HT202157 AppleTV 3rd Gen 5.1.1 update. Network dropout... help?

I have updated my aTV Gen3 to 5.1.1 and now it keeps dropping off the network... help?
I recently updated to iTunes 11, and was also prompted to update my aTV Gen3 to 5.1.1.
Almost immediately, i was having issues with dropping off the network etc. I tried to reset/ restore and the same problem arises; If iam lucky, I get to enter the Wifi details and turn on Home sharing. Which gives me approx 10mins of viewing time before the network drops out and I have to try again.
I can connect via ethernet direct, but it only shows me the computer content, not trailers etc.
I have had this setup working pre update for approx 3 months consistent use, and prior to that a 1st Gen aTV worked fine... I just wanted the 1080 HD option...
Any suggestions where i may be doing it wrong?

I've had similar issues with the latest updates (all Apple software up-to-date)... It's driving me frickin' insane.  I listen to one song and the connection to homesharing drops.  I've connected via ethernet cable to a d-link wireless router.
Anyway, on all my searches I came across this
http://mac-how-to.wonderhowto.com/how-to/fix-apple-tv-5-1-1-update-bug-0140598/
Reset the ATV and update using the wireless not the ethernet cable... my internet is way too slow to know if it'll work anytime soon, but I thought I'd share. If it works... let me know.  Maybe it will solve some misery.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

Why can't I see reviews for app updates on iPad 3rd gen since iOS 7 update?

AAfter an hour with Apple chat, I figured out what to do on my own.  When the iPhone and iPad go to autolock, press home key and do not open- streaming will be on the screen and I turned it back on.  No more stops.

  • Anyone else having trouble using Home Sharing on AppleTV (3rd Gen) on wired network?

First my setup:  I'm on a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro, D-Link DIR-615 Router, AppleTV (3rd Gen).
Problem: Couldn't connect to Home Sharing via the AppleTV.
I was having serious trouble getting Home Sharing working on my AppleTV (3rd Gen).  I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Tech Support.  Then, after forwarding the proper ports (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2463?viewlocale=en_US), spending another hour and a half with D-Link.  Then I even called my ISP.  Anyway, after A LOT of futzing around, I finally realized that Home Sharing is working on my iPhone (4S), so maybe it's a wifi thing.  I unplugged the ethernet cable from my AppleTV and connected it to my wireless network.  Keep in mind, same network, just now it's connected via a different channel (wireless now versus wired before).
Suddenly, works just fine, no issues at all.
What's going on?  Anyone have any idea?  My port forwarding is now not even set to the correct IP address of my AppleTV (was ...100 when it was wired, but on wifi it grabbed ...103).  It would be great to know what's going on.  Also, hopefully this helps someone else having the same problem.

Yesterday I bought Apple tv, and connected it on a free LAN port on my DLINK DIR-615.
All settings are ok , appleID en home sharing are set en activated but nothing shows...
The problem seems simular on yours. Tonight when I get home, i'll disconnect de LAN and try wireless....
We will see.  Thanks fot the hint

  • 3rd Gen iPod refusing to update

Ok, here's whats happened, any help would be most appreciated.
I have a 3Rd Gen Ipod, and after updating to iTunes 7, it got completely wiped of nearly 4000 songs. I tried to update it several times with iTunes and it basically refused to do anything, and kept freezing my computer, and coming up with the message "The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive I: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." Very frustrating
I have since restored it many times and retried updating, again no joy. I then formatted it via windows (twice now) on the advice from the nice lady on the Apple Tech Support line. And have even changed the drive letter from I to J.
Now at least it will let me add music to it, but it won't let me put any more than 1.22Gb onto it. If i try and put just one more song on it freezes and either comes up with "unknown error occured (-53) " or unknown error occured (-124)
Also i have tried various USB connections etc, but none of it has made a difference.
I'm a bit loathed to give Apple £170 for a service when i could just buy a new iPod for not much more. So does anyone have some advice re the above problem?

    bump....
sorry does anyone have any ideas?

