Hi how do you do a lowercase letter x with a - on top of it? please

I'm afraid not, that's not what the JPanel was designed for. You can do drag and drop with a JPanel, I'm doing it in my application, but it won't give you window behavior which is what you're after, and what the JInternalFrame was designed to do. Here's a brief sample.

}The conversion shouldn't be that complicated, and in any case you'll spend less time doing that than you would trying to make a JPanel do what you want.
