Internet Sharing on MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion
I am having trouble enabling internet sharing on my macbook pro with os x mountain lion, version 10.8.3. My computer is connected to the internet from an ethernet cord, and I want to share the connection with my iphone wirelessly. I have tried going to system preferences > sharing > internet sharing. From here I chose "Ethernet" from the dropdown menu "Share your connection from." I chose "Wi-Fi" from the ports options under "To computers using." (AirPort is NOT an option listed under the ports menu). When I then check the internet sharing box to enable the sharing, a message pops up saying "To share your Internet connection, you must turn on Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is turned off." Obviously, I don't have Wi-Fi, so I can't do this. How do I fix this problem?? Please help!!
No, I don't have Wi-Fi. There is no Wi-Fi in this building. If there were, I wouldn't need to share my internet through the ethernet cord.

Ever since I installed the Mountain Lion update to the OS, my iMac has been running very slowly. I have to wait 25 seconds to come out of a sleep mode. This and a number of other issues makes the machine unusable. Please tell me how I should try to address this.
Man, do you have Sophos antivirus? If that so, you need to uninstall it the right way:
For Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 7.x , go to Macintosh HD|Library|Sophos Anti-Virus.
Select 'Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg'.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
NOTE, if you are running Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 4.x, the path in step 1 is Macintosh HD|Library|Application Support|Sophos Anti-Virus.
It seems that Sophos antivirus is crashing ML. They have an update but I'll wait some time becuase I've really had a painful time these days. -
I updated my imac to osx mountain lion. Had trouble with icloud affecting my itunes so I turned off iclouds.
Then my automatic software updates stopped coming through. Even when I check for them manually by
clicking on software update it acts like it's checking for about one second then says "no updates available".
It's been months since I've got any updates, used to get them every week or two.
Could turning off icloud have affected the necessary contacts ? Please help,

If you check for software updates using the App Store in OS X 10.8 and get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" the problem may be with your Software Update preferences. This is particularly likely if you were using a custom Apple Software Update server. To solve the problem, quit the App Store, move the following two files (if present) to the trash, restart, and only then rerun App Store updates:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.lockfile

I have an older model iMac with Snow Leopard. Can I download the icloud? and if so from where can I do that?
iCloud requires OS X 10.7.2 or later, so you have to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Lion.
First, see if your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, you can make a backup of your data.
When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade Mac OS X. After upgrading, you will be able to log in iCloud in System Preferences > iCloud.

I am using iPhone 4s.ATT confirmed my iPhone is unlocked. I am in india now and I am using a sim card provide by a service provider in india.
I followed the following steps.
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have internet connectivity.
Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
Backup your iPhone.
Erase the contents of your iPhone
Restore your backup.
Swap the old SIM card with one for the new carrier.
Complete the Setup Assistant.

The Sim Card that you currently have installed in this iphone is from carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with iphone Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier od request from this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact apple for more information.

My nook app keeps telling me "Please be sure you have internet connectivity, then try again." I am currently connected to wifi and it seems that all my other apps that need to be connect to the internet are properly working. I have turn off my phone, signed off my wifi, installed a new app, but nothing is working. My friend is having similar issues. My phone is up to date. I even tried taking off the wifi in hopes that it could just connect to the 3g but nothing. Not sure if anyone else is experiencieng this issue or knows what I can do. I think that it may be an app problem that needs fixed, but not sure. Help!
Maybe its a Viber problem. As that is not an Apple product, why don't you try and contact the developer?

I have a 2008 vintage iMac with 2.8GHz processor and recently upgraded to OS X 10.9.5. Soon after theupgrade the mail system started switching the senders address to another address, but same user name. How do you fix this?

Even more details:
If I send a message to the Jane Doe address from another account on this machine (all my family uses the same email services provider and each have accounts set up on this machine), when you open it, it shows Jane Doe then the <applejax.xx> address AND the picture associated with the Apple Jax account.
So the problem shows up when the message is sent to this account from this machine, AND when it is sent from this machine from this account. No other accounts on the machine are effected.
I have sent and received email messages from the mail service provider's website, and everything is fine. -
I just bought a new iMac and I am new to the Desktop Mac. I read you can get a free upgrade to Mountain Lion if you bought your computer after June 11, 2012. Do I have to do something before Mountain Lion is released? If so What? Thanks

Internet sharing no longer works after Lion 10.7.4 update. Hopefully Apple will fix this shortly. Little excuse for this kind of screw-up.

1. go to finder>(computer name)>macintosh HD>library>preferences
2. copy the entire systemconfiguration folder and systemconfiguration.old folder to your desktop
3. restart mac and device which you share intenet to
then you have internet that is about 3x slower than the da 10.7.3 intenet sharing, but works
then, just wait for apple to release da 10.7.4 fixed

Shared drives no longer network accessible on iMac running Mountain Lion.

I've been searching the community on and off for weeks and have not been able to come to a solution. I have an external hard drive connected to a 2007 iMac running Mountain Lion that has successfully been shared on my network for over two years starting with Snow Leopard. Just recently I noticed the shared drives were no longer showing up on my networked Macs (running anything from Leopard to Mountain Lion). What's odd is the shared drives will connect and show up for the first 5 minutes or so after the iMac is restarted, but will go offline soon after. The iMac shows up in the side bar, but I get the dreaded "Connection Failed" message in Finder when I click "Connect As" after the shared drives first go away. Screen sharing works fine all the time when accessing the iMac. I've tried everything on the iMac from disabling the firewall completely to renaming it on the network to disabling SMB on all shared partitions. Anyone have any suggestions?What version of OS X are you installing on the external drive? Is the drive partitioned GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled?

Set "hot corner" to put iMac to sleep. Doesn't work. Selecting the corner will momentarily put to sleep, but immediately rewakes. Have tried all four corners with same result. Have tried with wireless mouse and with corded mouse with same result. Any ideas as to how to fix?
You've been so great, I want to thank you for all the help over a very frustrating day. Last evening, I redownloaded and installed the fresh copy of Mountain Lion. The problem remained. After installing the new OS 10.8, any clicks on a web page (Firefox browser) didn't open the page, but instead made a copy of the page on the desktop. Felt it must be hardware degrading, so I set up a case with Apple support for today. Early in the diagnostics, I had swapped out for a corded mouse and the problem remained. As a last try, I changed out my wireless mouse for a different wireless mouse. That seems to have done the trick. My Logitech mouse is incompatible with OS 10.8.

I have multiple IDs and use the single computer sharing itunes. By 'sharing' I mean we open the pc, open itunes and log in with our individual ID as required.
While Im logged in I plug in my device. I transfer my purchases from my device as per the file menu (not the check for auto downloads). I move them as required to whichever playlist I like.
Then when my son wants to use itunes or update his device, he logs in, plugs in his device, transfers purchases from his device, puts whatever music he wants into his playlist and/or drags direct to the device regardless of who purchased it and then syncs.
Im not sure how it works associating the pc with only one ID or all that other business- I know I don't fiddle with any of that. -

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.

You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.
