HT202159 OSX Mountain Lion download problems

Hello,
I have been trying to download OSX Mountain Lion from the appstore on my 10.6.8 mac mini but the file stops downloading after about 10mb. I was able to download 10.7 without any problems but I am not able to downlaod 10.8 on either of my two machines. Both stop at about 10mb. Anyone seen this or have any possible solutions?
Thanks!
Travis

I have seen this, unfortunately there are 100 & 1 different things that can cause this. If you want to trouble shoot, let's power-cycle both your modem and router and see how that goes.

  • Mountain Lion download problems with Lion 10.7.5 (no VirusBarrier issue)

I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro. From the factory it came with Snow Leopard but has since been upgraded to Lion OS X 10.7.5. I do not have VirusBarrier, I am writing from a recently clean-installed Lion.
I have now been troubleshooting my Mac for several days. When I wrote first, I had an issue with Safari having been damaged and so I wasn't able to reinstall Lion - but after a certain extremely helpful community member I finally succeeded in installing Lion.
But the issues with the App Store still persist. All my Mountain Lion downloads fail, getting the error message "can't verify, might be corrupted" what many here have also been getting. However, most solutions were related to VirusBarrier (which I don't have), or /var/folders errors (Console does not show any var-related errors).
So if it's not a var-related issue, or related to firewalls or virus softwares (I have disabled the Firewall and I have no virus software installed), what could it be?
When the download and install of ML failed last time, Console showed the following messages:
    11/30/12 11:54:44.617 AM com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right 'system.install.app-store-software' by client '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PackageKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/in stalld' [235] for authorization created by '/System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app' [567]

It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading.}
...and a bit later, upon re-starting the download:
    11/30/12 12:29:40.515 PM com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right 'system.install.apple-software' by client '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PackageKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/in stalld' [817] for authorization created by '/Applications/App Store.app' [781]

    Problem elimination:
    * I don't think this is a router-related issue: I have downloaded and installed other softwares outside App Store successfully
    * As said, I don't think this has anything to do with Firewall or Virus settings
    * Nor has this anything to do with /var/folders as far as I can tell
    What I've tried so far:
    * Repaired disk permissions several times
    * Rebooted
    * Restarted App Store
    * Following one advise found on the net, I deleted preflight.pfpkg just in case
    * All the time I have made sure my OS has the most recent Software Updates installed (most of them downloaded successfully, while with Safari and OS 10.7.5. I had to try several times before they were downloaded succesfully)
I just reinstalled my OS X Lion, only to use it to jump on to Mountain Lion - so I am pending my migration until ML is installed. I would like to fix this soon, since I'd like to get the migration done and my real work started. I would really appreciate your help.
I'm not very adept at using Console or Terminal to troubleshoot, so if someone could guide me through the problem identification, that would be great. Unless someone already knows exactly what's going wrong and can show me a working solution - that'd save my day!
    Thanks!

In cases like this, if you have an Apple store near by, they will most likely install the OS free of charge for you, if you can't bring your Apple ID along to prove you've paid for it.
Would that work out for you?

  • HT203421 unfinished osx mountain lion download cannot be located on my mac

Started downloading osx mountain lion from appstore and got to 4.1G of 4.4G before interruption. No icon found when accessing app store's interrupted purchases and no evidence of the downloaded portion on my Macbook pro. New download started when I re-accessed app stores: 1) Am i going to get billed a second time ?and 2) what happened to the almost completed initial download?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    1. When you purchase OS X Mountain Lion, you can install it as many times as you need in all your Macs for free.
    2. If your Internet connection was interrupted and you didn't pause the download or you restarted or shut down your Mac, the download is gone. You have to download Mountain Lion again from the Mac App Store. In order to not lose it, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and copy the Mountain Lion installer to another folder like Documents, so you won't have to redownload Mountain Lion anymore

  • HT202159 osx mountain lion an error has occurred

i cant download osx mountain lion it gets part way and then reports an error has occurred.....my imac is mid 2007 so is supposed to be able to be updated....i have been charged but cannot update.....!! help appreciated (ive tried to download 7 times now....

