HT201413 My ipod touch doesn't show up in itunes but my sisters does?

Bought an ipod touch but when I connect it to my pc it does not recognise it at all. My sisters works fine though. Done all the help tips on apple, still nothing. Help please.

I had this issue, I fixed it by going to:
Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers
Then find the iPod, and Right Click > Properties > Hardware > Properties > Driver > Update Driver > Update Automatically
The driver had not been automatically installed, and windows found and installed the driver files for me. Took ~90 seconds, and then the iPod began it's sync process almost immediately after. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue! I'd try this before re-installing iTunes.

  • IPod touch doesn't show up on iTunes

ey everyone I'm having some trouble I'm currently running windows vista and when I plug my touch into my computer it doesn't show up on iTunes? Anyone got any idea how I can fix this? I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but it didn't work , any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok people after messing up three days with my jailbroken ipod touch cauze my itunes didn't recognize it i figured out that the problem is first windows recognized it as a imaging device o as a camera, i found in the device manager was listed mi apple ipod under portable devices and there was the problem it has to be listed under universal serial bus controllers named as a apple ipod so this is what i did but first make sure u have correctly installed itunes and the apple mobile device support:
1 open the device manager or windows button + r is run and then type devmgmt.msc
2 look for the portable devices and find the apple ipod or wherever that is listed on your pc.
3 once u find the apple ipod do a right click on it and click on uptade driver software
4 take the manualy opcion or browse on my computer and then look for this folder on your computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
there should be the driver that itunes recognize and your windows wont recognize your ipod as a camera again but i repeat u have to make sure u have installed the apple mobile device support u can get it by extracting the itunes+quicktime package using winrar. so click on update or next what ever on the update process and next time itunes will open your ipod for sincying thanks to forums ilounge.com
u dont need to switch usb ports is anyone has questions about ipod touch in general or itunes please email me at [email protected] or [email protected]
there is a comunity for free sftware wich i'm on it and is for helping people i had the same problems and with itunes and the rolling back installation of the apple mobile device support so i hope u solve your problems

  • IPod Touch doesn't show up in iTunes

So I've been reading the support site and this forum for 2 days and I know this is a common problem, but I've tried everything.
    Environment:
    PC w/ Visa SP1 (Intel 975XBX Motherboard)
32GB iPod Touch (new with 1.1.4 software)
After many itunes reinstalls using all the hints about complete removal and iPod resets I always end up in the same place:
    iPod shows up under MyComputer
Driver gets installed by Vista and reported as good.
Under device manager iPod shows up under external devices.
Under device manager there is NO entry for Apple Mobile Device under the USB port section.
After a call to Apple tech support, they said it is a PC problem with the USB mass storage driver. I got new versions of BIOS and driver inf files from the Intel website for my motherboard but still get the same results.
Any hints ? Apple has pointed the finger at the PC and is no longer any help.

I have the same problem as well, my new laptop doesn't recognize my ipod touch either(16gb) though i plugged my brother's ipod shuffle on an my laptop picked it up. The only difference between my old comp (that picked up my itouch) and my laptop is that the laptop has vista and my pc has xp. The only thing i could think of doing would be redownloading the driver for my itouch to my laptop but i couln't find anything to that nature.

  • My iPod touch won't show up in iTunes, but charges and shows up on different computers.

My iPod touch 5th gen last was synced with my iMac a couple weeks ago. Now when I plug it into iTunes, it won't show up. It's done this before and I've fixed it by updating iTunes, restarting the iPod/computer etc, but it seems I've tried everything. I've connected it to different USB ports, and it charges in all of them but doesn't show up. When I plug it in, Dropbox recognizes it and can get the pictures off, but iTunes won't work. I tried connecting the iPod to a different computer, and it showed up in iTunes just fine. I have the latest version of iTunes. I didn't restore my iPod from the other computer because if I can't get it to re-sync with this computer I'd rather not lose all my data. It seems I need to reinstall iTunes, but I don't know how- will it delete all my music that I already have on there?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • My 2nd Gen iPod Touch won't show up in iTunes but does appear in My Computer

When I connect my 2nd Generation iPod touch to my laptop it will not appear in iTunes. It does, however, appear in my Computer.
I have worked through all of the troubleshooting guides on the Apple Support section, and have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice.
This message appears every time I plug my iPod in, and frequently whilst it is still plugged in charging:
'MobileMe Service has stopped working.' This is a pop-up window produced by Windows, I know this is the 'service' that picks up an iPod's prescence but stopping and restarting the service does nothing. My iPod still won't show up.
Please help, I am willing to faff around a bit. Might it be a problem with Windows itself? If so, how would I go about fixing it?
    Thanks in advance,
P.S I have the latest version of iTunes, and the operating system of my iPod is 4.2.1.
My version of Windows Vista is 32-bit.

I have the same problem with my 2nd gen itouch.
I've tried other computer and my childrens iPods work on my computer so not a windows problem.  I've tried reinstalling iTunes and resetting itouch as per apple support pages but nothing, it doesn't even show on my computer. Any help greatly appreciated :-)

uninstalled, reinstalled - didn't fix.  Any ideas?

    Have you tried everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Try on another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
The old iPod are still compatible with the recent OSXs and iTunes versions.

my i pad shows connect to itunes but my computer does not recognise the devise -- it was ok until i tried to do a software update

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • After hard drive replacement iPod Touch doesn't show up in Devices menu

I know this is an often-encountered problem, but I am tired of searching... I had to replace the hard drive on my MacBook after 14 months of service (that's another topic of discussion), I want to now sync my info on the iPod Touch with my computer, especially Address Book and iCal, but it doesn't show up in the Devices list. I have tried holding the Shift + Control keys on opening iTunes to no avail. What can I do?

Sorry, this is stupid, but I just reinstalled iTunes and it worked! Don't ask me why. I deleted the iTunes app that the guy at the store had installed, downloaded a new app and reinstalled it and it worked. Even while installing it my iPod Touch beeped and as soon as iTunes was installed it showed up in Devices. I synced the iPod with iTunes, making sure to fusion the data rather than replace the iPod data with the Mac Library. It took awhile because I have almost 3000 entries in my Contacts, but the Address Book was filled up along with iCal, so I am up and running again. Whew! I must add that I had updated the existing iTunes to the latest version, but that had not worked, so you have to completely reinstall. Now, on with the discussion of how a hard drive in a 1 year old MacBook could break and lose all its data...
