may seem like thousands upon thousands, but don't forget; you're at an Apple Support Forum.
"All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM!thousands and thousands of posts"
There's no need to "shout". I don't think Apple is going to hear you from shouting in a user to user forum. Nor will you probably get a answer (here) from Apple for the same reason. I have a -------- (straight) answer for you. I don't know what's going on specifically (no one really knows in this forum because they are all users. Anyone who would know won't say), but I can assure you that Apple isn't ignoring the issue. They are the quickest to respond to any problem that comes their way. If you would like to get Apple's attention, I don't suggest ranting and raving in the iPod user to user forum. I suggest submitting polite feedback to Apple here.

  • Is it possible to Uninstall the latest ipod update?

I, like others on this board, made the mistake of trusting Apple to produce software that does no harm. Windows XP has a facility where you can go back to a restore point. Does anyone know of a Unix command that will do something similar? I was using my ipod as a hard drive and was booting from it. I was running 10.2.8. Recently, my primary user account became unusable, but I had another admin account that I was able to boot from. Since I used the ipod updater, my ipod (has 4 buttons) will not mount. I have tried it with 2 different G4 imacs and an old ibook(G3). System profiler sees it as a firewire device, but Disk Utility cannot see it. I did recently back it up, but I think everyone would really appreciate it, if Apple issued a bug fix. Go to the Apple store, and they will tell you to just buy a new one......
    ipod Mac OS X (10.2.x)

I fixed my ipod by hitting it. Not hard, but hard enough to move the platters. You do not have resort to reformatting, opening the case and shaking it, or sending it in for repair. Just hit it. If it's not working and out of warranty, you have nothing to lose....