    -  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
    -  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
    -  Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.
For downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is Gstrongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Keep in mind, If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband (high speed) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.
Mountain Lion is a 4.34GB file. If you are using a slow internet connection, the download may be timing out before it can finish. Your ISP determines your download speeds. Check with your ISP for upgrade options.
According to Step 1 here >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
Your iMac should be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

  • HT1338 Mountain Lion download problems

Tried to get Mountain Lion download/install on my computer.  Got message "An error has occured" so can't download.  Computer is up to date with plenty of space.

Went to Genius Bar.  Solved my problem but I'm not sure how helpful.  He ran some diagnostics (hardware diagnostic progeam; Mac Disk Utility for Hard Drive Verication and repair.  Don't think he found much wrong.  Then, he went for download on their connection, which worked just fine.  He explained it was because of the extremely fast download connection.  So, I guess you have to get your Mac to somewhere with a super-fast connection (Apple store, but also our local libraries have a very fast connection) for download.
That's all for this problem, as far as I can tell.  Over and out.

  • Why isnt osx mountain lion downloading

I bought a Mac App store card for 20 dollars downloaded osx mountain lion. but now its just stuck it only downloads a tiny lil bit then stops. Please help

Depending on your connection speed, it could take anywhere from 1-8 hours to download.  It's a 4GB download.
On the average 3Mbps home network connection, it will take 3-4 hours to download.

  • HT202159 Mountain Lion download problems

I have tired to download Mountain Lion twice.  The first time the download just froze.  The second time, in the App Store 'purchases' secetion, place of the "RESUME" tab, it says "An error has occurred".  I have the option to BUY the app again, but am afraid of getting charged again.  What can I do?

    It is a BIG problem....
I am trying to download it, but is becoming a undesireble thing.
Once, it gets an error, or it says that the file is corrupted, or it says that and I have to log in and it starts all over again from the begging.
    What a huge BUG.
Apple should try to correct this

  • Mountain Lion download problem

I have been trying to download Mountain Lion for about 5 hours now and I keep getting errors saying the download cannot be completed. The last error I recieved was The download could not be completed becasue of a Hash Mismatch Error.
A download of about 4GB of data on my Internet Connection would usually take about 1 hour.
If I do get to succesfully download the Installer will the Installation begin automatically or is it started manually. I would prefer manually so I can make a backup copy first.

    I am on a Late 2011 13' Macbook Pro, OsX 10.7.5

Contacted Apple Store Tech support requesting a solution. I received a reply from a gentleman telling me his area of expertise and that this problems didn't fit in his area of expertise and suggested I look on online forums and the like for a solution!!
All I have found out is this is a very common problem
Thanks for http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact.html?form=account. Have not received a reply from Apple after 48 Hours.
    I have tried:
Logging out and back onto the Online Store
Deleting the Apple Store cache on my HD
Connecting via an Ethernet cable instead of WI-FI
Using my iPhone 3G Data, teathered
Connecting via a totally different network
    Restarting, restarting, restarting...
Nothing has worked. And still no solutions from Apple. I kinda of thought they might have suggested I go into a real Apple store and have them put a copy on my Mac or something.

  • OSX Mountain Lion download Spanish - English

I live in Spain and bought Mountain Lion to upgrade Snow Loepard online via the Spanish App Mac Store.
They emailed me the licence agrremenet and codes to download.
My Aple user ID is English and when I try to see my purchases in the Spanish App Store to download it says that it's not possible wiht my ID (although I was able to purchase it without a problem on the Spanish App Mac store) and tranfers me to the English version of App Store which says I have 'no purchased apps'.
There are also no downloadable versions on the Apple Mac store website as they only have Mavericks availabe to download.
    Can anyone help please?

