HT201456 Mac Mini OS X 10.10.1 VMware Fusion Bootcamp 5.1 driver

I have a mac mini 5.2 with OS X 10.10.1 and VMWare Fusion 7.01 (no BootCamp Mac OS / Windows dual boot, the Mac Mini boot only OS X !!) and run multiple virtual windows machines on it.
If I want to mount a CD into a virtual Windows 8.1machine,  I get the message that I need to install the Bootcamp dirver in this virtual machine.
I created a USB Stick with Bootcamp 5.1 drivers and want to install these drivers in Windows 8.1 virtual machine, I get the message that this Version of BootCamp can't run on this computer modell.
Has any one experience with bootcamp drivers for Windows 8.1 in VMware Fusion environments ??

Hello Loner T,
thanks for yor reply, install only AppleODDInstaller64.exe solved the problem. I had just to remove before any parts of older bootcamp driver. Interestingly, if I try to install the  complete bootcamp driver packet with setup.exe  BootCamp directory, I get the same message, that this Version of BootCamp can't run on this computer modell.
But anyway, the AppleODDInstaller64driver solves my CD/DVD mount problem.
regards Uwe

On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7pm bootcamp without an optical drive.  I watch lots of football on sop cast and other such windows based programmes but can't work out how to do it.

Actually Windows can be installed and booted from an external drive if the drive is connected eSATA (external SATA), since the drive is treated as if it's an internal HDD. I used the same method previously to dual-boot from 2 different HDD instead of partitioning.
Most PC motherboards come with them as standard so it's pretty much plug and play but I don't recall seeing a recent Mac with eSATA connectivity though, so that might not be an option for you.

  • Mac Mini will read from but not write to external CD/DVD drive

My new Mac Mini won't write CDs or DVDs to my LaCie DVDRW external drive, either in iTunes or through the finder. The computer appears to be writing the disc and then there's an error message right at the end of the process that says it can't access the drive (error code 0x80020020). In reading the help materials, I came across something that said iTunes would only write to an internal drive or a Mac superdrive. That's really no help to me since the Mini did not come with an internal drive. Surely Apple can't be saying I have to go out an buy a new drive for this machine. Has anyone else had this problem?

You did not answer the question of whether or not the drive works when connected to another Mac or a PC? This is a critical question.

  • New Mac mini Arrived, how do I transfer files from my external FW drive?

I noticed my brand new Mac Mini seems to have a different firewire port than I'm used to seeing on my old G4 Dual 1GHz PowerPc.I was hoping to hook up my external Lacie drive to the Mini to transfer my files. Is it a different connector and is there an adapter for the Mini, or am I out of luck?
    Rskover

It is firewire 800. You can get a firewire 400 to 800 cable or adaptor, or you can use the USB port if your external hard drive have that option. I did a google search and got some information on the firewire 400 to 800 products.

  • New mac mini won't accept dvd's/cd's in the combo drive

    Hello friends:
i have a new mac mini that I bought about 2 months ago (Intel, 2.0 ghz). Everything was working fine until I went to put in a DVD today. The combo drive won't accept a disc. It's not that it won't read the disc, it physically won't suck it into the drive. Instead it just sits there. If I try and push it in, nothing happens... it just bounces back out at me as if pushed by a spring. And, no, there isn't already a disc in the drive.
Can anyone suggest how to get my combo drive to work again?

    Hi jrm27,
I have an older Mac Mini 1.66 GHz, but I haven't seen this problem.
I take it that the disc does go in a little way. I would think that that rules out that the drive thinks there's a CD already in the drive. I know that when I have a CD or DVD in the drive, the little doors (they're really there) are closed and won't let me insert a 2nd CD.
I presume that you have restarted your system since this started to occur?
When the system is rebooting, hold down the mouse button. This is supposed to force eject a CD. It might also trick your system into thinking there's no CD there, or resetting something.
Try different types of CDs or DVDs, just to make sure that there's not something screwy with the media that you are using. Try an old-fashioned music CD or something.
Are there any sounds the drive makes?

  • I recently purchased a Mac mini with the Yosemite operating system, but I cannot find a driver that works for a canon MP 450 all in one printer.

I need a driver for a Canon MP 450 all in one printer to be used with a Mac mini with the Yosemite operating system.
Canon does not have a driver. Third party providers drivers do not work with "Yosemite."
    Any suggestions?

  • I have a 2004 Mac Mini. Can I convert it to just a a storage drive?

I now have a Mac Book Pro and i want to use my old Mac Mini as a storage device. Has anyone done this?

It is doable, boot the machine holding the T key.  Note it won't be able to boot both the MacBook Pro and itself if you start putting operating system on the Mac Mini to be used.  So if you still desire access to older applications, it probably is best if you did file sharing between the two machines.   Firewire 9 to 6 pin cables let you hook up the newer firewire to the older one.

