HT202159 I have partially downloaded OS X Mountain Lion ...

I have partially downloaded OS X Mountain Lion. I lost my internet connection and my download stopped. I put my computer to sleep and took it somewhere else with a different connection to finish the download. Where I am, internet isn't very fast and so a download requires me to leave it on overnight . I got 3GB out of the 4GB the way there when this happened so I'd really like to avoid starting this over again.
When I go to purchases on the Mac App Store it says "An error has occurred" with a blank grey box next to it, and clicking it does nothing. Clicking "Check for unfinished downloads" also does nothing. Clicking "buy app" and it tells me I can download the app for free, and then it just hangs and nothing happens.
Is there a way to find the partially downloaded file on my Mac and restart where I left off?

Same issue.  I went into Activity Monitor and killed the stalled process.  When I restarted App Store, the download started from scratch.  I assumed that my earlier download had been overwritten, and sure enough, it had been.  I followed these instructions to reveal the temp directory:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57480536-263/tackling-mountain-lion-downloa d-errors/
There was only one file in there (mzm.whodaifs.pkg), and it's the same size as currently indicated by the App Store progress bar.  No 2.5GB file in sight.  At least that's not going to sit around taking up HD space.
I've come across this other method for restarting downloads:
http://www.ryanragle.com/index.php?/site/comments/where-does-the-mac-app-store-d ownload-temp-files-to
Though it's now a moot question, I might try the debug menu method if it happens again.

  • I have recently downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my new MacBook Air.

I have recently downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my new MacBook Air.   I have Safari 6.0.  I no longer see the "Empty Cache" option on the Safari drop down menu.  Where did it go?  How can I recover it?
    Gloria

    Safari 6
Mountain Lion comes with Safari 6.
Apple removed "Empty Caches" from Safari menu.
    1. Now clearing history clears caches and favicons.
    2. Enable Develop menu.
         Safari > Preferences > Advanced
At the bottom check the box "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in menu bar.
Click Develop and from the dropdown select "Empty Caches".
    Best.

The Mt Lion installer deletes itself from your Apps folder when it has finished the installation. It is available to download again should you ever need it, such as to install on one of your other qualifying Macs. You don't have to continue to download it and install, it's installed.
Is there something else going on?

  • HT1349 MY SERIAL NUMBER IS ALREADY CLAIMED BUT I HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED OS X MOUNTAIN LION.

I believe the person who was helping me at the store requested for me a download of the operating system but may have located me as in the United States (I do not know if that makes a difference). Either way I never got the confirmation email and I never downloaded OS X Mountain Lion.
Assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

-Create a bootable install drive for OS X Mountain Lion on USB
-restart and hold cmd + r to access the menu
The issue here is that command-R starts up the machine from the recovery partition, not from whatever bootable install disk you created. So you have to download the system. If you want to start up from the bootable install disk, hold down the option key at startup, with the disk connected.

I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have iLife anymore. How do I get it back?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

I have downloaded OS X Mountain Lion from the App Store. It took two hours to download but now its not running and I have no idea how to make it run!
Download was complete and I accepted everything and restarted computer but its still running 10.7.5
Any idea how to get OS X Mountain Lion to run?

What you donwloaded was the OS installer. You still have to do the installation.
To get started, double click on the download, then double click again and follow instructions.

  • I have just purchased os x mountain lion on the app store. how can i see if it is downloading

I have just purchased os x mountain lion from teh app store. how can i see if it is downloading correctly and how long should it take?

If you click on Purchases icon in the toolbar you should find it listed with your purchases. There should be a progress bar showing.
The file is over 4  GBs. How long it takes depends on your internet service speed.

    Disable anti virus software.
Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion as well as third party download managers.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

Make sure you read the system requirements. Also install Rosetta if you want Power PC applications to run.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.

I HAVE A I MAC WITH MOUNTAIN LION BUT WHEN I DOWNLOAD MAVERICKS ALL STAR GOING BAD AND RIGTH NOW THE COMPUTER DOESNT START I AM **** UP HOW CAN RESTORE MY ORIGINAL OS LION MOUNTINE.
OR WHAT CAN I DO TO RESTORE MY COMPUTER THERE IS A LOT INFORMATION THERE WHY MAVERICKS IS TROUBLESHOOTING.

Don't post in all caps.  Besides being more difficult to read it's tantamount to shouting and is considered rude in forums.  What problems are you having? What model Mac do you have, how much RAM and free space on the boot drive?
Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and try the following in order as needed:
1 - select Disk Utility and repair both the disk and disk permissions.  Reboot normally.
2 - reinstall the Mavericks system.

  • Ever since I downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac, the Safari won't often (most of the time) and I have to restart to open a web page.  What is going on?  What can I do?

Ever since I downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac, the Safari won't open.  It loads half way and then stops.  Same thing happens when we try to open a web page.  If I restart the computer, it will then work.  What is going on?  What can I do?  Help!

It will but it's only a temporary fix, ideally you should get a large external drive and move your photo library to it, do this (info)
Apple Menu>About This Mac>More Info>Storage, you will get a graphic that looks like the one below, post it here.
