HT201413 "telnet" is not a recognized command in Windows 7.....?????

I'm trying to troubleshoot why home sharing isn't working on my network, and these steps call for using telnet command to test for proper open ports. I get a message from windows 7 that telnet is not a command. What gives??

Windows 7 may need telnet installed, as mentioned in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771275(v=ws.10).aspx
I think 11222 is actually support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. Is that what you see?
I'm guessing you have one of the programs listed there and updating it may resolve.
Tricky bit is some software is bundled with other software - like RealPlayer Plus bundles Speedbit.
I hope that helps.

  • HT201413 how do i test a port on my windows 7 computer? i followed the steps in this article, but the command prompt said that "telnet" is not a valid command.

So I havent been able to connect to the iTunes store since June. It's getting a tad annoying. I followed all of the troubleshooting steps that i could find, and I am currently on the last one, which involves making sure that the ports that iTunes needs to function are open on my computer. I followed the article that was telling me how to do this, found my ip address, and was on the step where you actually check the port. I was told to use the command telnet, but when i did, the command prompt told me that " 'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file." So, I seem to be stuck. If someone could enlighten me on how to actually check if a port is open, or how to fix error code 11222, please let me know.

  • Ipod not being recognized...Windows XP Mass Storage Problem

I'm like many of you who installed the new Itunes 7 and is having the same connection problems. My 30g video Ipod will not be recognized on my laptop and itunes. I believe my usb cord is working properly because when I connect my ipod into the laptop it charges.
I've tried everything that was said on this forum: the five r's, disk mode, updating drivers, etc.
But I was wondering: I have the iCarPlay FM Transmitter Has anyone noticed, that when they connect their ipod into it, a error pops up on the screen: "USB Connection and Firmwire are not compatible"...something along that line. And now when I connect my ipod, the sound is absoultely terrible! It only comes out of one speaker in my car. My friend owns an ipod nano and hers works perfectly with my transmitter.
Now my other question: I don't see my ipod in the device manager...but I do see is Mass Storage Controller highlighted with a big yellow exclamtion triangle. I click on it and try to install from the ipod cd and nothing happens, I can't even uninstall it. Do you think that's my ipod not working?
Also, I've tried connecting my ipod to my two computer desktops and it's not recognized either and I also tried connecting my ipod to my sister's Mac computer and nothing happens.
Any other suggestions to help my ipod? When the heck is Apple going to respond with a new update?
I should of just bought the Zune instead of the iPod!

Follow the instructions in this link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if there are no updates available, follow the instructions to reload your USB driver. After that, go into Device Manager, right click on your iPod and reformat it (FAT32). After this go into iTunes and Restore your iPod.
"I should of just bought the Zune instead of the iPod!"
I know you are frustrated, but statements like this don't exactly motivate others here to help you. And if you think that would solve your problem, go to the Zune discussion groups.

  • JavaC  is not a recognized command

I just recently installed the Java 2 sdk Version 1.3.1_09 on my computer (Running WINXP). The Javasoft program is found in C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_09. I see a bin and lib subfolder. So I assume my installation went through without any problems...
When I run the JavaC HellowWorld.java (for example) from my C:\Java prompt line in DOS, I get:
'JAVAC' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
How do I get this tweaked and ready to work???

I just recently installed the Java 2 sdk Version
1.3.1_09 on my computer (Running WINXP). The Javasoft
    program is found in C:\Program
    Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_09. I see a bin and lib
subfolder. So I assume my installation went through
without any problems... If you installed J2SDK, then you should have a directory like c:\j2sdk1.3.1_09\bin and inside it should be javac.exe. The JRE is just the Java runtime so the JRE bin directory does not have javac.exe. You can use the Windows search function to find javac.exe. Perhaps you downloaded the JRE instead of the J2SDK.