  • I have a brand new Mac Mini (July 2014) with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB hard drive and I typed in my screen saver password today and it froze up.  Had to push the power switch and restart the computer.  Why, and what can I do to prevent this?

It shouldn't crash just because I type in my screen saver password.  But it did.  I had to push the power button to shut it down and turn it back on.

Freezes happen occasionally. Hard to pinpoint a cause. I wouldn't let it worry you as they are rare. If this happens often then post back as there may be something wrong.

  • Will Mac Mini with OSX Server 10.6 Snow Leopard be able to fit my needs?

    Hello,
The office i work in is a Mac environment.
Is this unit powerful enough to support 20 people? This is the setup i was thinking:
Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server - 2.66GHz : Dual 500GB:
1st Internal drive - OS only
2nd Internal drive - OS backup via CarbonCopyCloner
Ministack USB drive - Data backup via Time Machine (file shares etc on server from services)
Firewire DroboPro 16TB - Client Time Machine Backups via the Network.
Would the Mac Mini be powerfull enough to support normal OS X Server services, and at the same time act as a client Time-Machine backup via the network?
    Thanks,
    -Mike

The answer to your question depends on how many of the services you intend to offer.
If you are just going to use the Mini as a File, Print, and directory server, then it will work fine.
If you intend it to run as your web, email, database, and iChat server, you might be pushing things a bit much.
Your drive layout looks appropriate for a simple file server, so I would tentatively say yes, it looks like it would do what you currently require.

  • Target Display Mode iMac 27 mid 2011 with Mac Mini 2011 bootcamp

    Hello,
I can't seem to use Target Display Mode with Bootcamp.
    My configuration:
    Imac 27" mid 2011 with osx 10.8.4
Mac Mini Server 2011 with osx 10.8.4, bootcamp 5 and Windows7
Both are connected via Apple genuine Thunderbolt cable (2m).
When I boot the Mac Mini into OSX then Target Display Mode works perfectly and I can see the osx installed on the Mac Mini on the iMac display.
However, when I reboot the Mac Mini into Bootcamp (windows7 x64) I can't put the iMac in Targt Display Mode and get to see Windows 7 on my iMac screen.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3924#8
The following article says that this should work, however once I reboot osx on the Mac Mini the iMac leaves Target Display Mode immediatly and will not return to Target Display Mode.
Any advice? I contacted Apple Support and a Sr. Enginner said it should be supported and he's checking with a higher tier.
    Thanks

    Yes, it does.

  • Mac Mini struggling to copy/rip some older audio CDs

    Hello,
I have a 2012 Mac Mini, 2.6Ghz Quad-Core i7, 1TB Fusion Drive and 16GB of Crucial memory. Some months back I made a decision to re-rip my CD library as Apple Lossless, for streaming to the Apple TV connected to my receiver. I started with my newest CDs and worked backwards, but when I got down to the oldest of my CDs there were some (but not all) that the Mini struggled to rip cleanly or at all. With those troublesome discs, the results varied. Some discs would simply flat-out fail to rip or even copy to the desktop directly from the disc. Others would struggle to rip or copy but appear to succeed, only for the tracks to be riddled with millisecond audio drop-outs (this is actually more of a hassle, as it requires manually proofing every track for flaws). What's really bizarre is that even a directly copied file from disc to desktop would suffer the same audio drop-outs, even though it's a digital file going through no conversion and should be identical in every way.
So the logical conclusion would be that these discs have just gone bad due to age; but there-in lies the catch. Not only do the discs play without issue in other CD players, but I was able to successfully copy the same CDs on three other Macs (even using the same external optical drive in one case) successfully. The disc I ripped yesterday on my Mac Mini whose tracks were full of audio drop-outs now sounds flawless when ripped on my Mac Pro at work.
Obviously I have a workaround for getting these discs loaded - rip them on another computer - but now my bigger concern is what on earth if wrong with my Mac Mini? Is it a hardware issue? Something with the USB ports? Or the Fusion drive? The Operating System? Does anyone have any suggestions to try prior to me making a second backup of all my data and dragging it to the Genius Bar? Thanks.

    I have both:
    - an internal slot-loading drive in my mini, like you, and
    - an external USB-connected 5.25" mains-powered tray-loading drive.  A "proper" drive!
I too have problems sometimes reading/writing with the internal.  I've always assumed they have to make LOTS of compromises and shortcuts with the design and specification of the slim, low-powered internal drives, which are really intended for laptop/battery use- and always failing, as reading threads here will show.
I suggest you beg/borrow/buy a "real" external like mine for your old-CD rips. They're not expensive, and you can always sell it on when you've ripped your CD collection.

Alternatively, these days, you might have to buy an enclosure and drive separately and combine them, or get a used one off eBay.

