HT202159 Can't restart download

I have purchased an app, and during the download something happened that stopped the download. I followed the instruction and went to "purchase" to restart the download, but again the only help I get is to go back to "purchase" and restart.
I have done this several times now, and I am stuck in a circle where I keep getting the same respons, but no download.
Please help me out of this circle?

Thanks for the help. However I don't think it is any firewall or anti-viral software, since I have changed any of these and I have in the past purchased apps without any issues.
I seems like there is some "residual" of the first download attempt, that is stopping any further download. The first time I downloaded the app, it was stopped by a reboot of the network. When I logged in again, I continued the download but now it kept suggesting that I went to "purchase" and downloaded the app again. It is this loop that I am now stuck in, and the only help Apple can offer, is to the same thing again.... and that is frustrating!

  • Can't upgrade, can't restart downloads

I made the apparently monumental mistake of trying to download the free "Watchmen" comics on iTunes (ew.com/watchmen). I'm on a slow landline, and it's a big file, but I've done this before with no problems. Let it run, pause the download if I'm leaving or need the phone, hit the "resume" button and let it finish. (I've even downloaded digital box sets before, with no problems; the Smashing Pumpkins box took about a week, starting it up when I came home from work, pausing it at bedtime. No problems with the service at all until now.) The Watchmen comics were downloading fine, and then I had to do the stop/start thing. And it won't let me restart. After downloading 60MB, it's now decided that I can't download this because it's a video file and I need the newest version. So I click on the "free upgrade" button. And nothing happens. So I try going to apple.com, following all the procedures there, same result. Clicking on "report a problem" on my account summary page or "itunes service and support" on the Help menu both also do absolutely nothing. No error report, no red stopsign pop-up blocker errors, just nothing. The link is there, but it won't work.
But that's not the bad part. The partially downloaded Watchmen has vanished from my account -- it's not in the "Downloads" section of the store, it doesn't show up in my account history page, it was listed as a TV program, but doesn't show up in the "TV" section of iTunes. It was a free download, so it should be no trouble at all to right-click and delete it... except it no longer exists, and yet, every time I'm on, iTunes tells me that an item in my download queue requires an upgrade. It thinks this comic is still there, it's still trying to restart the download, and I have no way to stop it. Worse, some songs that I purchased and had to pause today are now behind this invisible download, and it won't finish them, either. When I try to restart the two songs, I get the "upgrade" error about five times (five errors for one free download?), then I get "error = 8003" for the two songs, also about five times each. Then it just stops everything and refuses to let me do anything.
I've surfed around here a bit, and it seems like everyone is having problems with the newest upgrade; not sure I even want that, but I really have to get rid of this video comic book that is stalling the program out. HOW can I get this thing off my account? Any help largely appreciated...
    Chris

If you'd like to pursue getting your iTunes updated I would suggest going directly to www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and downloading the installer file, and the installing the update right over what is currently on your PC.
If you would rather not update iTunes you can email iTunes Store customer service and request that they take the item out of your download queue so that it does not continuously try to download for you.

I am renting a movie via itunes to Apple TV and accidently stopped the download, I cant see where to restart download. I have tried to check it out in Settings but cant get any info in regards to "check for rentals"
There must be a way i can view the download and determine how long and re-start the process.

Once you've pressed 'buy' you will have been charged, whether or not you then download it. All purchases are considered final, but you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they will give you a credit/refund : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Express Lane, then iTunes > iTunes Store

    Hi aaronvilla,
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your iTunes Store purchase.   The following information should help you with this:

ok so the download problem with my iphone.. what could be the cause of that? ive restarted and deleted the "undownloaded app" over 10 times already. and restarted the iphone 10 times... next thing i know i cant install itunes on my laptop.... geez man..
obviously there is a fix which someone will help... but why should i have to go through all that crap to install a so called uncomplicated software... when you think about it this really shouldnt even be an issue.
normally if the thing dosent work. normally with most programs you just uninstall the uncompleted software and just reinstall and everything is usually good to go.. help!

  • Can't open downloaded files

Help! I can't open downloads from the internet or e-mail in preview. It seems to be happening with both pdfs and jpegs. It just started yesterday, and I'm not sure why. It gives me a message stating that the file may be corrupted or the wrong file type. The file type is not wrong, and it says this for files from any source even trusted ones. Any help is much appreciated!!

    HI,
Assuming you are using Safari... try maintenance.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons then cick Reset.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache.
    Quit Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
    • Downloads.plist
    • History.plist
    • LastSession.plist
    Restart Safari.

  • Why can't I download itunes 10.5 and why has it been like this for days and apple hasn't fixed it yet?

I have tried multiple times to download itunes on my pc with windows 7. At this point I am incredibly frustrated and have come to the conclusion that a) apple so doesn't care about the pc users that purchase their products b) itunes is apparently not meant to be user friendly since many people can't even download it and c) the people employed by apple aren't that bright since that can't make a working version of a program that they have put out not once or twice but over 10 times...

    Hi there,
I had the same experience. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Edition, 32 bit.
I tried to install iTunes 10.5 and it started installing, then, just before the end of the process, came up with the following error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Of course, no information on what the program that couldn't be run was! At first I tried the usual stuff, like scanning for viruses etc. but nothing doing. Then I started Googling. In the end, I uninstalled all Apple stuff from my computer. A lot of it I had to do manually, going in to the program files drive and deleting stuff from there, but some of it wouldn't delete as it was saying it was open in Windows Explorer. In the end, I managed to delete the iTunes folders by selecting one of my mp3 tracks saved on the computer and right clicking 'open with'. I then browsed my pc to locate the iTunes folders still outstanding and was able to right click and delete them that way.
Then emptied the recycle bin and did a restart before going online and downloading iTunes 10.5.
Thankfully it worked, but its taken me a good few hours and made me really quite tetchy! I've never had this problem before, so I hope this is going to be a one off.
One thing that doesn't seem to be working is that, despite how many times I tell it that my preference is for the iTunes Media folder to be located on my external hard drive, it keeps putting it back to the C drive! Didn't have that issue with the last version. Grrrrrr. Arrrrgggh.
Hope you manage to get yours sorted - this is affecting a lot of people by the look of things.

  • TS3991 "Document can't be downloaded."

I can "see" documents in iCloud but can neither open them in Pages ('09) nor download them.  I get the following message: "Document can't be downloaded. Please try again."  I am using 10.8.3 on a Macbook Air, and some of the documents were created on a Mac Pro.
I have tried going to System Preferences and unticking/re-ticking Documents and Data (and I have done so with a restart in between, as well).
    Any ideas?

If this has been occurring for some time it may well be that you have some corrupt documents stopping everything working. It may well be that you can identify and eliminate these documents, but I suspect it would be simpler and less time consuming to remove all your documents and start again.
Save as many documents as you can to your desktop from iCloud.com or from the iCloud document panel in the appropriate Applications.
Any documents that are only available on other devices may be able to be saved using my user tip.
Turn off document syncing on every device.
On your mobile devices make sure document syncing is turned off not only in the iCloud settings, but also in the settings for each app.
Check the apps on your mobile devices no longer have any documents in them. (Removing and reinstalling the iWorks apps on your devices may be useful)
On your computer go to system preferences > iCloud > manage and delete any documents you see in your iCloud storage.
    Restart all devices.
Re-enable document syncing device by device, ensuring that syncing is working properly before re-enabling syncing on the next device.

  • HT1725 whenever i download larger apps i.e 100mb, after download is completed, instead of processing it just restarts downloading

You can automatically save downloads without seeing the Open/Save/Cancel dialog in the Options:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > General > "Saves files to"
However, I can't think of a way to have the Open/Save/Cancel dialog always default to Save. I think mine suggests whatever I did last for the same type of content, but I haven't paid close attention.
I'm out of time to address the problem with "do this automatically" but there is one suggestion for why it could be grayed out in this article: [[Change what Firefox does when you click on or download a file]].
Is it possible you had a download-related extension before? To compare settings and extensions, please retain the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. Aside from checking the extensions in there, it would be interesting to run a text file comparison on your currently active prefs.js file and your old one in that folder.

  • HT202159 I have partially downloaded OS X Mountain Lion ...

I have partially downloaded OS X Mountain Lion. I lost my internet connection and my download stopped. I put my computer to sleep and took it somewhere else with a different connection to finish the download. Where I am, internet isn't very fast and so a download requires me to leave it on overnight . I got 3GB out of the 4GB the way there when this happened so I'd really like to avoid starting this over again.
When I go to purchases on the Mac App Store it says "An error has occurred" with a blank grey box next to it, and clicking it does nothing. Clicking "Check for unfinished downloads" also does nothing. Clicking "buy app" and it tells me I can download the app for free, and then it just hangs and nothing happens.
Is there a way to find the partially downloaded file on my Mac and restart where I left off?

Same issue.  I went into Activity Monitor and killed the stalled process.  When I restarted App Store, the download started from scratch.  I assumed that my earlier download had been overwritten, and sure enough, it had been.  I followed these instructions to reveal the temp directory:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57480536-263/tackling-mountain-lion-downloa d-errors/
There was only one file in there (mzm.whodaifs.pkg), and it's the same size as currently indicated by the App Store progress bar.  No 2.5GB file in sight.  At least that's not going to sit around taking up HD space.
I've come across this other method for restarting downloads:
    http://www.ryanragle.com/index.php?/site/comments/where-does-the-mac-app-store-d ownload-temp-files-to
Though it's now a moot question, I might try the debug menu method if it happens again.
