Hi everyone - and Merry Christmas
I've bought an Apple TV and it worked fine this morning, and now it doesn't work and keeps putting up a picture of connecting to iTunes. From what I've read I have to have a micro cable??? I don't have one of these. Am SOOOOO frustrated with this!!! I have a MacBook Air.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? I've tried unplugging etc.

Oh!! I didn't know that! Was getting incredibly frustrated. Thank you for letting me know. I'm in Australia, and our supermarkets pale in comparison to those in the States (I'm assuming you're in the States for some reason!), but I'll look tomorrow.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Restore to what?
An iCloud backup can be restored without iTunes. This restoration is only done in the new iPad setup procedure. To get into the setup procedure on an iPad you must be able to use Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
If you want to "restore as new" and get fresh iOS software then, as far as I know, this can only be done with iTunes.

How to restore without losing playlists created manually

I assume I need to restore my iPod because I inadvertently locked the volume limit and can't unlock it. (I clicked on combination, which locked it automatically without giving me a chance to enter a combination).
So, my question is how to restore without losing the playlists as I have them, given that I manually synced each song individually from various iTunes playlists.

You can't restore an iPod without losing all the data stored on it.
It seems from your post that the playlists are still in iTunes, so after the restore you can just transfer them to the iPod once more.
If the playlists are no longer in iTunes (and solely on the iPod), and if you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.

Your profile claims Apple TV 2. 1080p is only available withe the Apple TV 3. Apple TV 2 is maxed out at 720p.

I have a new apple ID how do I get my new purchases to my normal itunes library

So I have a ipad and an ipod nano. I have always downloaded music on my ipad then synced my ipod to my pc. But i had to get and new apple ID. So when I got to sync my ipod. It does it with my old account. Ive tried deleting itunes and redownloading it but that didnt work. I need to some how completly reset itunes on my pc or somehow change my id on there. But i cant find a way to do it. Please help.

I'm not quite sure what is going on or what you need to accomplish. If it's asking you to authorize your computer, you'll need to do that with both your new Apple ID and your old one. Until you do, you will not be able to sync purchases from your iPad. You authorize the computer via the Store menu in iTunes. If you have iTunes 11, which for some unfathomable reason hides the menus by default, press Control-B and you'll then see the menus.
If that doesn't address your situation, please post back and clarify.

New apple TV - how do you stream if all your content is on a laptop?

I'm currently using the older Apple TV and have all my content on its hard drive. I want to upgrade to the new Apple TV for the Netflix feature. The problem is that all my content is on my Macbook Pro and I don't want to keep it on all day for streaming. I need access to all my iTunes music, photos and videos.
Is there any other solution aside from keeping the laptop open all the time? Is there any way to stream with the laptop on but the screen closed? Or is there any way to utilize my Apple router+external backup drive somehow?

A MacBook Pro can run with the screen closed without problems. Unlike the old iBooks, MacBooks do not vent significant heat through the keyboard. An MBP needs to have an external monitor, keyboard and mouse to run with the screen closed, though, which may make it impractical for you.

New Apple ID - how to sign out of iCloud to activate?

I have just purchased a new iMac and when setting up signed into iCloud using an existing account. As I have a new email address, I then went to apple.com and changed my apple ID successfully, which then threw up several error messages on the iMac from programs that were using it.
I then went to system preferences - iCloud which is still showing my old Apple ID and is asking me to verify my Apple ID password (which does not work with the new Apple ID)
Obviously I need to sign out and sign back in using my new Apple ID but when I hit the Sign Out button, after a minute or so of a "Signing out..." box appearing, Im getting an error message saying "Your iCloud account couldn't be removed at this time. Turn off all iCloud services and try again."
I have closed every application on the iMac, signed out of iTunes and App Store, what else is stopping me from signing out and logging back in using my new Apple ID?

Go to 'Settings' and 'Store' and then click on the 'Apple ID' and sign out and back in with your correct one.

Not sure which iOS you are using on the iPad but go to Settings>Store (or iTunes and App Stores in iOS 6)>Tap on your Apple ID and sign out. Then sign in with the new ID.
If you created a new ID - You will have to continue to use the old ID and password in order to update an apps that you bought with the old ID since apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them.
If you changed the email address that you use for your Apple ID, you should just be able to sign into the new one as described above.

Phone wiped, new Apple ID - How to transfer apps, etc.

I gave my daughter my iPhone a short time ago. She used my Apple ID to get apps, etc.
We are having problems with the phone now (Wifi not working) so I did a complete wipe on the phone, set up a new Apple ID for her and are setting the phone back up.
At this point, we cannot get any of the apps to sync or to update because iTunes is complaining that she did not purchase the Apps.
How can I transfer all the information from my old Apple ID to her new Apple ID?
I did try to edit the email address on the old Apple ID, but I've already created her new Apple ID and iTunes won't let me change it.

Apps are forever tied to the AppleID that purchased them. That's how the rightful owner is identified and theft is prevented.

This message means that someone was unable to sign in to this account multiple times. The Apple ID system will disable the account to prevent unauthorized people from gaining access to your information. You'll need to follow the instructions on My Apple ID to reset your password.