  • 3rd gen iPod nano is not correctly recognized on new Windows 7 iTunes

Moved my iTunes library from old PC to new Win7 PC via direct iTunes folder copy.
    Looked ok
but when I connect my 3rd Gen Nanos, I get dire warnings that I have to authorize new PC with my son's AppleID not mine (was originally his iPod but long since factory reset and reloaded) or else iTunes will delete purchased songs. (The new PC is authorized for my Apple Id).
I have 2 of these iPods and the other one was never my son's so I don't know why it also thinks it needs his id.
When we check my son's account and look at devices, the iPods are not listed. (maybe only newer iOS devices are listed?) So I can't "remove" the iPods from that account via the iTunes Store account profile.
yes, I have tried reinstalling iTunes and wiping the registry - no luck.  If I "cancel" when the dire warnings come up instead of authorizing using my son's account, then the iPod is not recognized at all by iTunes (does appear as external drive in Windows) and I have to reinstall .... again.
    My questions are:
    1) do the old iPods themselves some how store the original Apple ID they were associated with?
    2) If so, how can I reset to use my Apple ID?
        Will "factory reset" work?
What I don't want is to reset and then find out I can't reload using current iTunes library associated with current Apple ID
    3)  I don't think this will solve the problem but: in iTunes, can I separately sign in  with both IDs and authorize the computer with both IDs? Can a single instance/install/library of iTunes use 2 different AppleIDs? (there are not 2 users on this PC - just 1. So just 1 iTunes instance, just 1 library)
    More details:
    I tried:
If I authorize the new PC for my son's account which the ipod and Itunes seems to want, then when the iPods are connected, all the song's listed in the library in main/right pane are greyed out and can't be selected.  I don't recall this being a problem on the old PC so something seems wrong.
    I am concerned that:
If I give up and authorize this PC for both Apple Id's,  then what?  If I buy something new from iTunes (using, can I sync it to the iPod?

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • Nano not being recognized in iTunes (Windows)

    Hi there
I'll try and be brief, but this is a weird one.
    My iTunes is not recognizing my Nano all of a sudden. Have been using it for last 4 months with no problems. Here's what I have done so far;
    1. Updated to latest version of iTunes
    2. Restored Nano using latest iPod updater software.
    3. Restarted computer
    4. USB Cable is fine, as the Nano is plugged into hard drive and is charging
    5. No error messages have come up at any stage - it's just not showing up in my iTunes
I'd be grateful if someone could suggest anything - it's just that now I've restored it, I have no songs, even though they're all backed up. I'd prefer not to have it serviced (this would be the 6th time i would have sent an Apple product for service), as I am going on holiday next week and would like to take it with me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi again
Just to throw another piece of info in there, whenever I plug in my Nano to the USB, iTunes does still open automatically... there's just no sign of it in the list.

  • TS1567 iPhone not being recognized by Windows 8 or iTunes

My iPhone is not being recognized by my Windows 8 laptop, or itunes. I have used the original cable and a new one. Both cause the computer to ding when the phone connects, but i cant find the phone ANYWHERE. I have stopped and restarted the Apple Mobile Support Service. And restarted my laptop.

All needed drivers are installed when you install iTunes and QuickTime. Try to reinstall the Apple software again, as explained in this article:

  • 'Telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command

    I am using Win 7 Enterprise SP1.
I have "Telnet Client" checked in the Control Panel - Programs - Turn Windows features on or off.
But, when I try to do Telnet it still says 'Telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command.
The weird thing is this used to work on the same machine, and it just stops working today.
I unchecked  "Telnet Client" , then re-check it back, and reboot my machine, but still getting the error.
On the command prompt, I tried pkgmgr /iu:"TelnetClient" , but it gave me the error "Operation failed with 0x8007000B. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format."

    Hi,
    I agree with Balaji Kundalam.
In addition, I would like to suggest you try to activate Telnet by other ways to see if it works.

If the issue still occurs after you tried all the steps.
I understand that some files cannot be repaired when running SFC /scannow, I suggest trying the following method to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. At an elevated command prompt, copy and then paste (or type) the following command, and then press ENTER:
    takeown /f c:\windows\system32\telnet.exe
    2. Copy and paste (or type) the following command, and then press ENTER to grant administrators full access to the file:
    icacls c:\windows\system32\telnet.exe  /GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:F
    3. Copy and paste (or type the following command to replace the file with a known good copy of the file:
    Copy c:\windows\system32\telnet.exe _Of_Source_File  c:\windows\system32\telnet.exe _Of_Destination

  • Telnet portlet not returning info to user, but receiving commands

    Hello,
We are having some problems receiving data from the server in the telnet portlet. When a command is issued such as 'ls', nothing is returned to the user. The command is being received by the server because when you create a file and then check to see if the create file command was run, you will see a new file created. So the problem seems to be that the portlet is not able to read the info sent by the server.
When you reload the portal page you get null errors returned in the portlet.
In Mozilla the following browser error appears - document.cmdForm.userText has no properties.
In IE the following browser error appears - document.cmdForm.userText is null or not an object.
Has anyone had this same problem? Any insight on how to fix this???
    Thanks in advance,
    julia.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem.
Did anyone ever find a solution?
The telnet portlet logs me in and I am able to run commands but cannot see any output from the portlet. For example if I create a directory via the telnet portlet and check on the server terminal I can see it has been created, but if I do an ls command via the portlet nothing is displayed on screen.
The portlet was installed on 9ias v9.0.2.0.3, PDK v9.0.2.6.2 and Solaris 5.8

