HT201693 Told to update iTunes again and again

Each time I open iTunes I am told to update it to version 12.0.1. I agree to update and the computer restarts, but if I click 'Check for updates' then I am told I need to update again. I tried logging out of my iTunes account and back in, and updating (as advised on one of these forums) but am still told to update. I clicked the Apple logo in the top left of the screen and clicked Software Update, went through this process and there is still an update available through iTunes and through the Apple symbol. It appears to go through the process each time but does not update. I have a MacBook Pro version 10.6.8, Has anybody else had this problem?
Thanks,

You cannot update to v12 on Snow Leopard - v11.4 is the highest you can go. v12 requires OSX 10.7.5 (Lion) minimum. I don't know why you would be being told to upgrade when you can't: it's not happening on my SL Mac.

  • I purchased iCould recently, but all my songs don't show up.  I updated iTunes Match and turned it on, but they're not there.

I purchased iCould recently, but all my songs don't show up.  I updated iTunes Match and turned it on, but they're not there.

I still cannot see all the music; some I downloaded and some I purchased.  For example, I downloaded two CDs by The Band Perry; one is on iTunes and one isn't.  I purchased iTunes Match before I changed computers so I could transfer it all to my new machine without have to load CDs again.  I also purchased some songs that are no longer there.
I looked at the article you referenced and have completed all the recommended steps.  I have authorized this computer and updated iTunes match.  Is there any way to recover the music I downloaded, as well as purchases I made? (I purchased Viva la Vida by Coldplay and it's not on my iTunes.  There may be others, but I haven't noticed any others specifically.)
    Very frustrated....any help is appreciated

  • Updated iTunes yesterday and now cannot sync iPhone 5

updated iTunes yesterday and now cannot sync iPhone 5

Hard to believe an update did this!! I had the exact problem-updated my iPod & iTunes software & iTunes was crashing whenever I hooked up the iPod-"unclicking" all of my purchased music did the trick! THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR THAT TIP-I'M SURE I WOULD'VE STILL BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM!!
Wish I hadn't restored factory settings first since I would have at least still had my piles of PURCHASED music on the iPod-I accidentally had ONE purchased song checked off to update the iPod & it crashed all over again-glad it was easy enough to figure out which song wasn't from my cd collection that I uploaded! Does anyone have any idea how this will be handled? It seems that money should be refunded for buying these songs for Apple products that, upon the company's instructions to upgrade, can no longer be played on the hardware they're specifically designed for! Or at least they're hopefully coming up with a new upgrade to solve the problem! Very irritating situation!

iphone 4 won't turn on after an update, itunes symbol and charging symbol keep showing up but nothing happens when you press any buttons

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPho fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Lets see whether this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?

  • I attempted to update iTunes yesterday and I thought the process completed without any issues but when I tried opening iTunes today, I got an error message that said "iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7"

Attempted to update iTunes on January 23rd and it appeared to install properly.  When I tried to open iTunes on January 24th, it would not open and gave me an error message that said "iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 126)"  I then tried to reintall iTunes and it again appeared to install properly but when it attempted to open, I was given the same error message.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7,now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP,head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • I keep getting the itunes update message and when I accept the terms and conditions it just keeps going back to tell me I have 3 updates itunes, safari and icloud and goes back to accept message without actually downloading?

What is going on with itunes update?  I keep getting the message that updates are available for itunes, safari and icloud, but when I accept the terms and conditions and the install 3 items message, it keeps going back to telling me there are 3 updates available and have to accept terms and conditions again without it ever installing!! I am using a PC with windows vista.  Have not had this problem till December when I got an ipad and had icloud installed, don't know if there is a connection.

I can't offer any help but it soulds like Apple goofed with the latest update. Many of us have the same problem. I may wait a week or so to see if Apple responds.

  • Updated itunes, ipod and now i have playlist issues.

just upgraded to OS X (5.8). then upgraded ipod to os 4.2. then updated itunes to 10. now i am having interesting issues when i plug the ipod into the computer. of course, everything on the ipod music was wiped out. so i had to sync back all the music. but now i cannot make any playlists when i plug in the ipod. i can only make playlists in itunes on the computer. this is not right. i made several playlists on my ipod before. when i hit the file drop down menu, none of the playlist options are highlighted when i have the ipod selected. what has happened or what do i need to do???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Just Updated iTunes/Quicktime and it still won't open...

Ok so I have Windows XP and I went to open iTunes a little bit ago and it told me that iTunes couldnt open because I had Quicktime 7.0 and i needed at least 7.1.
So I downloaded a the newer version of iTunes and Quicktime 7.1 or whatever and it still won't open. I shut down and restarted my computer and it is still telling me the same error message. Its trying to tell me delete my iTunes or something and re-download it.
I'm really really afraid that I will lose most of my music library because I havent backed it up recently and I have a lot of purchased music and I really dont know what to do! Someone please help!

ok i just deleted Quicktime and then reinstalled 7.1 and everything works! iTunes and Quicktime both open and work like normal!

  • After update - iTunes freezes and needs a force quit when I plug in any device!

I recently update to OS X Yosemite and I also updated my iTunes to 12.1 - but now every time I plug in my iPhone 6 or my iPad mini, my iTunes freezes and I have to force quit. So now I can't even plug in and sync my devices or update them or do anything!

Had this problem yesterday while syncing my iphone to PC. iTunes asked if I wanted to upgrade to iTunes 9 and iphone 3.1. I agreed. The sync failed saying it couldn't identify my iphone and then asked me to restore my iphone.
I had to do a restore to get 3.1 loaded (first time I've had a problem with an update) but I did get it done .. then had to reload all my apps, audio, video with a 1+ hr sync.
But it did works .. and no problems of any kind (and my email works just fine)

  • Updating Itunes manually, and it doesn't install

I've tried to manually update Itunes 4 times and each time get the same error:  The installer was stopped before installation was complete.  Your system has not been changed"  The automatic update doesn't work either (something about an invalid signature).  Can anybody help?

Check WIndows System file for corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair any files.
Now Install and see if it is OK.
If not, fix the Windows Install and Uninstall issue:
Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch
