How can the safe recommended operating temperature be only up to 95F when it is designed to fit into a pocket next to the body and the body can be at 98.6F or higher?
98.6F is the approximate average internal temperature of the human body. It is not the external temperature. Do not insert your phone into any bodily orifice or carry it for long periods of time in your armpit and you'll be fine.

How can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi) images?
Apparently there is a way to save powerpoint slides as 300 dpi images, with some finagling, but not the mac version. Does anyone know how to do this in keynote? Or is there a relativley easy way to do it with free/cheap software? I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.
how can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi)
to save individual images from each slide in Keynote; file > export > images > TIFF (for optimum quality)
You are using the wrong terminology to describe creating an image file
- dpi ( meaning dots per inch ) is the measurement used in printing to create the number of print dots per inch that will be deposited on to physical media like paper or film This is done in the printer settings box of the print driver and is dependant on how the individual printer can print..
ppi ( meaning pixels per inch ) is the measurement you need to use when creating the number of pixels in a digital image file. You establish image resolution in Keynote using the inspector;
Keynote > inspector > document > slide size
I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.
You can resample images in editing applications such as Photoshop or Painter but what you are doing is adding non image information to the image to increase pixel count, this is called noise. As you state this is not the procedure to use in your situation. -
I have a strange problem. When I put my iphone 4S into my pocket (pants or coat) and move it around, the phone makes a beep noise/tone. I can't figure out what is causing the noise. It doesn't sound like any of my regular applications. Maybe it is the lock noise but I can't tell for sure. More movement makes more beeps. Even walking with my phone in my pocket creates beeps. The IOS is 7.0.4 (11B554a). Anyone else have this crazy problem?

Safe Imac operating temperatures.
Hi,
I've searched google and looked at some older posts but haven't really been able to find what im looking for.
i was wondering if there is a list of what the min to max safe operating temps are for intel imacs (aluminum).
i have a 3-4 yr old intel 24" alu imac that's recently been shutting down and i think it's due to overheating.
i downloaded temperature monitor and these are my readings after turning on my computer (after it has been shut down all night).
ambient air - 24C/75F
cpu A heatsink 35C/95F
CPU Core 1 - 33C/91F
CPU Core 2 - 33C/91F
Graphics Processor Chip 1 - 43C/109F
Graphics Processor Heatsink 1 - 43C/109F
Graphics Processing Temperature Diode - 45C/113F

It's pretty cold atm but lst ngiht the upper left corner on the back was quite hot and the rest of the back was also warm. i put a a little fan behind and turned it on and it brought the temps down a little.
TaraSure - I understand the point you're making.
The machine I took to the reseller was out of AppleCare.
Maybe I wasn't insistent enough with Applecare on the 'phone, after all, a crash can be caused by all sort of things and hardware is often way down the list. They suggested I created a new account and see if that crashed. Frankly, I didn't have time to stop using my iMac productively to muck about trying things.
When both machines went the same way, I was suspicious. To hear of someone else in the same boat makes me think I was on to something and not going mad. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple have stats on these failures which could well point to a design failure.
I'm bitter as I lost a lot of time on the whole issue - faithfully filling in crash reports etc and when I called up for support I was fobbed off. Next time I will just unplug the lot and take it to the Genius bar!
I'm not looking for support now though, I'm just *******' -
So i erased my MacBook's hard drive trying to get a fresh, clean system install. After erasing, I tried to install a new OS X with the Recovery drive but after entering my Apple ID it simply says "This item is currently unavailable, Please try again later." So now my computer has no operating system on it, and I can't get one.
You may need to do the following. Check this to be sure you can: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If you are OK:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If the above does not work, then you have to first install Snow Leopard:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X. You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You can now upgrade from the App Store, but right now Apple's servers are not working for Snow Leopard users, so be patient and keep trying to download Yosemite. -
How can I make my iweb website high contrast?
Hello,
High contrast websites seems to become the standard.
Are there ways to improve iweb with a high contrast option?
My website is clean white with text only, but now compared with high res templates white looks grey.
Anybody any ideas?
Many thanks
ReneThe inbuilt facility to do this disappeared with the demise of MobileMe. It is possible: some ISPs offer this facility (GoDaddy is one) so you should start by checking whether yours does.
If not, you can do it yourself provided your ISP allows you to add an .htaccess file to your foldere - not all do. Also it's not entirely straighforward if you are unfamiliar with the techniques involved.
This page describes the method:

Please note the caveats at the bottom of the page: this isn't a highly secure method and you should not rely on it to protect sensitive information. -

How can you get back a lost high score after a partial sync?
I was playing a Temple Run game, which I was currently getting a high score on, when I plugged it into my computer to charge. Since it was the first time I had plugged it in, the Mac asked me to do some stuff. After my iPod started to sync, everything was fine. I then had to leave, so I ejected it and left. It kept syncing until I was out of the wi-fi range and down the road. I go into Temple Run, and find my game I was playing gone. The coins weren't added, and the high score wasn't even updated. When I came home, I tried syncing it again, and the info still didn't come back. Is is possible to regain the data back? I just really want the 7 million high score back...
Try restoring from backup. If yu did not backup since you messed up, restoring from backup should get you back to when the backup was made. Got to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says "Prevent iPod...syncing" otherwise when you connect, a backup will be made that does not contain the info you want.