  • Ethernet connectivity problem appleTV 3rd gen to airport extreme 5th gen

I have an airport extreme connected with Tivo via a Trendnet ethernet plugin adapter via electrical outlet, and it works fine.  When trying to connect my AppleTV 3rd gen to another ethernet port of airport extreme with another faster (85mbps) Trendnet ethernet adapter via a different electrical outlet, my extreme goes from green light to flashing amber light and my wifi stops working.  Only when I disconnect the ethernet and start using wifi for my appleTV, will the airport extreme start working again.  It's driving me nuts.
My setup is ethernet (no cable modem or DSL modem) with the ethernet cable that supplies internet to my house coming through a router device (I think it is?) that is plugged into my airport extreme.  However, I do have a double NAT setup as my ethernet service has its own NAT too.  I tried switching from DHCP and NAT on the airport extreme to bridging mode as recommended, but then my internet doesn't work and I get a flashing amber light.  So I went back to DHCP and NAT on my extreme and am ignoring the double NAT, and so the wifi works fine now.
I have done multiple hard resets of all devices involved including the appleTV, airport extreme (I have set up my network at least 10 times) and have unplugged my router device and disconnected the ethernet cable supplying internet to the house as well.  Nothing seems to work.  I called tech support, and originally thought that my 3rd ethernet port wasn't working, so they mailed me another unit, which doesn't work as well (in fact, I keep getting a message to unplug my cable or DSL modem or disconnect the battery pack to cycle it no matter what I do but that is for another time).
Would greatly appreciate any help.  Thanks.

When trying to connect my AppleTV 3rd gen to another ethernet port of airport extreme with another faster (85mbps) Trendnet ethernet adapter via a different electrical outlet, my extreme goes from green light to flashing amber light and my wifi stops working.
If the Apple TV was originally setup for WiFi, I suggest that you reset the device back to default settings and then configure it again with Ethernet plugged in. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Settings
As a test,  connect a spare Ethernet cable of any length (that you know is working) from the LAN <-> port on the AirPort Extreme to the Apple TV for the setup.
Setup the ATV again and double check to make sure that it is operating correctly
Change the location of the ATV back to the desired location on the network behind the powerline adapters
If you have a problem now, the first thing to check is the powerline adapter and or wiring

  • Ipod touch 3rd gen hang during software update

my ipod 3rd gen got hand during ios software update

Hang during restore process: Following Troubleshooting security software will frequently resolve this error. This error can be caused by the default packet size being set incorrectly. There may be third-party software installed that modifies the default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize or MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entry into the Registry. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance in adjusting this TcpWindowSize values. Typically the default packet size is modified by 3G cellular network card software, ISP communication software, or Internet speed download optimization software. There are legitimate reasons to change the TCP/IP packet size and not use the Windows default settings (for example, network traffic optimization, home/broadband optimization, Enterprise apps optimization such as database apps, Exchange, and more). Deleting the "TcpWindowSize" or "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" entries in Windows Registry could affect the system's performance with other apps or on their network connections. Deleting the customized TCP/IP settings may require the reinstallation of any third-party applications that had modified the TCP/IP settings from the Windows default settings. Follow the steps below to remove TcpWindowSize and MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entries from the Registry.
For Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: Go to the C:\\Windows folder and launch regedit.
    Go to Edit > Find.
Search for "TcpWindowSize" entries. There are typically multiple entries of TcpWindowSize/GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize spread throughout the entire Registry. If "TcpWindowSize" exists, one or more third-party applications have changed the user's default Windows settings for TCP/IP.
Go to File and select Export. This step will export a copy of the Registry that can be used as a backup of the original settings.
    Delete the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
Search for the next "TcpWindowSize" entry and delete each one until the Registry no longer has any "TcpWindowSize" entries.
Close Regedit, restart the PC, and test.
If you are uncertain as to why these registry entries exist and the PC is a business computer, contact your network administrator and determine what values TCP/IP can be set in their Windows Registry setting so that the PC can update or restore an iOS device rather than deleting the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
If editing the registry does not resolve the issue, restoring on a different computer that did not install the communication software is the step most likely to resolve this issue.

  • IPod Nano 3rd Gen Issues: would be grateful for any help

    Dear all,
I recently purchased an iPod Nano 3rd Gen for my wife. I have been using a mac for 7 years, still have my first iPod 5GB scroll wheel as well as a 60 GB iPod video 5.5 Gen.
    Here's what's happening.
iPod Nano connected via dock (which is in a USB hub...could that cause problems?)
    Connect, sync, no worries.
Update iPod Nano software to 1.0.2.
iPod then, halfway through syncing, flashes the Apple Logo every 6-7 secs and then does the same again.
It is not recognised in iTunes like that.
    Any help?
    A hopeful Dan

    Hi,
Same thing just happened to me - I have put the Nano 3G into disk mode (hold Menu and Select for 10 seconds then immediately hold Play/Pause and Select).
Just doing a factory restore now, that should bring it back to a brand new state and will try again from there.

  • 3rd gen not working in car!! Help please!!!

    Evening people,
I'm looking for some help with linking my 3rd gen ipod to my modular car stereo system in a Mazda MX 5 02 reg. I've purchased a lead to link it to the stereo...works fine with an ipod mini but is supposed to work with all ipods. Basically it advances tracks and fast forwards by using the controls on the existing car stereo.....like I say it works fine with the mini but when I fit the bigger version in, it'll only play through the speakers but won't advance. Any ideas? Trying to avoid the hassle of selling the ipod for a newer version......could it be that the mini doesn't have the 4 control buttons like the 30GB one?
I'm confused!!! Please help as it's driving me insane.

    Hi,
I mentioned the Field length as 10 in XSD.
And in syndicator if the text in the field is 30 in length, the output xml generates with 30 charecters...
So by this i can conclude that, it is not chopping as per rules in XSD.
Also i have fields of types such as String -Integer -Decimals in the XSD.
But when i load that XSD into MDM, i can see in syndicator that all the fields are of type Text (automatically..)..
So the Field type that you specify in the XSD is not shown/Active Once that xsd is loaded into MDM.
Does anyone disagree with this statement.
Note: I am aware that we can restrict the field length by mentioning the Field length in Console table-Field properties.
Also in the Syndication map -> Destination items -> Max Item Length..
What i am checking is, isit worth to add these Field lengths/Field types/Restrictions in xsd?
    Kind Regards
    Eva

  • 3rd gen iPod won't update or restore with iTunes 7

Ok, so my iPod has been kinda messed up for a while... it's getting a little older, and the battery is pretty much shot. During my last attempt at getting the iPod to sync with iTunes (a few weeks ago), I somehow managed to get it into disk mode, and I don't know how to undo it.
Ok so that's one problem, but I don't know if that's affecting my iPod now or not.
I have just recently--within the last couple of days--started trying again to fix my iPod. I've been looking at the support site, following any instructions I can find, and to no avail. Unfortunately, the time I decided to start working on my iPod was the same time the iTunes update came out, and from what I hear, people have been having many problems with iTunes 7 and iPod updater 2.0.
I hook my iPod up to my computer, iTunes recognizes it--which is an improvement over the last version of iTunes, which didn't know my iPod existed--and the first time, it tells me the iPod is corrupted and need to be updated or restored. So I hit ok, then click "restore." It goes through the motions of restoring, then tells me it has restored, that it will then restart, and then show up on the "sources" list in iTunes, but it never shows up. The iPod itself says "OK to disconnect," and shows NO sign of restarting. I disconnect and reconnect my iPod, and then iTunes tells me the iPod is in "recovery mode" and needs to be restored. Same deal. Says it's restoring but nada. Now it does that same thing everytime I connect it.
Is it just that my iPod is completely shot? Or is it because I'm trying to update it with a shotty version of iTunes? I'm stuck. Can someone PLEASE help me?!

Well, stopping the iPodservice didn't make any difference. Apparently the iPod is so shot that iPodservice wasn't doing anything anyway, so it formatted fine even with iPodservice running.
So here's the deal. I have been able to format my iPod. I've already done that. It's completely erased, formatted, redone, everything. But it will not restore in iTunes. Using iTunes 7, it shows up in the source list, but iTunes says it has found an iPod in recovery mode that needs to be restored. So then I click restore and it says it has restored, but it doesn't do anything. Just goes to an OK to disconnect screen. Unfortunately, I don't know if this is just an iTunes 7 issue or not, because my iPod doesn't even show up in any other version of iTunes.
I tried many different things... when I restart my iPod and it isn't connected, it goes to the Apple, but then it comes up with the folder and exclamation mark icon, while the disk is whirring away. When I restart it while it is connected, it restarts, and iTunes says the same thing about the iPod in recovery mode.
I tried putting the iPod into diagnostic mode, as is suggested in the intermediate steps in one of the posts, but because I can't even restart the iPod, I can't put it into diagnostic mode.
I even tried what appeared to be the miracle fix for everyone's iPods--hitting it on the desk on its upper right corner. No such luck. I think my iPod is shot... and I just realized how much it costs to send yours in and get a replacement refurbished iPod... It's just not worth it... but then again, it seems like it's probably not worth it to get a new iPod now, either, since none of the software seems to be working correctly, and since I seem to have bad luck with electronics... maybe I'll wait until Microsoft comes out with their new media player... I should definitely be looking into something other than an iPod, since they obviously suck right now.

  • AppleTv (3rd gen) not connecting either way?

Apple Tv won't connect to the Internet - neither ethernet nor wifi... How's that? (Of course the router's working - that's how I'm writing this...)
NOTE: after being disconnected the whole night IT DID connect, update, etc, then it all went away for no apparent reason, and I'm stuck again with the box not speaking to the net... And it also says "Activation failed" in the "about" section....
    I've run out of ideas...

Have you then tried going to Safari and look for a page that you have to acknowledge the terms and conditions to use the connection?
Next talk to the hotel staff.  Some free networks use Flash or Java and can't be used by iDevices.
