MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3)  <  your profile
You can only reintsall apps on Lion v10.7 using Lion Recovery
That reinstalls the Mac OS X as well as iTunes.

  • Cannot delete iTunes - required by Mac OSX?

Hi I am trying to rid my MacBook Pro of this beastly program known as iTunes 11.  I cant take it anymore.  I havent been able to get ahold of my external hard drive.  I have one, I've tried desperately for weeks to get to it & I cannot.  But I cant deal with iTunes 11 anymore either.  It is THAT bad.  I have everything I can think of that I cant stand to lose loaded to my phone and I guess I will just have to go and risk it.  Anything to try to install a different iTunes.  (you apparently cannot have more than one version on one system)
So what i tried to do was drag this piece of garbage to the trash, but I get the error message that iTunes cannot be trashed!  That its required by Mac OSX.  So that being there, I also cannot reinstall a different version of iTunes.
I'm in total purgatory here!   This is so unsat!!!  This is like....the most unfair thing ever.  I have never wanted to return to Windows more than I do right now.
And I had never wanted to return to Windows ever before they began all of this behavior.   Never thought it possible.  God forbid.  So here i am.  Cannot use it, cannot get rid of it.  Cannot replace it.  Could somebody please advise?   I would like it if that somebody could be one who doesnt feel the need to say mean things.  Been happening a bit around here lately.
Appreciate all the help I can get.  I am hoping somebody at Apple has some kind of total jolt awake and like.....hello???  WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!  What are they doing over there??  Its getting kind of weird.  Makes me think of something like walking into a mall where all of the customers are just browsing and aimless - none of the sales people are attempting to sell a thing.  Cashiers just stand around on their smoke breaks.  Managers are napping and nobody cares.  Yet somehow they manage to stay in business for a couple of months.   And then one day, suddenly for whatever reason somebody snaps out of it & says WHOA!! We gotta start selling some cargo shorts!!  And then maybe they'll get serious.
But maybe by then it'll be too late.  I'll be over at the mall on the other side of town because I'm all peeved.  Even if the mall on the other side of town IS on the wrong side of the tracks.   Shoot! I'll risk it.  Even if it is just to spite them for their little lapse.

What other steps could I take to get my MacBook Air to recognize my iphone again? Neither iTunes nor iPhoto recognize my phone any longer.

iTunes can't be deleted because it comes with OS X. In order to delete it, open Terminal and copy:
    sudo rm /Applications/iTunes.app
This will remove iTunes, so then you can reinstall iTunes

  • Turn OFF prompt to Install Updates for iTunes (as I deleted iTunes)

    Hello:
I deleted iTunes as I did not like it very much at all.
Now I cannot stop the Mavericks Software App Updater telling me there is an update to install. There is no button I can see to say "ignore this update".
I dont want to turn OFF all Mavericks Software App Updater, I just want it to stop telling me about itunes.
    how do I do this?
    thankyou for your help.

    Thankyou Eric
To re-index spotlight in Mavericks OSX , I understood from reading forum posts the steps are a bit quirky.
    They are:
    1) System Preferences/Sportlight and navigate to the privacy tab
    2) add the directory e.g. users which is reallly nearly all my HD
    3) close the System Preferences/Spotlight
    4) reopen system prefereneces/spotlight
    5) and remove the the directory you just added.
Do you know if this is correct?
    thankyou

  • How do i move my itunes library from one acc't to another and then delete itunes on the old acc't?

I would like to set up a media acc't for my family of four to listen to our music library and view all of our photo's.  Then I would like to delete Itunes from my personal acc't.  I have been able to establish a media acc't for all family member's and opened Itunes (i can see all of my purchased songs, but not the ones i have downloaded from personal CD's) to use however, i need assistance in moving over all my music and then deleted the old Itunes from my personal acc't.  Can anyone assist me?
    Thanks.

Locate the song files in the Finder, drag them to a location in the /Users/Shared/ folder, load the shared iTunes library, drag them into the open iTunes application window, and delete the old iTunes library. If desired, you can move the old iTunes library to the Shared folder instead of individually moving the music files.

  • I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet "

iTunes told me to delete my backup folder when I was having problems syncing my phone to my computer. After that it wouldn't work at all. After trying and trying I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet ". What the **** itunes? Nothing is working!!
I wanted to update my iTunes so I could sync my phone to my computer and update my phones software so I can use the latest apps that need a 4.2 or higher.
This is not fun for me so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help. Is it possible to download the "cabinent file" with the lastest iTunes?
    Thank you.

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows Vista

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

  • How do I manually delete iTunes when I want to re-install the latest program? Error says I have no permission so how can I get permission?

How do I manually delete iTunes and all its bits prior to re-installing the version 11 when I get a message saying I don't have permission.
I am the sole owner of my p.c. and nobody else uses it. How do I "get permission" from my own p.c.?
The p.c. is a Dell Vostro running windows 7 (64 bit) After giving up and exiting iTunes there was an error notification saying msvcr 80 is missing from your computer...Also, when I went (blindly) to administrators etc there was a red question mark against a gobbledegook long line apart from David pc which is me. Would this be some malevelant thing? Help!

    Hi David,
Open the start menu, then select Control Panel in the right hand column. Open the Programs and Features section, type Apple in the search box at top right. You need to uninstall the components in the order suggested in the user tip.
Once all have been uninstalled reboot and use Windows Explorer to locate the named folders and delete them. Then reinstall.

  • HT1711 I recently deleted iTunes off my computer by accident, when I reinstalled it I got the new version and I can't figure out how to get my music to store on my iTunes to transfer from my iPhone to iTunes.

I recently deleted iTunes off my computer by accident, when I reinstalled it I got the new version and I can't figure out how to get my music to store on my iTunes to transfer from my iPhone to my iTunes.  I goal is to get my iPod filled with the music that I have stored on my iPhone and figured the only way to do so is to use iTunes as my transfer hub.  Any suggestions?

Wow you're kind of a iTunes bully.  Dude the reason I am asking for advice and help is I am completely computer ********.  If I knew the answer I wouldn't be asking.  Anyways.  Question to anyone else.
If I have no music on my iTunes at all and no music on my computer, hard drive or any other version of storage yet there is a playlist on my iPhone. While my iPhone is plugged into my PC and my iTunes is up, is there a way to swap my playlist from my iPhone to my iTunes?  Directly?  Without downloading some new media source or backing up my old media source from my history.  The reason everything was deleted (iTunes and media source) was due to the size of everything and space it was requiring.  I am simply trying to get 233 songs from A to B.
I have tried magic but it is not working.

I need help iTunes 10.6.3 Mac running 10.7.3 not responding I have deleted iTunes and reinstall iTunes and it keeps happening I also scanned the computer for any trojans and any other possible viruses but the pc is running perfect waft do I do ? Please help me ?

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!
