We got this Iphone 4 from one of my friends that moved out of state. He said he was going to restore the phone us to, but now when we tried to activate it. It said that is was still under his itunes account. I have no contact with him now because he didnt give me his new contact information. How do we reset it and change the itunes account to mine so i can activate the phone.
You can't. Only your friend can at this point. Your phone is basically useless to you.

Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Begin the device setup process.After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process. -

hello there peeps, i cant use the iphone that i bought from a local buy, swap and sell site. the phone was restored to factory setting and i used it for 4 months but after that a message appeared and said that this phone has been lost. i tried to restore it again but i need the previous owner's apple id and password.
i tried to contact him but i cannot reach him already, i tried reaching him on the sell site's page but still no response. i am pretty sure that the phone is not stolen coz i was present when he restore it to its factory setting. i just wanna ask you people what else can i do with it to be activated again, i paid $200 for this iphone 4 and dont just want it to go down to the drain. The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required
If you do not have that information you will not be able to use the Device.

Part of "lost mode" is a prompt to add a message with contact information. If its owner did that, when the iPhone is turned on a message similar to the following will be displayed:
If its owner did not include any contact information, presumably he or she doesn't want to be contacted. -

Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone. -

Not sure. It may also have never been reported to AT&T as stolen.
It won't really matter. The hardware ID of the phone is associated with the Apple ID and password of the person who originally activated it. That is association is stored on Apple's activation servers and only the original owner can remove the association as discussed in the article you were reading. Until that happens, the activation server will not reactivate the phone without the proper Apple ID and password being entered. -

If you mean activating it as far as using it on your phone plan, then you're going to have to go to your cell provider and have them do that for you and add the device to your current plan. Otherwise without activating it, the most your iPhone will be, is a thick iPod. Of course with wifi, you could still send iMessages, but that's the extent without adding it to a cell plan.

I would suggest that you buy a visa or mastercard gift card and put a few dollars on it and use it to access the store. Just add money to it before you want to buy something from the store and it will act like a normal credit card for you.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

The other day I bought an ipad with the new ios software on and it was in recovery mode, I took ot to the police on the day as I thought it was stolen, the police returned it to me today as it was legit but I cannot restore it and I have no way of finding out the owner?
