The Help page you came here from gives you all the information; without the previous owner's password or his removing the phone from his list of devices you cannot proceed and I'm afraid your phone is useless.

I restored my iphone 4 and as I was about to activate it - it required my apple id and password. I can see that it is my apple id - so i entered the data. However I keep on receiving a message saying [ "my e-mail" cannot be used to unlock this iPhone.]
I then checked if the phone is still on the list of my devices in "Find My Phone" - via icloud.com website. The phone that I was trying to activate was not there.
I cannot seem to get this right - please let me know - if you know the solution.I guess that the only problem is, that the iphone is already connected / related (or whatever... I´m german) to an apple ID. and if he could go in the ITUNES account, he/they could get rid of that by DISCONNECTING

When I open my account in itunes, it says to click on devices under itunes, well there are no devices listed under itunes, all my Apps and Music and Contacts are there, but i can;t download anything. Thanks

My iPhone has just been replaced and I am trying to restore from iCloud but its saying no backups are compatible with the version of IOS 6.0.1. My back iOS are IOS 6.1. Can you update the phone first then restore?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, update first, Settings > General > Software Update.
Then navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from. -
if someone stole your ipod and deleted your apple id from icloud and u don't know the serial number. What can u do?
To delete your iCloud account from Settings>iCloud they have to enter your ID password.
The can place the iPod in Recovery mode and they restore the iPod but they will have to enter your iCloud ID and PW to activate the iPod.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.

When you buy an iPhone in the U.S. it's locked to that country with the carrier you bought it for.
If you bought the device unlocked in the U.S. it's unlocked, you can use it on any carrier. Even one's outside the country.
If you want to do a repair on a device you bought in the U.S. and your using it in another country, you must send it back to the U.S. Why? That's where you bought it from.
AppleCare Protection Plans and AppleCare Limited Warranties are registered to your hardware.
Your hardware is your iPhone.
Wherever hardware that was bought then that's the country it was designed to be used in and that's where it was manufactured.
Apple is very localized - if you call U.S. tech support, you'll speak to somone in your country.
So, what does all this mean?
In order to do a repair, you need to send it back to the country you got it from.
And we're all customers like you. We understand that you're upset, but Apple isn't gonna bend the rules to one individual.

Thank you for your suggestion. I backup on itunes. I went to itunes, deleted syncing my contacts, then re-synced them. But the Facetime capability option continues to be there on most (not all, for some curious reason) of my contacts. I am not sure I posed my question correctly. I want to be able to FT with my family, so don't want to delete the FT capability totally from my iphone and ipad. But I don't want all these other iphone calls from various contacts to ring on my ipad as FT calls. I want a way to select with whom I have FT capabilities. Any further suggestions? Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud, but the mac app store says its already installed and won't let me upgrade. when I check the version of pages I am running it says 4.3. I just want to be able to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad. How can i get Pages 5.0?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got Pages 5.0, but you still have got Pages 4.3, so Pages 4.3 is being opened instead of the newest version, being this the reason why you get a message telling you to update Pages to the most recent version.
If you don't need the old version, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete the old Pages icon or move it to an external drive. I don't recommend you to do this, as users are complaining about the lack of features of the new version.
Instead, what you can do is to put the new Pages icon in the Dock by dragging it from the Finder window to the Dock, so you can open the new Pages version from the Dock and you can open all your documents with it after opening the application -

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

I have recieved a locked phone from US. At& T confirmed tht the same could be unlocked and had suggested the procedure of 'back up and restotre to unlock the phone, which was done. After this when I removed the old simcard, the iphone cannot be activated
When you connected to iTunes and restored, did you get the
'Congratulations. Your iPhone is now unlocked' message?
If not, first try again. Follow the procedure in the email
AT&T sent you exactly - do not skip steps. If still no success,
contact AT&T as the problem is on their end.
Do you have a sim in the iPhone when trying to activate it?
You must put a sim into the iPhone for activation to compllete. -
If I have 500+ songs that are on my iPhone and I change the Apple ID in setting will I lose my songs that are on my phone (not icloud)