    There's been a development.
I managed to redeem my order in the App store after changing my ID to Spain.
First problem is they have sent me Lion when I ordered Mountain Lion. And I am bloody sure it was mountain Lion, why would I buy Lion for the same price??? I distinctly remember the picture so no idea how this has happened but it's very frustrating.
Second problem, it's in my 'purchases' but when you try and click on it, it trys to download then nothing happens. When you click on the item it says not currently available in the Apple store Espana!
I would love a refund but fear this could be even more complicated or impossible.
They have already taken the money out of my bank account.
I'm worried about trying to buy it again in case the exact same thing happens.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Mountain Lion Downloading Problem!

Mountain Lion is not downloading.I dont know whats the problem, the internets working perfectly fine but the downloading bar is absolutely stationary.Anyone facng similar issue? Help please!

When I install OS X Mountain Lion this is the error I get: This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. - Delete this copy of the application, and go to the Purchases page of the Mac App Store to download a new copy.
This is a free upgrade with my purchase of the new rMBP.
I deleted it completely, even from the Trash. I also cleaned my Mac.
When I try to download it from the app store the error shows: The application could not be downloaded. - The installation could not be started. But it's not in the trash anymore. It's totally gone... What else could be the problem?
What should I do? Please help... Thanks.

  • OSX Mountain Lion download not included on MBPr 15"?

    Hello everybody!
I have a Macbook pro retina 15" and just accidently bought mountain lion via appstore beacuse a thought it was free as my macbook was shipped with mountain lion. I was not logged in on my account so the buy button did say the price, I just assumed it should be free as I already have it on my mac so i pressed it and logged in on my account to proceed the download, I got a receipt of it today.
should it be this way? I just wanted to make and USB bakup of the OS for future needs. It's not alot of money, I just think it is a bit wierd.

Since your system came with Mountain Lion pre-installed you wouldn't use the App Store version as your pre-installed version is specific to that machine.
To get the InstallESD.dmg file for your version of ML you need to redownload it using the following steps:
Restart using Command+R into the Recovery HD.
Plug in an external USB drive with at least 20GB.
From the OS X Utilities menu select Reinstall OS X.
Follow the prompts and make sure you point to the external USB drive to install to.
IMPORTANT: You need to keep an eye on the download and as soon as it finishes and restarts your system (at the black screen), UNPLUG the external USB drive.
After you system restarts and you get to your Desktop, plug the external USB drive into your system and navigate to a folder name something like "OS X Install Data Files". Inside there you will find the InstallESD.dmg file.
Copy the InstallESD.dmg file to your Desktop.
Plug in a USB thumb drive (8GB). Make sure it is formated as Mac OS X Extended - Journaled and with the GUID partition table. This makes it bootable.
Open Disk Utilities; then the Restore tab.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the Source text box.
Drag your USB thumb drive to the Destination text box.
Click Restore. This will create a bootable USB thumb drive with the pre-installed OS X Mountain Lion for your machine
    Good luck!

  • Osx mountain lion purchase problem

Hey , i have a problem purchasing os x mountain lion from apple store. Whenever i hit Buy button, and after entering my password, it redirects me to the billing info page. by the way, i dont have a payment method set. The method i will use for the purchase is by itunes gift card. after that i get the password requirement again and when i enter it, the os doesnt get purchased and everything keeps happening again and again. whats the problem here? the app goes for 19.99 and i have about 20$ so i have enough credit for the os.
    Help please.

Don't know if you're in the US, but the MAS charges tax on purchases here and that would mean there's not enough credit on your account.

  • Mountain Lion download problems

I have a mac pro (early 2011). I'm trying to install Mountain Lion. The download goes for a few minutes and then stops and will not continue. I'm confident my Mac will support Mountain Lion- Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 is the version I currently run. Any advice?

This has worked for some people
    - Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
    - Quit the App Store
    - In Finder - Go>Go to folder...  (or Apple-shift-G)
    - Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
    - It will take you to a folder.  Delete com.apple.appstore
    - Launch the App Store.  Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy.  It won't charge you again.
Another option is to boot into the Safe Mode  to try and download it.
