Though I have doubts for success, you might try a SMC reset.  It can do no harm.  Otherwise, barring suggestions from others, the Apple Store or qualified repair facility is the last option.

  • Equaliser, Sound Check and Volume make no difference to the Shuffle!

    Hi there
I want to boost the volume of my First Generation iPod so it will sound pretty good on my passive speakers.
However, I notice that adjusting the volume on the iTunes file and adjusting the equaliser makes no difference when playing the shuffle back!!
Also Ive discovered along the way that, although there is an option for sound check, it does nothing either!!
Why put a 'Sound Check' box in the option if it makes no difference?!
Also, how can I boost the output of my shuffle. I cant seem to get the shuffle to 'read' tracks I have modified!
    Tc

You didn't mention adjusting the volume using the control button on the front of the shuffle. I'd expect you'll need to run it up to maximum. Even then, I have my doubts about how much volume you'll be able to get out of even mini desktop passive speakers, although I know they're sold.
If you tried enabling Sound Check (both in iTunes and the shuffle's settings) and adjusting the volume in the song's Info/Options, I wouldn't expect an audible difference since they'd work to cancel each other out.
I've never tried the equalizer at all, but in the past I've used the volume adjustment in a song's Info/Options to adjust for differences between songs. It worked for me, for that purpose. I haven't tried it as an overall volume boost, though.
A utility like MacMP3Gain does a bit better job of normalizing song to song volume than Sound Check, to my ears. I haven't included a link to the program, since this board has disallowed that in the past. It's pretty easy to find, though.
That said, these days I'm just using Sound Check and from time to time tweaking the results with the shuffle's front button. But that's a different application than yours.
    Good luck

  • What exatly is the sound check feature?

    ?

It is a feature that enables your ipod to play all of your songs at roughly the same level. This is good when you want to play your music and not have to worry about constantly changing the volume and wasting the battery. You have to turn on the sound check in itunes first though.

My iPhone 4 has lost SIM connection several times over the past week when the phone is left on continually. I have had the SIM checked and it was not the source of the problem. I have found that I can reactivate the SIM by switching the phone off and on again. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, is there an easy fix. I have been advised by Apple that the latest IOS update may overcome this situation but I'm only on slow download speeds and 690 Mb would take forever. I would appreciate any advice.
    Best regards,

Open System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects
Select:  Play user interface sound effects
And make sure the Mute box is not selected.
Now open Mail. From the Mail menu bar clik Mail > Preferences then select the General tab.
Make a selection from the:  New messages sound  pop up menu.

  • The only time the sound/speaker and mic don't work is when I answer or make a call

The only time the sound/speaker and mic don't work is when I answer or make a call. They both work fine for everything else. This has been going on for over a month. AT&T said it's Apple and Apple said it's AT&T. I've been around that cycle twice.
When I dial a call, I can see the status words on the screen but can't hear the ringing. If the person I'm calling answers, my screen will show the call was connected and the call timer will begin but I can't hear anything and they can't hear me. If one of us doesn't end the call, the timer keeps going and I'm being 'charged' for dead air. (Of course, one of us disconnects so mins/cost isn't an issue, I'm just adding the info in case it helps solve the problem.) If they don't answer, the call will go to their greeting but I can't hear it and wouldn't be able to leave a message anyway because my voice isn't going through. However, they will get a voice mail alert and see that I called but no message was recorded.
If some one tries to call me they will hear ringing but when I answer, they can't hear me and I can't hear them. If I don't answer, they will hear my greeting and can leave a message. I can retrieve and hear my voice mail. Trying speaker phone and headsets didn't change anything for calls out nor for calls in.
I have 4.3.3 and have synched, reset, rebooted, turned things on and off and off and on and took the SIM card out of the phone and out of it's tray and put it back in. I've done all that several times in just about every combination and order possible.
Hopefully the following will provide good clues:  On only about three of the many attempts I've made to get it to work correctly that included taking out the SIM card, I could make and/or get one or two calls with no trouble but then the problem comes back. Also, when I swapped the SIM card with another iPhone4 on my plan, the other phone would work with my SIM card but my phone still would not work with the other SIM card. The last fact makes me think it is an Apple issue. I'll go to an Apple store (genius) this weekend. Will I be wasting my time and gas? Anybody have any experience with this problem?

