HT201436 Randomly, people on phone can't hear me and I need to put them on speaker..???

The listener when using my phone is not always able to hear me and I have to put them on speaker. It is random. Also, this may be connected, the voice option to text no longer works . At times when texting and I press the microphone by mistake, it seems that after that, the person to whom I speak to next on the phone, will not be able to hear me ( haven't tested it repeatedly to see if related). Then, maybe the next person on the phone can hear me fine when I speak into phone..???

Totally understand about being intimidated, but hopefully I can help. I would go through the following troubleshooting steps and see if that resolves the issue:
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (choose Settings > General > Bluetooth).
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.

Usually issues that have to do with Call audio, dropped calls etc, need to have the SIM Card/service ruled out first.
Take the SIM card out of your phone and put it in another to see if issue persists. If it does then its something with your location/service and you need to contact your service provider.
If it does not persist in the other phone then you will want to do a reset and then a restore if issue persists.

Also a simple phone restart will fix 9/10 issues like that.

Does hte iPhone say headphones when you adjust the volume, even when they aren't connected?

The lower mic is faulty, either due to logic board fault or lower mic itself fault. If lower mic itself, the replacement part is iPhone charging port assembly with flex cable, lower mic, and home button flex connector all a less than $10 single part. There might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there. Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

Any help. Just about ready to return phone.

First try inserting and removing the earphone plug several times. Sometimes lint gets in through the jack and prevents the contacts from closing when you remove the plug.
Next step would be a Reset if that doesn't fix it; hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for about 8 seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the "slide to power off" display and keep holding).
After that a Restore through iTunes. If all of these don't fix it take it back for replacement.

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?

Did you use the latest backup after setting it up "as new device"? If yes, try again, this time without using the backup, maybe it contains damaged data causing your problem.
If this does not bring any change, you should get it serviced.

Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings
then when you start again, set it up as a new phone

well then you probably have a microphone problem (Siri uses the 2 or 3 different microphones built in the iPhone to analyse the sound and get the best sound possible. you probably got dirt in one of them. I suggest bringing it to a repair man (or phone Apple support if you can't find any ADVISABLE repair shop) and tell him what i told you.