  • Hard Drive not being recognized on my Graphite Clamshell

I have a challenge for anyone. I have a ibook 366(clamshell) that is not recognizing the hd. It was working wonderfully one night I shut it down and the next day I get the flashing question mark. I've tried all of the normal stuff: zap pram, reset nvram tried to use command and s but it didn't go to the programmers screen and all the such. I can boot from a cd but none of the utilities see the hd. I have taken the hd out and connected it to a usb to ide cable that allows me to use it as an external drive and it is recognized without any problem on all of the other macs I connect it to and even on a pc (I know I said the bad word.)Does anyone have any clue what could be the issue. Every thing else seems to work fine. Just the hd is not being recognized. I even put in a different hd. I even formatted the drive using one of my macs that I only have 9.2.2 on and installed a os on it and it still didn't work. The hard drive worked fine and the os with all of its components seemed to be fine. I know it's an older system but it's something that I can let the kids play on and not be concerned with losing any of my files.
    I appreciate any help
    iBook 366 Graphite

Duane, Thanks for your reply. Is there any way to test this? I am going to try to see if any of the utility disks can recognize the hd. I've tried DW 4.0, the Utility Disks on OS 9, X. I've even tried FWB and a few other tools.

  • Ipad not being recognized on my Mac laptop

My Ipad Mini, (just purchased today) is not being recognized on my Mac computer under Devices in the Finder.  We also bought a IPod Shuffle and it is recognized.  I followed another person's advice from this forum and reloaded the Ipad, but it is still not recognized.  I want to move some Epub books to my Ipad, but cannot do this since it's not recognized.  I downloaded the Bluefire Reader as was suggested in the forum, but, again, the Ipad is not recognized on my laptop in order to move the books.

It won't appear in Finder, it's not designed to mount as a drive, content is synced via your Mac's iTunes. If it's not being recognised in your Mac's iTunes then there is some troubleshooting on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
You should be able to copy books to that app by connecting the iPad to your Mac and selecting it on the left-hand sidebar of your Mac's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 then option-command-S should get the sidebar to appear), and then on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen selecting the Apps tab and scrolling down it to the file sharing section : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094
If you've already directly downloaded some apps or other content onto the iPad then you may also find this page useful for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • Acomdata 500gb External FW Drive NOT BEING RECOGNIZED!!!

I have been running an Acomdata 500gb FW External Hard Drive for my data intensive applications such as FCP and it has been working flawlessly for about the last year...
Yesterday I powered up the Mac and turned on the drive along with my external USB drive and the Acomdata drive turns on, lights up, and makes noise like it's working, but it is not being recognized at all by the Mac. I tried unplugging it, switching out the FW cord, changing the FW slot it was being plugged into, and everything else of that nature that I could think of. Of course the USB drive that has non-important work related stuff works just fine :/
So I'm wondering, does anyone think the drive has officially crapped out? It turns on and works so I can't tell. I'm PRAYING this is not the case, but I didn't know if there were any possible FW configuration settings that could have been changed or something like that. Any ideas?

Did you recently update to 10.4.10? Is there another computer that you can plug the external into to see if it's recognized? Have you tried plugging another FW peripheral into your main computer to see if it recognizes it?
Some people have had good results from the following:
    1. Downloading and installing the combo updater of the system software update they've just applied via "Software Update...". In your case the update you need is at:
    10.4.10 combo updater
    2. Another trick is to restart each by zapping the parameter RAM:
    Zapping the P-RAM:
After the startup tone, hold down <commandd><option><r> until 3 additional startup tones are heard, then release the 4 keys.
    3. A 3rd tip would be to do Open Firmware resets on each:
After the startup tone, hold down <command><option><o><f> until the text screen is visible. When text can be entered, type the following commands, followed by the <return> key (there are no space characters in each command):
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
reset-all (the Mac will boot up after this command is entered).
Also, see if anything in this Apple KB article helps:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88338
    Please post back with results,
    Miriam
