I have tried option/alt and I have also pressed c a boot up. What do I have to do to get my mac to let me switch HD's on setup since its not option/alt or c any longer?

    X = OS X
Set the default to Vista until you find if it is a keyboard related issue or something else. I think some people are pointing at the newer keyboards as likely culprit.
Both systems show in startup disk control on both sides, right? so you can use that for now.

  • What Mac App can use to see Baseline and Main Level Profiles of H.264 files

Trying to figure out why some files play funny (herky jerky)... thinking it might be related to these being too high/unsupported...

Hi, I could be wrong but this could be a question of framerate ...
Even more if your projector does not support a native 24p framerate or if you do not correctly set the video output framerate ..
if your file has got a framerate on 24p (like on BDs), make sure to adjust this framerate on your video output in MAC OSX, else this will transform from 24p into 60p or 50p, with known consequences.
To get relevant information of your video files to adjust the output, U can check all information by using for instance MEDIA INSPECTOR.
I hope this can help U.
www.hdfever.fr (in french ... but very usefull) maybe could help U.

  • Screenshot - when option key is being used to view the info

    Hello
I want to take a screenshot of the "WIFI detail information" that you can view ONLY, if you hold the "option key" and select the WIFI from the menu bar wifi icon. If you do this (option key while selecting wifi) then apple yosemite osx shows you the detailed information about the wifi you are using in real time e.g. speed, channel, noise etc.
I wanted to take this "Screenshot" of the wifi settings I can see, and select the wifi hot spot by my ISP but i cannot take a screenshot as the standard screenshot keys are not accessible if I am using the option key already.
I need this screenshot, to try and help me troubleshoot a problem.  That problem is  --- my local ISP is trying to tell me there is a problem with my apple macbook and my apple iphone (3gs), as even though I select the wifi, no internet is coming thru and my iphone uses my mobile broadband rather than the free wifi hotspot, my ISP as been marketing is available to me.  This problem is intermittent.  Sometimes it works as suppose to and somedays it does not.  As a temporary measure, I turn OFF mobile data and then i know for sure when the wifi is working or not.
So in my troubleshooting steps, I wanted to show the ISP the difference I see of their WIFI settings, on the days it works and the days it does not work.  As same macbook and same iphone device and same ISP plan(number) and same free wifi hotspot location  trying to connect to the ISPs free wifi hotspot.  In fact I have tried 3 of the free wifi hot spot locations on the days it does not work in location 1 and all the same problem, no internet.
    thankyou for your time

    sea3,
After displaying the WIFI detail using the option key, use Command (⌘)-Shift-3 to take a Screenshot of the entire screen.

Use the little icon that looks like a curved arrow in a box.  That should bring up a Print menu, among other things.

I already have multiple devices and by far I like my iPad the most over laptops and the iPad. That including checking out my friends MacBook Air.
The difference for me is the touch interface on the screen itself for things that do not require a lot of typing. For me, the iPad is more "magical" than anything else I've used.
Again, I do appreciate your answers but you don't know my situation. Not everything is as it is perceived without knowing me and what I have to go through.

  • Can't boot using key combos

    Hi folks,
a few months ago, my wife's Macbook (model 5,2, Mid 2009) suffered a minor fall.
a few days after this little fall, a keyboard problem appeared: the left arrow key acts as if I almost always pressed. I activated the keyboard viewer and it's confirmed that.
I've tried to reinstall osX (10.6) and recovered backup from Time Machine. Maybe because of it (or not!), the problem decreased considerably, but reappeared days later. I've phisically removed the key, took a look and all looks normal.
So today, after she almost had a breakdown trying to write an email, I've decided to try to solve the problem again. Tried PRAM reset, Applejack, but it didn't work. Tried Verbose mode, but also didn't work. So I realized that none of the startup key combos are working. There's no Firmware Password activated. Tried using my old Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (first gen.), didn't work.
I searched and reasearched a lot and find no answer or even a clue. Then I realized something: apparently, the keyboard is not loading until the Apple logo/loading spinning appears. I noticied that by hitting the caps lock key wheen booting, and the light doesn't turn on until that grey screen.
So iIm asking for some help like:
Is there another way to enter Single-User mode or run Applejack?
Why the keyboard is not loading until the grey screen appears? How to solve this?
Any other suggestions or help would be great!
    Thanks in advance,
    baga

The BIOS is set to resume using any keyboard key.
That means that "Specific Ley PowerOn" is no activated, or what? The BIOS Section "Wake Up Event Setup" contains the following options:
    - Resume From S3 By USB Device
    - Resume From S3 By PS/2 Keyboard
    - Specific Key PowerOn
    - Resume From S3 By PS/2 Mouse
    - Resume By PCI Device (PME#)
    - Resume By PCI-E Device
    - Resume By RTC Alarm
    Which one did you enable/disable?

  • Various results of using CMD-I key combo for get info

I just updated to Snow Leopard from Leopard and I'm pretty baffled by some new behavior.
I'm used to using the key combo CMD-I to pull up the get info dialog so I can change the default app to open the files with.
Every once in a while, when I select a bunch of files and do CMD-I key combo, it opens up many many individual windows. I can't figure out when or why it does this and how to get the get info window so I can change them all to open with Quicktime.
Other times, it does what I expect. It opens up one get info window for all the items so I can change the open with app.
Can anyone explain what's going on and how to get the usual CMD-I back? Thanks,

    Thanks Malcolm.
CMD-Opt-I key combo helps when CMD-I fails, but, I still don't understand what the problem is with CMD-I being inconsistent.
I just did an experiment with some files that I have in iTunes because these are the ones I often need to Get Info to change them to open with Quicktime player.
    Example.
Folder 1 has 19 files. CMD-A followed by CMD-I opens up one dialog box "Multiple Item Info". I can change the open with default.
Folder 2 has 4 files. CMD-A followed by CMD-I spawns 4 windows with each files name followed by info, e.g. "Filename1.mp3 Info"
    This doesn't make sense.

  • Is there a way to "see" what font you're using?

    Hi,
I'm a bit new to PAGES. I thought when you turn "Show Invisibles" you would see things like what font you're using . . . if it's bold or underlined or italicized - things like that - you would see these characteristics in the body of the document. So if I were writing a paragraph and changed the font in the middle of it, I could actually "see" a symbol indicating the font had been changed. That way, if you wanted to change it back, you could just delete that "invisible" symbol, and change it.
WORD seems to work like that. Is there a way to "see" these symbold in PAGES?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Thank you, Barry. At least you've confirmed what I thought
Interesting that WORD (which I hate) does such a nice job in this area. When you want to "see" invisible symbols - WORD shows them all to you. I thought it was nice to see exactly 'where' in the document a different font or style might start - that way you can eliminate it there - or change it there - etc. But PAGES, won't even show you. Wonder why they only show you 'some' invisible files?
    Thanks, though, for your reply.
