HT202159 Problem downloading Mountain Lion

I purchased Mountain Lion to upgrade my MacBook's OS.  It was taking a while to download, when I checked the download this morning (after leaving it to download overnight), it gave me a message "an error has occurred".  I tried resuming the download but it won't let me.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Seems to be a common amount of download and then it stops for others as well.
I would wonder if your ISP has some sort of throttle on your account for large files.

It appears that a few people have had problems downloading Mountain Lion. Search for title
    mountain lion not downloading
Since Apple does not provide a DVD disk or any other media for installing the operating system, I am wondering if there is some sort of Checksum that comes with the downloaded file like a PGP signature or MD5 hash? Because if pepople are having problems downloading the Mountain Lion OS that means there is a possibility of corruption of the software after downloading.
How can you confirm the software is completely intact and valid?

One of a few exaples show is a Apple Discussion post called
    Mountain Lion Download Lost
There are others and I would have to wonder with the time it would take to download the Operating system (and in some cases cost) why is there no physical media?

  • HT202159 Whilst downloading mountain lion - I get in red "An error has occurred" and no ability to resume the download - amy ideas?

I am trying to download mountain lion on to a mac pro but the message I get is just an error has occurred. any suggestions are very welcome.

I was having this problem - I assumed it was the Apple server being overloaded, so I just kept retrying over the last couple of days.  All my apps were upto date, so was Software Update.  i tried logging out of the App Store, restarting and so on.  No joy.
Anyway, eventually I did this, and it seems to have solved the problem.
Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
    Quit the App Store
In Finder - Go>Go to folder...  (or Apple-shift-G)
    Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore"
It will take you to a folder.  Delete the whole folder and empty the trash.
Launch the App Store.  Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy.  It won't charge you again.  It then started downloading.  I'm currently 5% downloaded - but I never got this far before.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem downloading Mountain Lion from App Store

I am unable to download Mountain Lion onto my iMac from the App Store. I have no problem downloading other software - including updates to Final Cut Pro X and several other programs. However, if I try to download Mountain Lion, it starts and then hangs at 142mb. Since yesterday.
The iMac is 3.4 ghz Intel Core i7, with 8GB of ram, with a SSD system drive. It is currently running 0S X 10.7.5. I have restarted several times, and trashed the preferences and cache for the App Store. I also tried creating an alternate user account on the computer and downloading from the new user - it still hangs at 142mb.
I have already purchased Mountain Lion for my MacBook Pro, and that worked great. The App store recognizes that it is a purchased app - but i am unable to download past 142mb. My internet connection is solid, and I have restarted my modem - not sure what else i can do.

    I would first try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If you continue to have a problem it may just be any issue with Apple's servers or those of your ISP.

Can you try to create a new User Account, and then pull the OS through there?

  • HT4463 I am having problems downloading Mountain Lion

I have purchased a new Macbook Pro but as it did not have Mountain Lion already installed, I have purchased this online but have tried over the last 12 hours without success to download it.  It keeps failing.  Is this a common problem and if so, any solutions?

See if your qualifies for a free Mountain Lion upgrade >  Apple - See if you qualify for a free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade.
If your Mac qualifies for the free upgrade, you can ask for a refund here.
    I have purchased this online
The only place Mountain Lion is available for download is the App Store.

  • Problem downloading mountain lion

I begin to install Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro and I get an error screen and they make me reboot back to 10.6.8

Is the installer still in /Applications? It's name is Install OS X Mountain Lion.app. If so, copy it somewhere safe so you don't have to waste time, bandwidth, and electricity DLing it again. Once that's finished, launch the Apple Hardware Test program and run the extended tests at least twice, Follow that with running Rember. Finally, launch Disk Utility and repair the HD. If the HW passes all tests, DL and install the 10.6.8 COMBO update, repair permissions, and restart. Then, here's the important part, get an ext FWHD and put a bootable backup/clone of your updated installation onto it. Ensure you test it by booting with it. Details in

Once all of that's in place, then try installing ML again. If the same thing happens, a trip to an Apple repair station is in order.

  • Mail problems after mountain lion download

I downloaded mountain lion and have now problems to send an eMail. Is there something to change!

Look in System Preferences > Trackpad (or mouse) > Scroll & Zoom tab > uncheck Scroll direction: Natural.
The scrolling direction has been changed to a technique where your push the screen up or pull it down, takes a few days to get used to.  The swipe directions will also be affected by this change.

  • I have a 27in. i5 2011 iMac. Since downloading mountain lion, I can't print or scan, using an Epson AIO Artisian 835, plus I can't do upgrades. and of course I lose wi-fi. I think if I could do upgrades, I could fix the print/scan problem. Any ideas?

I've had several problems since downloading Mountain Lion. As with many others, I lose wi-fi on wake-up. I've also lost my ability to print or scan and I can't do upgrades. If I can't fix these issues, can I uninstall Mountain Lion and go back to Lion?

What is wrong with your Mac?  You still haven't told us what the problem is. Is the computer still under warranty or Apple Care?
the next time i attempted to use the computer it wasn't fine
What do you mean by "wasn't fine".  We can't see your computer so you'll have to describe what your're experiencing in detail without the editorializing.
Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • HT202159 Hi can anyone help? Can't download - Mountain lion now permanently 'paused' in the dock. Purchase page does not have the resume button and I have already signed in & out again... HELP!

    Hi
    Can anyone advise...
Cannot download Mountain Lion after purchasing from Apple online. Mountain Lion icon is now permanently 'paused' in the dock. The Purchase page has the download but no resume button. I have enter the code again but it cannot be redeemed again. I have signed in and out again from the tab at the top of the page.
I have spoken to Apple for two evenings now. Last attempt was to bypass the Mountain Lion and download Mavericks overnight but nothing downloaded.
I have checked the internet connection and all is well.
Any ideas how to progress... I have an appointment to take in to Apple on Monday...

Have you tried to resume the download using Launch Pad?  The icon should be in your Dock.
    If that doesn't help ...
Apps such as Little Snitch, Growl, and MacKeeper can prevent apps from downloading
Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • HT4718 I want to do a factory reset on my iMac due to problems I have had since downloading mountain lion. Should I install my original mac disk (snow leopard) or will it reinstall mountain lion automatically?

I do need mountain lion so I can use icloud. When I downloaded Mountain lion I couldn't find any of my docs because (as it turns out) my hard drive was split and so now everything is in sepperate places and I cant find bits etc. So....... I want everything to be in one place, easy to use as before. I have everything backed up to an external hard drive now.

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