  • Mac mini shut down when start

    Hi all,
My Mac mini doesn't want to start anymore ... I have run the Apple Hardware Test from the CD and all seems ok (all test are ok) but when I try to start on the hard drive, the mac mini suddenly shut down
Where it can comes from ? hard drive failure ? how can I diagnostic the issue ?
I am afraid to reinstall Mac OS X from the CD because I don't want to lose my date :[
Thanks in advance for your help and advices

    Hi,
my Mini has been also suddenly shutting down. Power light goes off. Not at start-up. First it lasts longer, but gradually, as I restart it, it gradually takes less and less time to suddenly shut down. Or yesterday, for example, I tryied starting it up and not touching it. It lasted for hours. Thought it was cured. Then I popped a CD in and opened iTunes. Didn't take to long before it was shutting down all of a sudden. It would seem not to be able to take any activity. Here is a Console Message I run a few days ago:

  • I currently have a MAC Mini, which has 1 Firewire 800 port.  I have a 1TB external hard disk that runs at Firewire 400.  Can I insert another external hard drive that runs at Firewire 800?

Here's the deal.  Currently running SL 10.6.8 on a MAC Mini.  Planning for eventual upgrade to ML.  Have a 1TB external hard drive partitioned into two volumes, one volume for Time Machine and one volume for SL which I periodically update using Superduper.  Thus I always have a point-in-time bootable backup on the external hard drive.
The MAC Mini supports Firewire 800.  However, booting from my current external hard disk is pretty slow, since it only supports Firewire 400.  I am considering buying an Iomega MiniMax which supports Firewire 800.  Then, I would use the MiniMax as my bootable backup volume, and relegate the older hard drive to Time Machine.
So, question #1 is, can I daisychain the new MiniMax between the MAC Mini and my existing external hard drive?  My expectation is that the new Mini Max would run using Firewire 800 and that the existing hard drive would run at Firewire 400 speed as it does today.  If it doesn't (e.g., daisychaining in the Firewire 400 external disk with the MiniMax Firewire 800 external disk ends up running the whole leg at 400), my resolution will be to run the existing hard disk off an available USB port and have just the MiniMax running at Firewire 800.
Why am I going to all this trouble?  That's question #2.  I don't trust upgrades; they always break something.  When I upgraded from 10.5.x to 10.6.x, the web directories got renamed, and all of my web apps 403'd until I figured out what happened.  Plus, I have accounts for other family members, and in order to ensure their ability to use the computer during my upgrade process, I need to have the ability to fall-back quickly to a known-stable version of OSX.  So what I'm trying to do is insulate myself from problems by partitioning the MiniMax into two volumes, taking a Superduper image of my current installation on the Mac Mini to MiniMax external drive volume 1, then upgrading to ML on the MAC Mini, and take a SuperDuper image of that to MiniMax external drive volume 2.  Then, if the upgrade results in problems I can't resolve immediately, I can simply reimage the MAC Mini from MiniMax volume 1.  BUT ...
... I've read that the ML installation creates a "service and support" partition that is different than the startup disk.  I'm concerned that I won't be able to reimage the hard disk in the MAC Mini once I upgrade it to ML because of the partitioning changes it introduces on the startup disk.  Theoretically, I +should+ be able to use the disk utility on my SL system to repartition the disk in the MAC Mini prior to reimaging it from my backup, but I'm considering the possibility that the new partition may be of a type that the SL disk utility cannot identify, and might therefore be unable to delete or even detect.  So I'm hoping someone else has been down this road and can advise me.  Even at Firewire 800 speeds, booting from an external disk is still going to be slow, so I want to be able to restore my SL image to the MAC Mini hard disk.
A little background on me.  I work for a major disaster recovery provider.  I used to have a Mac PRO G5, which I got used, and the first thing I did with it was install a second hard disk, SuperDupe an image from the first disk to the second, and made sure I could boot from the second.  THEN I started using and customizing the MAC.  I really feel vulnerable with the MAC Mini, since it only has the single internal hard drive - sort of like going out in public dressed only in a long T-shirt.  So my whole thing is, I ABSOLUTELY MUST BE ABLE TO PUT THINGS BACK THE WAY THEY WERE before I do the migration to ML.
Obsessive-cumpulsive?  Yep.  Anal?  You got it.  That's why I'm in the DR business.

  • Using a Mac Mini with my Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro and a Mac Mini, but only one monitor and one keyboard. Can I hook up the Mac Mini so it will appear on the monitor (like another hard drive) when I am using the Mac Pro? I would like to use the Mac Mini strictly as a storage device and be able to drag files from the Mac Pro to the Mac Mini.

Put the Mac Mini in Target Disk Mode (start while holding "T") and connect it to the Mac Pro with a FireWire cable. If you want it to always start in Target Disk Mode:
