HT201628 How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Spport on Windows
my new iphone 5s cannot be recognized by itune
I installed the newest version of itune
The itune asked me to uninstall the apple mobile device support and intue
because i need newer version of apple mobile device support
I tried to uninstall the apple mobile device support
but it still in the list of my programs and features
Is there some other way to uninstall the apple mobile device support?
thanks a lot
Thanks, Tiinsky. I followed your instructions (deleting the Apple Mobile Device Support folder under C:) \Program FIles\Common Files\Apple and this seems to have done the trick.
Incidentally, even after doing so, I was still unable to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support through the control panel. It would go three-quarters of the way through the process and then roll back the whole uninstallation.
However, removing those folders did allow me to successfully re-install iTunes--something I hadn't been able to do before. Previously, it would stall out and give me an error message reading "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services" with the choices Retry Abort Ignore--none of which worked.
My operating system is Vista.

I cannot get my computer to reinstall the Apple Mobile Device USB software.
Originally, I updated my Itunes and after that, it would not recognize my iphone anymore. So after that, while following directions on the Apple support page, I tried to uninstall and then reinstall the Apple Mobile Device USB software. It uninstalled fine, but when I tried to put it back, it just kept telling me that the device could not be successfully installed. How do I get it to install?
Morning Bugsy7238,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed
Disconnect the device from the computer.
Save a screenshot by pressing the Home button and the Wake/Sleep button at the same time (the screen should flash briefly). Note: Taking screenshots and saving images on iPod touch requires iOS version 2.0 or later.
Reconnect the device to the computer.
Open the Device Manager in Windows as follows:
Windows XP: Click Start > Run. In the resulting dialog type devmgmt.msc and press Return.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click Start. In the dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click "Continue".
Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper right corner, click the magnifying glass, type devmgmt.msc, and press Return.
Expand all the sections labeled below (not all sections may be listed):
Imaging Devices
Other Devices
Portable Devices
Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Look for the entry that recognizes the device as a camera. This entry should be called Apple iPhone,Apple iPad, or Apple iPod.
If only "Unknown Device" appears
If only Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod appears
Best of luck,

My itunes is no longer recognizing my new ipod when I plug it in . I am getting a message in itunes that says, " this ipod cannot be used because the apple mobile device is not started." I have tried the troubleshooting tips but not sure what to do next. My itunes is updated to 10 and ipod has not been connected to itunes since Oct. Should I update my ipod to 6.1.3? It is only at 6.0.1 I have not done this yet. My itunes is saying version 10. My ipod is not backed up on icloud so i do not know what I should do. I use the same account as My iphone which is backed up by icloud. Please help. Need to put songs on my ipod.
Hello R Hic,
I found an article that goes over how to restart and troubleshoot the Apple Mobile Device Service on Windows. I would recommend following the steps listed in that article and that should resolve your issue.

After I updates ITunes to the latest version (12), ITunes wont find my iphone and Ipad anymore, after searching I found that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed anymore, on the support website of Apple it doesnt explain how to solve this,.
I use Windows 8.1 and so now also ITunes 12, both my Iphone 4S and Ipad Air have the latest IOS version.
I hope anybody can tell me how to solve this that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is back, thank youFound a possible solution for me.
While the phone was plugged into my computer and iTunes is CLOSED.
1. I went to Services in Windows.
2. I selected Apple Mobile Device and right clicked and selected "Stop".
3. Then I right-clicked again and selected "Start".
4. Then I went to Device Manager and right clicked my iPhone with the yellow alert icon and selected "Uninstall". You will get a warning about uninstalling the device. Click OK.
5. At the top of Device Manager I clicked the Action menu and selected "Scan for Hardware Changes".
This re-installed the iPhone and everything started working again. -
I updated my iphone 4s and now it wont sych with my itunes. It goes through the process and says sych comlete but then nothing is updated on my phone. I have tried restarting everything and restarted the apple mobile device but nothing seems to work. Please help!!!!
ClaireDid "everything" include this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275, which says:
Error 23, 28, 29, 40, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. If the MAC address is missing or the IMEI is the default value (00 499901 064000 0), this can also confirm a hardware issue. -

I previously installed my Ipod Nano 7th generation in Itunes, Windows 8.1. When I have recently connected, Itunes does not recognize it. I removed and reinstalled the latest Itunes software, but no success. Message says that Itunes sees an Ipod is connected, but does not recognize it. The USB connection is working fine, as I recharged the Ipod without problem.
Hello Lynn,

Netflix app is stuck in a loop. Tapping the icon sends you to the NETFLIX red sceen. Screen says it's loading but it reverts back to the icon screen. I've removed and reinstalled the app half a dozen times. Works sometimes but then reverts back.
Try resetting your iPad by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
