iPad requires Wifi (or 3G /LTE) to connect to the Internet. You cannot connect a USB modem to the iPad.
You can create your own WiFi hotspot through your computer for your iPad to connect to, if your computer supports this functionality. All Wifi Macs and many Wifi PCs do. Check your computer manual for how to do it.

  • Can you have two connections to database

I am running two java programs which access the same database. One runs forever, and keeps the same connection up. The other program, lets say does a simple update, but it stalls and will never do the update. If I kill the first programs connection, then the second program can do the update. I am using the jdbc thin client. Is there a way I can have these both run and not stall?

    The short answer is, yes.
There are two general approaches to the problem. The first approach is to use various locking, commit and rollback techniques. The basic premise is that if program A runs into a problem, the database drops A and reverts back to the previous state before responding to program B. This is highly dependent upon the database you're actually using, and probably beyond the scope of this forum.
The second approach is to code your programs with a philosophy of "get in, do it, get out" as quickly as possible. In other words, do NOT leave a database connection open if you can avoid it.
Essentially your program makes a connection, does a select query, copies the results into a data structure you define, and exits. Then you're free to play with the results as you see fit. When the time comes to do an update, you make the connection, perform the update, then immediately exit. If you need to test it, make another connection, do a select on that record, copy it, close the connection, then compare the copy with what you anticipate.
There is the added benefit that whenever you close the connection, most databases will then do whatever commits need to be done, and release any deadlocks that may be in place.
Your problem isn't really that your database cannot do two connections - its the fact that your database does not want to let two separate people make changes to the same table at the same time. There's an obvious reason for it and we can go into more detail if you want.
But essentially, if you do each transaction as quickly as possible, and let the database clean up after each transaction, you will avoid most, if not all of the problems you're experiencing.
Don't worry about the overhead of creating and closing connections. If it does become a problem, you can always use a "Connection Pool" (search for it on the forums if you want to know more). You just don't want to be in a position where the database is saying "I can't give you the info you want because I don't know if this other program is going to change any of it before giving control back to me."

    Yes.
They use around 6W when running and even less when asleep, so they don't consume a great deal.

  • Why can't my MacBook find my external hard drive through wireless network

I have a 1 TB Western Digital My Book Essential external hard drive connected to my AirPort Extreme. I've been using it with my MacBook via my wireless network (mainly for music and movies) now for about 2 years without any trouble. Recently my MacBook has been unable to find the HD, it gives me the following message "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "My Book 1TB HD" can't be found". If I reboot my entire system (fios router, AirPort Extreme, MacBook, and external HD) I can access it for a short period of time but then the same problem arises. What can I do to resolve this issue and/or figure out where the actual problem is?
    Thanks in advance!

The USB port on the AirPort Extreme has always been borderline as far as being able to provide sufficient power for a hard drive. It is not a high power port like  you would find on a computer.
If you have not been using a powered USB hub with the AirPort Extreme....it is possible that the power supply on the Extreme has aged a bit, and it no longer puts out quite as much power as before.
Try a powered USB hub, but check the store's return policy before you buy in case this is not the solution.
Atter the powered USB hub, I have no suggestions other than the obvious..... check/replace the USB cable from the hard drive to the USB port on the AirPort.
Also check using an Ethernet connection from your Mac to the AirPort Extreme...to eliminate the possibility of a wireless interference issue being the culprit.

  • Officejet 7500A Wide Format printer connects intermittently to computer through wireless network

I have a recently purchased Officejet 7500A printer that I would like to use wirelessly.  I have an Apple wireless router and am running Windows 7 on my computer.  The printer and computers individually connect to the network and there are no issues with the router.  The issue is with the connection between the computer and printer.  I can print things from my computer by emailing the file to the printer, but only sometimes does it work through directly printing from the software.  I have tried to scan from my computer and from the printer, but get the same error message from both that there is no communication between the printer and computer.  I suspect it is a firewall issue, but am not sure how to modify the settings to allow this communication to occur.  I have the windows firewall and have Advanced System Protector software, but have disabled the windows shield in that software.  Help?
    This question was solved.

So do you have multiple anti-virus systems installed on your PC (even if they are not all active)?  If so, this can certainly lead to bizarre behavior.
I would pick one system, uninstall others using their own unistallers (restarting the PC after every uninstall).
With the one you chose to have  on your system, make sure it is updated to the latest rev.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How can I implement the connection pool in my java stored procedure

my java stored procedures (in database 'B') have to connect to another oracle database ,let's say 'A'. And how can I implement the behavior like the so-called connection pool in my java stored procedure in 'B', as below.
    1. database B, has 2 java stored procedures sp1 and sp2
    2. both sp1 and sp2 connects to databse 'A'
whatever I call the sp1 and sp2 and the database 'A' always only one connected session from sp1 and sp2 in database 'B'.
    THANKS A LOTS...

my problem is I have a lots of java stored procedures need to cnnect to the remote oracle db, and I hope the remote db can only have a connected session from my java stored procedures in my local db. I try as below
    class sp{
static Connection conn=null; //the remote db connection,
public static void sp1(){...}//procedure 1, using conn
    public static void sp2(){...}//procedure 2, using conn,too
I can 'see' the 'conn' variable if I invoke the sp1() and sp2() from the same client application(maybe sqlplus). But if I invoke the sp1() from client 'A' and invoke sp2() from client 'B' then the sp1() and sp2() can not see the 'conn' variable for each other. I think it's because the two clients cause oracle to create two instances of the class 'sp' and the sp1() and sp2() located in different instance seperately. Thus the sp1() and sp2() can not see 'conn' for each other. They can only see its own 'conn'.
To connect to the remote db from the java stored procedure is easy but is it possible to connect to the remote db via database link from the java stored procedure at my local db ? If so, then I also archive my goal .
    BTW , thanks a lots...
    andrew :-)

  • My appletv the light is just blinking and the imga says that I have to connect a cable tio itunes, what can I do?

My appletv the light is just blinking and the image says that I have to connect a cable to itunes, what can I do?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'd be inclined to do exactly what it's telling you to do.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

No, if you have that picture it means the update went wrong and you need to restore via iTunes.

  • Using ipad2 and airplay with appleTV; can I have the ipad2 on wifi and the AppleTV on a wired port of the same router in order to use airplay?

can I have the ipad2 on wifi and the AppleTV on a wired port of the same router in order to use airplay?

I belive you can, I think my friends Apple TV is connected to their internet via an Ethernet cable, and we use Airplay sometimes using our iPads that are connected to the same network via WiFi. It should work as long as they are both connected to the same network. However, I don't have an Apple TV of my own, so don't take this as a solid answer.

  • AppleTV connected to Mac Pro by 802.11n,  G5 on Ethernet can't see AppleTV

I hope someone can answer this one... In my house, I have an Apple Airport Extreme base station set up and broadcasting an open 802.11n (b and g compatible) wireless network. Connected to that network is my Mac Pro, which can see my AppleTV, and is set as its main source. Just to be clear, the AppleTV is connecting to the Airport Extreme base station, and NOT directly to my Mac Pro, by some kind of ad-hoc network.
My wife has a Power Mac G5, which is connected to the same Airport Extreme base station, via Ethernet, and it cannot see the AppleTV. I have iTunes 7.1.1 and Quicktime 7.1.5 installed, and I have iTunes set to search for AppleTV units, but no Apple TV is ever displayed by her iTunes.
I have the firewall on the PowerMac shut off, and have even tried messing with the Ethernet connection speed settings in Network System Prefs.
Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Does anybody have any good advice on how to fix it? I have done everything short of reset my AppleTV and Airport Extreme, and I really don't want to have to do that, then set my network back up.
    Thanx!

So, you're saying that the AppleTV will only ever appear in the list of available AppleTV devices on the initial host copy of iTunes?!Yes, once the "host" is selected. However, according to another poster, it should appear in the list of all LAN connected platforms when you initiate the "Connect to New Itunes" action and then disappear from non-selected iTunes lists once a selection is made.
If so, how do you add additional sources.Normally as explained previously. However, this assumes your wife's connection to the LAN was properly made. Can, for instance, the TV device see her computer as a "streaming" source?
I go through the 'Connect to New iTunes' option, and the authentication number appears on my TV screen, but nothing ever indicates that my wife's Power Mac has recognized the AppleTV, or vice versa. If the device doesn't show up in her iTunes at this point, I would likely try turning off the Airport card in your Mac Pro and see if this makes a difference. (I assume here that when you say the TV is connected to your mac Pro via the Airport Extreme, you mean wirelessly and not via an ether connection between extreme and TV since anything plugged into the TV ether connector would override any wireless connection attempts. (As a double check, you can look at your Settings > Network page on the TV.) Since I only have one computer/TV combination and it is such a pain switching back and forth between wired and wireless connections, I just leave mine connected by a Cat 6 cable I already had. Basically, everyone on your LAN needs to connect wirelessly or everyone nees to connect wired since you can't mix connections to the TV. In any case, if you cannot see/connect her computer with TV when yours is "disconnected," then would concentrate efforts here as it would appear she has a network problem.

  • How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)?

How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)? Currently each of us has our own iTunes account, so I've made an "all office" Apple ID. However, I can't seem to get two different accounts (my personal and the office) to work on my machine. Even when I login as "the office", my personal library is still showing. Additionally, when I try to setup with a first-time use in iTunes, I get an error that I don't meet the minimum age requirement - no matter what birthdate I enter!

The library exists regardless of which user is logged in.
The only way around that is to create different user accounts on the computer.
There is no way to have 20 unique iTunes users access a shared iTunes under a single login on the computer.

  • My LCD screen burned out. I have it connected to a tv now, but can't get the menu bar or the function bars to show up. Please help!

My LCD Screen burned out, but the computer still works. I currently have it connected to an HDTV via, Mini DVI to VGA, VGA to VGA on the tv. Problem is, I can't get the function bar (maybe not the right term) or the bar at the bottom with all my programs on it. I get my screen saver and have managed to drag (by sheer luck since I can't see anything on my iMac screen) some of my pics I had on my desktop over, but nothing else. Please help!

    Hello
you should have on your key board "mirroring key" , or F7 on old keyboard
for now your tv is an extended screen for your imac not a miror , so you can not see menue barre on top of screen