I have a 6th generation iPod Nano.
I almost exclusively use it as an FM radio and as a pedometer -- so far I have not loaded any songs onto it for listening, nor do I intend to in the future.
Here's my problem:
When my Nano runs out of juice, I have to use the charging cord to plug it into to my iMac's USB port to recharge the Nano. However, whenever I do so, two different (unwanted) actions happened:
First, the act of plugging in the iPod auto-launched iTunes, for syncing. I solved this problem by finding the preference check box for launching iTunes when connecting an iPid, and UNchecking the box. That worked, problem solved.
However, the second automatic action is that the iPod appears as a connected drive on the iMac desktop, as any external device with a drive would appear when connected to any Mac. But I have no need for this to be happening -- I don't intend to upload anything to the iPod, nor to sync it, or whatever -- the only reason I ever connect the iPod to the iMac is to RECHARGE the iPod, not to tinker with the contents of what's on it.
The problem is, every time I then want to disconnect the charging cord, I have to manually "unmount" the iPod drive by dragging its desktop icon to the Trash, when then allows the "it is now safe to disconnect your external drive" state to obtain, allowing me to then unplug it without getting a warning message telling me I shouldn't have just disconnected a connected drive without first unmounting it.
This wouldn't be such a bother, except that the 6th generation iPod Nano has a new "feature" which makes it impossible to see how far along the charging is progressing while it is still in the act of charging. Thus, the only way to know if it is has become fully charged is to unplug it, and look at the battery monitor. While is it still connected and charging, all that displays on the iPod is the "charging now" battery icon, which does not reveal just how the charging is progressing, or if it is fully charged yet. (My iPhone, by way of contrast, displays during charging a battery icon which reveals how far charged it is by that point.)
As a result of this Nano "feature," I often find myself having to connect and disconnect the Nano two or three or more times each time I'm charging it, so I can simply check how far along the charging has gotten, since I want to disconnect it as soon as it has finished charging and get back to using it.
But so far, I have not been able to find any kind of setting or preference which allow me to identify this device as one which I DON'T want to "mount" each time it is plugged in.
All I want to do is just plug in the iPod, and be able to unplug it, without having to to ANY shenanigans on the computer itself. Just plug in = recharging, unplug = not charging any more. Simple.
Question: is there any way to achieve this? Or is it simply not possible, and must I manually unmount the iPod's drive (more than once, usually) each time I plug it in for recharging?I should also point out that when I connect my iPhone, it DOESN'T appear as a connected drive on the desktop. Not sure how this can be so, since the iPhone also has a drive and also functions as an iPod if I want it to. I must have changed some setting to achieve this non-appearance, but don't remember what I must have done.

How can I set up a screen screen sharing VNC at a resolution higher than display?
I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13in, and i have set up screen sharing to access over VNC. I want to view my mac on my 1920x1080 display hooked up to my PC. But when i do it is not full screen, it is the same resolution as my MBP. how can i run it at a higher resolution only over VNC?
As Cvid suggests, I create my "frames" in Photoshop. Not sure about all versions, but my PS has several Actions, just for frames, and I have made a few more, with a different "look."
I Save_As PSD, and just Import those as Footage (I do not need the capability to work with the individual Layers).
Good luck,

Anyone knows the operating temperature of ZEN 2/4/8/6/32 gb? Cos I'm going to a cold country soon and was thinking of bringing my ZEN along.
I don't know the exact temperature specifics only Creative have the "undocumented specs". But I can tell you that the internal Lithium battery would not be a problem but the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen might pose a problem at very low temperatures 32 F/ 0 C (and below) because the liquid in the display could freeze/dis-color/turn dark as with any other LCD. The key is to keep the MP3 close to your body so 98.6 F. will keep the display warm and not freeze. Just put it in your shirt pocket and do not expose it to the elements!

Is it ok to keep my imac in a conservatory (temperatures between 10-34degrees)
Hey there Hayhowp,
It sounds like you need to know the recommended operating temperatures of your late 2006 iMac.
iMac (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications
http://support.apple.com/kb/Sp28
Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
Storage temperature: -40° to 185° F (-40° to 85° C)
I hope you find this information useful.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

How can I make Mail window positions sticky?
One of the few good things about Windows is application windows always open in the same place every time. Why can't we have this with Apple Mail...it occurs with many other inherent Apple applications.
When I open a new message window in Apple Mail I don't want it to be in a different position every time I open it...I want it in the same spot each time (and want that position to be decided by me...I'm the one using the application). Forcing a window to open in the same position is basic programming, so this must be something intentionally done. Is there any way to fix it?

Hi
Mail is a document-based application (that is developer speak - never mind) that automatically stores the size and position of windows (at least it should).
BUT it differentiates between the type of windows you are using - example:
- Mine is configured to show no preview pane (just the sidebar with accounts and folders and the message list on the right)
- When I compose a message it opens in the exact same location where I had the last message composed and send (that is it stores size and position of the composition window)
- When I read a message it opens in the exact same location where I read the last message.
The two window positions can be different...
If this does not work for you then I suggest a look at the pref file for Apple Mail.
It lives in /User/[short user name]/Library/Preferences/ by the name com.apple.mail.plist.
You should only modify this file when Mail is NOT RUNNING. If I open several mail message windows and toss them around size and position get stored immediately in that file.
Unfortunately there is no way to store size and position in that file permanently - you could lock the file but this is not a good idea for Mail will complain about missing rights and stop working.
Cheers,
Walter
