HT201700 MagSafe 2 connector is glowing red

why is my MagSafe 2 connector is glowing red

Either it's charging the battery normally (red = charging, green = charged), or you need to take cover in a fallout shelter ASAP.

  • Headphone Jack Glowing Red, Internal Speakers Not Working...

Hey, I have a 2.0GHz White MacBook (almost a week old), and I just recently came across this problem (this morning, actually). I usually have my MacBook connected to some external speakers through the headphone jack, the internal speakers are pretty terrible. Anyway, last night I left the computer on playing music as I fell asleep, this morning I woke up and the computer must have some how come unplugged from the AC power, as it was dead. I plugged it back in and everything was fine (I mean, it had to charge up, and the battery 'health' in iStat Pro was down to 93%, also not sure what this means... But everything else was fine). Then, I unplugged my external speakers and the jack was glowing red, I believe there's an LED inside. The internal speakers would then not work.
I did a quick Google search and discovered that this problem had been experienced on MacBook Pros. Someone recommended plugging in a set of headphones, I did so and then unplugged them and the internal speakers worked for a moment. I plugged in the external speakers again, and they worked (and work) fine. The problem is with the internals, they don't work, and plugging in my headphones again has not solved the problem, and the light is still on when the jack is not occupied.
    Any ideas?
[edit] As of this writing, they are currently working, after plugging in the headphones again and unplugging them, however, the light still blinks when I do this, and there is a bit of a hesitation between the headphone being unplugged and the internal speakers kicking in... (longer than normal, I know there was always a slight delay, but this is a few seconds of blinking light and no sound).

you can fix this by "cleaning" the audio jack. the computer thinks that a digital output is connected. if you go to sound under system preferences, and it says digital output rather than internal speakers, then this is the problem.
I used a tightly rolled up piece of toilet paper to clean the jack. I twisted it up, stuck it in the jack, and then moved it around for a while. the red light went off and my internal speakers started working. someone else used a toothpick.
also, before i fixed this, i couldn't turn the volume up or down (unless i was using headphones) and the volume level screen that shows up on the screen had a circle with a line thru it...like the no smoking signs, but small and just under the volume bars.

  • Is it possible to use a Magsafe L-connector on my late 2008 Macbook which was shipped with Magsafe T-konnector?

Is it possible to use a Magsafe L-connector on my late 2008 Macbook which was shipped with Magsafe T-konnector? I can't see that Apple Store sells Magsafe T...

yes, it is perfectly safe, it can be used without any issues.

  • My macbook pro It has remained without sound and the connector has a red light

my macbook pro It has remained without sound and the connector has a red light. The analogic sound doesn't work. Thanks for your attention...

Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    Best.

  • Can I get a MagSafe power connector from Apple?

Like many, my power adaptor is coming apart at the MagSafe connector. I need a new MagSafe connector with a few inches of cable coming out of it to more permanently repair it - I really don't want to have to buy a whole power adaptor just to get a new connector. So, who do I contact to get one? Thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You should be able to get a replacement I believe it should be covered by the warranty.

  • Hot MagSafe plug / connector & " whine" whining noise

    Hello -
MacBook user (MacBook2,1) on 10.6.7 with a reasonably new magsafe charger. For the last day, the computer makes a high-pitched hiss or whine / whining noise when plugged in. Also, the magnetic connector gets unusually hot. The battery is not hot, but the rear of the MacBook near the MagSafe port is hot.
I am getting tired of calling Apple about a variety of post-10.6.7 issues and thought I'd ask here first for ideas. Likely I'll take this to the Genius Bar...
    Gregg

Ah. Foolish of me to expect Apple to actually monitor their own discussion forums, I suppose.
Basically the question(s) come(s) down to, "why is there a horrible whining noise playing through my car stereo when the usb plug of the official apple a/v cable is plugged into a charger when there is no noise whatsoever when it isn't plugged into a charger...?" Furthermore, "why does the official iphone a/v cable cause the iphone to inform me that it's not a recognized peripheral (or words to that effect" and lastly, "why does the iphone suggest switching to airplane mode when I use it to play music in car as I believed the iphone to be perfectly capable of playing music whilst still acting as a phone." The last point is why I bought an iphone istead of, say, an iPod AND a separate phone...
Pretty much as I said in the first post, really.

  • Headphone minijack - glowing red

Wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why I've lost a factory default on my System / Sound Preferences. There is no more "analog (built in speakers)" option to speak of and Audio Midi Setup doesn't recognize the internal speakers on the laptop either.

you can fix this by "cleaning" the audio jack. the computer thinks that a digital output is connected. if you go to sound under system preferences, and it says digital output rather than internal speakers, then this is the problem.

  • Sound jack glowing red

    Hello,
So since a week, my sound jack is giving me a red light. I did some research on it, and what came out is that the sound jack is probably stuck and that if you put a toothpick in it gently it will be all good.
But this wasn't the case with me, so I did more research. And I saw a post with a few tips. Nothing worked but there was 1 last tip, run a repair disk with the install CD. I tried that and it said that it couldn't be repaired and had to reinstall osX (I couldn't mount it anymore). So I reinstalled osX and even now the sound jack will turn red when hearing music.
My biggest fear is that it's a hardware problem, and I have to give it to an apple centre. They didn't do a good job a few months ago, they fixed 1 hardware problem but caused 100 software problems. So yeah, I don't like the apple care thing.
A side note: The speakers work perfectly on windows even when there's a red light..
    Greetings Robin.