Let me try and address some of your questions.  I'm only on a pc, so a few of these answers might be slightly different on a Mac, but not too different (such as control click rather than right click).
First, when you buy something on your phone, be it apps or music, it's transferred from your phone to your Mac when you sync your phone.  So those apps should now be in you iTunes library. ( IF for some reason you can't find them there, you should be able to download them again, either onto your phone or through iTunes.  On your phone, go to the App Store > Updates and you'll see a "Purchased" link at the top of the page, you can view all purchased apps here and redownload them.  In iTunes, you can go to Store > Check for available downloads. )
Whenever you plug your phone in, it should create a backup of everything you have on the phone.  This is how, provided restoring your phone as a new device doesn't fix the issue (more on this later), you can put all of your music and apps onto the new phone.  You can always plug your phone into your Mac and the first thing it should do when it syncs is create a backup.   If you want to be sure, you can right click on your device in iTunes (on a pc) or I assume control click on a Mac and select "backup".
The genius will take care of the sim card and setting up your phone, however you will have to put all of your music and apps on it, unless you ask the genius, I've never bothered since I know how to do this.
You should have no problems restoring from a backup if they give you a new phone.  However, it's probably safest to try and create a backup of your last phone backup before you restore it as a new device.   I suggest you refer to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414 for more information about that.
I've had no problems with my new phone so far.
I'll try to keep checking this thread if you have any other questions or need more clarification.
Edit: I should say we never did figure out what exactly was wrong with my phone.  The only thing I can think of was that it got a lot hotter than the phone it replaced, and also the phone I just got yesterday to replace the malfunctioning one.  But otherwise they saw no problems with the hardware, but acknowledged it must have been the hardware since we tried everything else.  Also I would go with a list of all the things you tried with this phone, for your own reference and the genius's, especially if you're not confident in your tech skills Showing the genius that you've tried: different sim cards, updating the software, restoring it from a backup, and now restoring it as a new device, should convince them that you've done everything you could, and the only other answer is hardware problem.
Also if you don't already have one, make a genius appointment ASAP.  Most stores are very busy and their appointments fill up fast.  I always suggest making an appointment as early as possible, hopefully before the retail store hours when they've only got techs there because they usually are less stressed and have a bit more time to spend with you.  The easiest way to make an appointment is to download the Apple Store app.  It detects the closest Apple store from you and makes it quite easy to schedule a genius.

  • Sound check and normalization

when i play mp3 with winamp (sorry guys, but my most favourite player) or edit the tag infos, i can see the normalization infos of itunes (itunnorm 78978977879) and not my infos!!!!!!!!!
i tried 2 disable this funktion in itunes, but on every restart itunes begins 2 analyse all tracks again....
how can i turn off the sound check funktion?

First, I would consider leaving it on, and to stop using Winamp. Winamp shouldn't display this info, and if it is, then it's Winamp's bug. You might be able to stop Winamp doing this by using iTunes to Convert the ID3 tags on your MP3's to v2.3 tags. Right click the track in iTunes and tell it to convert the ID3 tag. If that works, you can do it on the whole library at once (CTRL-A to select all, then same thing).
But, you can disable SoundCheck entirely by turning off Sound Check in the Preferences screen AND by turning off the "Use Sound Check" on the burning preferences tab as well. Both of them must be turned off or it will scan your files for volume level information.

I have checked a couple of units here and no preinstalled note application on them either. However there are a large number of small and free notepad type applications that can be installed via the Playstore with little effort.

  • Sound Check and audio levels

My Ipod touch will not let me change the audio settings.  Before I upgraded to the latest os for my ipod touch I used sound check and the levels of my music was mostly the same, now it is all over the place and I can't seem to fix it.  I will gladly take any advice on this please.

I have the same problem when disconnecting my Cintiq Companion Hybrid but its very intermident as if you continue to connect and discount it you can get it working again. Also the keyboard and track pad and cut out when you first plug it in, but have found that by keeping the trackpad active (moving your finger on it) while it goes to mirrored screen mode, it can help keep both working.

  • Sound Check and Alarm

What does the "sound check" option actually do. It appears to just limit the volume, but how does it know what volume to which to limit?
Also, is there any way of making the alarm BEEP louder?

What does the "sound check" option actually do. It appears to just limit the volume, but how does it know what volume to which to limit?
Audio CDs are mastered differently, so you may have discrepancies in volume between songs on different albums.
You can use the soundcheck feature to standardize the volume of all the songs in your music library.
Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
    iTunes/preferences/playback (Macs).
Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.
There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
    For Macs there is iVolume.
    Also Macmp3Gain.
Also, is there any way of making the alarm BEEP louder?
Not as far as i know.

  • The sound check of new iTunes *****!

When I updated the iTunes into this 6.0.2, something interesting happened.
My music become rather soft and unlikely to hear any details in the music. When I check the volume of some pieces, I found that the sound check system(scs) reduce the volume by 12.x dB! Nearly half the intensity of the sound waves are reduced! When I switch off the scs, the volume comes to normal. I really want to use the system but when I think of how ***** it does, I nearly start swearing...... Apple, please fix it!
      Windows XP

Same problem for me. Some of my song levels were
reduced by 13 dB. I uninstalled 6.02 and reinstalled
the previous version and levels are back to normal.
    There's definitely a problem here.
Can you give me the installation file of 6.0.1?
    Petey0201
    Start>Settings>Control Panel>Quicktime>Audio
Uncheck the box that is labeled "Safe Mode" and tweak
some of the sound quality sliders underneath to
perfect your sound... Worked for me.
I do believe that it is a Quicktime error and i do
believe that the update "checked" that box and
therefore applys it only to the AAC format songs.
    That would be my guess.
Actually, my musics are all in Apple Lossless format.(Is that defined to be AAC?) After the update, "Safe Mode" is still not checked.
And, as my English is not good, I can't figure out what is meant by "tweak some of the sound quality sliders underneath to perfect your sound". Do you mean changing the rate, size and channel?
Now, my temporary solution is: Change the option of all the musics to be +100% volume adjusted. However, the final volume is quite strange.
