Before trying the update again, use Microsoft's Fix it solution at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall. Use it to uninstall iTunes and Quicktime. It bypasses this not uncommon problem. When the solution finishes, the selected program will be uninstalled. It can take several minutes and I have seen as much as half an hour.
After iTunes & Quicktime are uninstalled, try the update again.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

My iphone 3Gs has gone into recovery mode after updating via itunes..help..

I plugged my iphone 3gs into itunes yesterday and it started to update the software - presumabley to 10.5? - came back to it an hour later and it was displaying an image of a usb cable and itunes symbol which i now undertand means its gone into recovery mode.
I tried to restore it to the factory settings as advised but it won't work. Its telling me "This device could not be restored, it is not eligible for the requested build"
Please help - this phone is not jailbroken!

Ok, after 2 nights searching forums and trying different things I have managed to find a solution. I had to add a '# ' at the begining of the host directory. This means nothing to me and I had to follow the steps in the following link but it worked perfectly -

actually, there should be a sim card in the slot. It will not have been activated, but it should be there. just open it up and check. also...be careful about where you are traveling internationally, especially if you are using data. A few countries (not most, about 40...many in Asia and South America) use both CDMA and GSM. on your 4s you do not have an option to choose what Network System you want to use (GSM, CDMA, AUTO etc). On my recent trip to Venezuela, my 4s only grabbed CDMA which left me without email, web and texting...not good for a business trip. After several hours on the phone with Verizon, I discovered that they are pushing an update to all Verizon 4s phones (not sure if it is ALL 4s phones or just those that have had their sims activated). Was told the PRL version number for this is 52638 (a number which is outside the range of the November PRL listings). what happened to me was either 1) my phone was never pushed this PRL (the push happens on Mondays and Tuesdays), or my phone may have been pushed the update but if *228 is pressed, that will overwrite the PRL so you are out of luck! in any event, if you are traveling to one of these countries and you want data, be sure you not only activate your sim, but that you have the proper PRL in your phone. Remember, until they come up with a permanent fix, don't do another *228 once you have this update!!

I have been without mu IPhone 4 since yesterday now as I tried to do the IOS6 update and since then it has messed up my phone and I am unable to access any of it's functions as it is locked on the update screen.
My phone was bought through Vodfone and have been on their network ever since, never had any problems like this.
It prompts me to connect to ITunes and when I do it will not go any further as stating 'No sim card is inserted in the IPhone you are trying to activate'. Well there is a sim in there and I have removed it and reinserted it on many occasions today. I recently called AT&T to have a out of contract iPhone 3GS using the IMEI #. I followed the instructions to unlock the iPhone (backup and restore), and after restore it should then be factory unlocked. BUT that's not the case, I get a message saying, There is no sim card in the iPhone you are trying to activate, Please disconnect and insert a sim card. This happens with/without a sim card, AT&T or otherwise. I have done some research and basically came up with nothing except that the phone (running iOS 5.1.1) may now be unable to read sim cards, something about the IMEI #... I'm not real sure. Any help on this would be very apreciated. Is it fixable or am I doomed?

Was the device previously hacked to be unlocked? If it was, it may now be bricked.
If no SIM card works in the device and it was not previously hacked to be unlocked, that would indicate the SIM reader has failed.

Ok, make sure you are signed in to Adobe Reader using the same Adobe ID you used to subscribe. If that doesn't help try using http://exportpdf.adobe.com/ instead.

When I restored my phone from icloud, half of my pics and videos have been deleted, the pics that were restored on my phone are very blurry, and the videos won't play. I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server". I have erased and reset my phone twice, but every time I do it, more pics and videos are deleted. I have backed up to icloud and iphoto, however, some of the pics are no longer on iphoto either. Is there someway to get the videos to play on my phone again? Make the photos not as blurry as they are now and to restore the pics and videos that have been lost? I really would love to have them back, this phone is supposed to be the best and right now it doesn't seem to be. Please help if you can.

Hello. I have a DELL Laptop with Windows 7 (64-bit). I've always installed/downloaded the newest up-to-date iTunes. Now all of the sudden, i can't install the new iTunes 10.5 (i've had this problem since the previous version of iTunes-before the 10.5) It would start the downloading process but then all of the sudden (towards the end) i get an error message saying "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." i follow the steps the error message provides me but nothing is working! I can't uninstall (to reinstall it) either! I could really use a solution for this pleaseeee!!! It's getting on my nerves!!! i really want to keep my iPhone 4 and my music with iTunes. Hello. Actually I FINALLY found a SOLUTION that works. It worked for me, I hope it works for you. Go to this website: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall click RUN NOW and follow the instructions. This "fix it" will uninstall iTunes completely! (without having to remove any other apple-related programs). Make sure when you click on iTunes you choose to UNINSTALL it. Just let the "fix it" do the rest and whatever windows pop up just ignore them. Let the process complete until the "feedback" window from the "fix it" program comes up. Then you should see the desktop shortcuts are removed, if not: try double clicking on it as if you were to open the iTunes program and a message will come up saying "this program has been changed/removed..." then click the option to erase or delete. Then go to apple.com, download iTunes 10.5 (compatible for 64-bit windows) and it should work. IT WORKED FOR ME!! I hope it works for you. Let me know :)

I am having the same problem and also updated my ipod using another comp. I tried manually deleting itunes and can deletee all of the programs except apple software update then i recieve the same message it has something to do with that program but i can't get it off of my comp. now i am stuck without any of the content for my ipod.

I have tried to just install the new version of itunes from the apple website, it looks like it downloads but after 5 minutes at the end of the install it says 'old version of itunes cannot be uninstalled, please contact support.'?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)