I've had this intermittent issue on my 2009 MBP for years now, it comes and goes and I've never had any issues with sound whatsoever, both through speakers and through the port itself. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if it isn't causing any issues.

  • P35 Platinum (MS-7345): Power on, Led 1 glows red, nothing else happens !

    Hi
I'm trusting my specs appear in my sig ......
I'm not sure how to procede as the PSU would appear OK but the mobo is not replying "power up !"
    TIA
    Steve

Is the power switch of your case (power button) properly connected to the board's JFP1 pin header?
If yes, take the board out of the case and put in on a non-conducting surface.  Try barebone configuration for testing:
    - CPU (reseat CPU and heatsink)
    - video card (make sure it is in the slot closest to the CPU)
    - one stick of RAM in slot 1 (try the other one as well)
    - Keyboard
    - power connectors
    - power-on switch (case)
Remove everything (unplug from both, PSU and mainboard): hard drives, optical drives, X-FI card, USB Front panel connectors, all other devices.
Make sure the board's strap jumpers (JB1/JB2) are properly jumpered to 200 MHz FSB clock speed.
After unplugging devices and before your next start-up attempt, make sure you clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
The 24-Pin ATX connector of your PSU has a removeable 2x2-Pin part.  Make sure you have not confused that part with the +12V-CPU connector in the right picture.  I am saying that because this happened to someone the other day.  The symptoms were similar.
Also, your PSU only has a 4-Pin +12V CPU plug (picture on the right). The board's 8-Pin connector can be used with 4-Pin Plugs.  Just make it is plugged into that part of the connector that is not covered by a plastic cap on the following picture:

  • Macbook Pro, clicking/clunking noise near Magsafe Power Connector?

    Hi all,
I recently purchased (3 weeks ago) A brand new late 2008 old-model MacBook Pro with full 1-Year Apple Warranty.
Just earlier today, near the magsafe power adapter there is a really audible clicking/clunking noise, sometimes it wont do it for ages, sometimes it does it 4 or 5 times in one minute... It wasn't doing this at all previously, but now it has started doing so..
Does anyone know what this could be? I've googled and read through a few topics but there aren't really any problems that sound similar to mine.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Since one of the possibilities is the hard drive, be sure to make a good back up of your data and keep it up to date while you are researching what the noise is. Also, open Disk Utility and see what the S.M.A.R.T. status is.
Another possibility might be a fan.
You could run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test and see if anything turns up in the form of an error code.
These are just a couple of general suggestions. Each build has its own idiosyncrasies, and you will likely find out more specific information in the late 2008 forum.
    Good luck!

  • My 13" MacBook Pro (purchased in June 2012) just turned off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting the SMC. Still no luck. The MagSafe 'L' connector is faintly flickering green. The battery was at least 25% when the computer suddenly went dead.

Any tips on what else I can try before I take it in to Apple?

I have the exact same problem. how did you fix this?

  • LED in Headphone Jack glowing red!?

I recently had my headphones plugged in and when I pulled the plug out of it an LED turned on right inside the actual jack itself.
Since then I cannot control the volume level of my mac via the keyboard/volume meter on the actual bar. I am able to mute the sound but when the little volume level window shows up in the middle of the screen there is a little "( \ )" picture underneath it.
I've never seen this happen before, if you know how to fix this issue please post ASAP, thanks.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unlike the older iMac G4 (Flat Panel) the iMac G5s and iMac Intels have Optical Digital Audio ports inside their standard 3.5mm Audio ports. Unfortunately many of us hear (pun intended) aren't familar with the iMac you have so you'll need to post elsewhere.
    G4 (Flat Panel; 700MHz - 1.25GHz): G5 (1.6 - 2.1GHz):
The only thing I could suggest is to go Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Sound > ... and check that you aren't set to digital output or something similar....
    kind regards

  • TS1713 If My Mac notebook run almost 5 mins, the MagSafe 2 connector will be very very hot!!!!! Is there anything wrong?

    it has been 2 weeks!!
Power charging is ok!! And battary is also good!!
But the temperature of  connecter is very high!!
    What should I do??

If you can't improve things by cleaning, or freeing stuck pins as described on the page you came from, and have no other power adaptor to test with - I'd get Apple or an authorised repairer to check it out as soon as possible...hopefully before any damage is done.

  • Display colors suddenly off - all black objects red or red glow

Suddenly, display colors went off. The cursor arrow is now red. Script displayed on browsers is now black with red hue and overtone. Pictures all "glow" red where they are supposed to be black. I did consciously change any settings. Short of a "clean install," how can I restore the original color display settings, or could it be another problem?

    Hello stepheneng,
Have you checked in System Preferences>Displays>Color tab for settings there? Is your normal Display Profile selected? You may want to try calibrating by clicking on the button found in that pane and see if you can improve your display.
    hope that helps some,
