-  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
-  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
-  Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.
For downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is Gstrongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Keep in mind, If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband (high speed) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.
Mountain Lion is a 4.34GB file. If you are using a slow internet connection, the download may be timing out before it can finish. Your ISP determines your download speeds. Check with your ISP for upgrade options.
According to Step 1 here >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
Your iMac should be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Have you tried Check for Unfinished Downloads from the App Store > Store menu?

  • HT1338 Mountain Lion "An error has occurred"

Running 10.7.4. Plenty of RAM available. No other downloads waiting. Mountain Lion purchased (receipt kept). MacBook plugged in. Stable wireless connection. About 4 seconds into installing ML, it stops. Just...stops. Visit to the App Store to check downloads. See the cute yet fierce Lion logo. Next to it, see "An error has occurred". The Click to Install box is blacked out. Back to the Lion purchase page where I am asked if I want to pay £13.99 to Install Mountain Lion. Again.
And there it sits in my downlaods pages, about as useless as a large piece of mucous on my screen.
    Please? Anyone?
Again, I have no Applications waiting to Dowlnoad, sufficient RAM and all the other stuff I presumably would need. Except patience, which I'm running out of.

Disable the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Disable anti virus software before downloading apps.
Apps such as Little Snitch can prevent files from downloading the App Store.
Your Mac must be one of the following models to install Mountain Lion.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
From here >   Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If nothing above applies to your situation, reinstall the App Store by downloading and installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
    Then restart your Mac.
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.4

  • Download Mountain Lion an error has occured

I have a MBP early 2008 with 4GB Memory and 30GB free disk space.
So I know I can upgrade.
I have purchased Mountain Lion in the appstore but it will not download.
The download starts and gets to 79.34MB and then gives an error:
    "an error has occured"
I have tried deleteing the appstore cache, logging out and quiting the appstore and then starting the appstore and logging back in, but none of it has helped.
Everytime it fails at exactly 79.34MB.
It is driving me mad, I hope someone can help.

  • Cannot download Mountain Lion- "an error has occurred"

When I attempt to download Mountain Lion it gets to about 79MB, stops, and I get the following, "an error has occurred." No explanation of any kind. This was over Wifi, but I also tried using ethernet. Same result. This same thing happened when I updated to Lion. The same thing happens when trying to download using my laptop. The only way I was able to get LIon is to take my laptop to the library and download from there and transfer it to my iMac.  I really don't want to do the same thing for Mountain Lion. Here is my setup:
    iMac8,1 model ID
Wifi router  - Qwest 2Wire (over 5 years old)
Currently using latest version of Mac OS Lion

I talked with my service provider (Qwest/Centurylink) and through some persistance they admitted that my 2wire router/modem (about 5-6 years old) has a 2GB file download cap on it. My solution was to buy a new router and modem. After that I was able to download Mountain Lion just fine. Hope this helps.

  • HT202159 OSX Mountain Lion download problems

    Hello,
I have been trying to download OSX Mountain Lion from the appstore on my 10.6.8 mac mini but the file stops downloading after about 10mb. I was able to download 10.7 without any problems but I am not able to downlaod 10.8 on either of my two machines. Both stop at about 10mb. Anyone seen this or have any possible solutions?
    Thanks!
    Travis

I have seen this, unfortunately there are 100 & 1 different things that can cause this. If you want to trouble shoot, let's power-cycle both your modem and router and see how that goes.

  • HT202159 Whilst downloading mountain lion - I get in red "An error has occurred" and no ability to resume the download - amy ideas?

I am trying to download mountain lion on to a mac pro but the message I get is just an error has occurred. any suggestions are very welcome.

I was having this problem - I assumed it was the Apple server being overloaded, so I just kept retrying over the last couple of days.  All my apps were upto date, so was Software Update.  i tried logging out of the App Store, restarting and so on.  No joy.
Anyway, eventually I did this, and it seems to have solved the problem.
Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
    Quit the App Store
In Finder - Go>Go to folder...  (or Apple-shift-G)
    Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore"
It will take you to a folder.  Delete the whole folder and empty the trash.
Launch the App Store.  Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy.  It won't charge you again.  It then started downloading.  I'm currently 5% downloaded - but I never got this far before.
    Hope this helps!
