Re: Corrupt Mountain Lion File @ App Store?
Jul 26, 2012 1:32 AM    (in response to NoPCZone)
What worked for me - no restart required - after reading all these posts...
    1. Disable Virusbarrier X6 (Launch X6, go to preferences > advanced tab, and switch the big slider to 'off'.
    2. Launch the Console.app (in Applications > Utilities)
    3. Once Console launches, go to View > Clear display (this clears the screen, gets rid of the clutter)
    4. Launch the App Store, and try to buy Mountain Lion - you'll get the error message as before.
    5. Quit the App Store.
    6. Go back to Console - and open the folders of information displayed in the viewer window.
    7. In amongst all the gobbledegook text on screen is a parth to the var/folders/ directory. The folder you are looking for will have a name like d3 or zz (it differs on each machine).
    8. Once you know the name of the problem folder - go to the Finder, and choose 'Go to Folder' (Cmd-Shif-G)
    9. Type in /var/folders in the Go To Folder dialog and click 'Go'
    10. In the window that appears, you should see the folder you're looking for, and maybe 1 or 2 others.
    11. Drag the problematic folder out on to the desktop (you may need to authenticate to do this) and save this folder in a new folder - 'old var file' or whatever.
    12. Select the problematic folder from it's original window, and delete it - Cmd-Delete, and it disappears (but you have the backup copy, just in case. Apparently a new folder will automatically be re-created (by FInder or App Store) - so don't fret too much about removing this folder. And you can always copy your 'backup' back here, if there's a problem.
    13. Re-launch the App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. For me - this now worked!
The above worked on a mid-2009 MacBook Pro. I tried a few other suggestions - e.g. re-installing the 10.7.4 combo update but it didn't make a difference. It certainly looks like VirusBarrier X6 is the culprit.
I am currently downloading Mountain Lion - but I did update X6 beforehand to the latest verison, which is supposedly 'Mountain Lion ready'. Once downloaded and installed, I'll go back to VirusBarrier and switch it back on.
    Good luck folks!

  • Why is my Mountain Lion download hanging after 53 MB

I am trying to download Mountain Lion from the AppStore and am unable to complete the download.  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 with OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).  I have done the partial download multiple times, trying to pause and resume as well as canceling and purchasing the app store item again.  I have tried downloading while in Safe Mode.  Each time the download runs fine up to the point where it reaches 53.25 MB and then it hangs.  At that point it is frozen and doesn't  restart  no matter what I do. Does anybody have a similar problem?  Does anybody have a solution?

Hi, I posted this reply on a similar discussion - this solved it for me...
I was also getting stuck at 53.25mb and tried several solutions on the forum.
A possible reason I have found is if you are (as I am) on BT Broadband using a 2-Wire Hub because there is apparently a 2GB download limit (not heard this of this before). I read this on MacRumors and that BT plan to release a firmware upgrade to sort the problem.
In the meantime I switched to another non-BT wireless network in the same building and hey presto the download is flying.
Haven't tried the hotspot shield solution.

  • Why won't mountain lion download?

I downloaded mountain lion on my iMac without much hassle but the MBP wont down load the os. I have 20 gb Space and 2 of memory. -I've turned sleep and energy saver off for both battery and elec source on my MBP and attempted to download seven times but it gets to the end and the status on App Store shows I need to down load it. I spotlight searched mt lion and it isn't on my machine. I disk repaired and still nothing. Any ideas?  Thanks!

On the MBP you can try an App Store reset.

  • Does Mac Mountain Lion download stuff in the Background?

Haven't noticed it till date. But, today I started using a limited bandwidth internet plan so I was looking at the traffic. Strangely, there was constant download/upload activity.
Are there any known cases of Mac downloading stuff in the background?
Is there any way to measure this?
P.S: I disabled automatic update downloads

Any client on a network, including wireless clients you don't know about, could be consuming bandwidth. Wi-Fi networks must be protected with WPA2 security. If yours isn't, change the security setting on the access point. If it's already set that way, change the password. Make it a string of at least 8 random characters, including digits and upper- and lower-case letters. The password is saved in the keychain and you don't have to be able remember it; in fact, you shouldn't be able to remember it.
You make these changes in AirPort Utility, if the access point is an Apple device, or in a web browser otherwise.
If the network or the password was insecure, and bandwidth use returns to normal after securing it, you can be pretty sure the problem was caused by intruders.
But intrusion may not be the issue. Most often BitTorrent, iCloud, Dropbox, or some other cloud-data application is involved in cases of mysterious bandwidth use by a Mac. If you use iCloud, uncheck at least Photo Stream andDocuments & Data in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. If you use third-party network backup or file-sync software, disable that. If you use a torrent client, remove it.
Otherwise, there's no easy way to monitor network usage per process using built-in tools. If you're an advanced user and you want to try, see the manual page for the nettop(1) shell command. It may or may not provide the information you're looking for.
The third-party products Rubbernet and Little Snitch are supposed to record network usage by processes. I can't vouch for them. Both were available as free trials, the last time I checked. I suggest you uninstall either one when the question has been answered.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • HT202159 mountain lion download interrupted and resume button not working

mountain lion download interrupted and resume button not working

From the App Store menu bar top of your screen, click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.
You may need to temporarily disable anti virus software to download apps from the App Store including Mountain Lion.
Make sure your Mac qualifies to run Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Mountain lion download interrupted, cannot resume download

    Hello,
I am running Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro purchased in 2009. I recently purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store. (My system meets all the requirements to download this software.) While attempting to download Mountain Lion, I must have temporarily lost my DSL Internet connection, which is not an uncommon experience in the rural area where I live; it can go off for five minutes then be on again and sometimes does this several times a week. Obviously this paused my download, which looked to be about 50% complete after the first three hours.A shadow mountain lion icon appeared on my dock showing a pause. As per instuctions in Apple Support I went to the Apps store, clicked on purchases and tried to resume my download. The software is listed under my purchases but "resume" was not an option given. So I clicked on the download button thinking I could just start over. The button went from dark to dim as if the download was going to happen but after a few seconds it darkened again and the download did not start. I tried several times. So I looked in this forum again and found a similar problem. The solution given was to go to the application folder, find the icon for the partial download, discard it, then try downloading from the Apps Store again. There was no icon for a partial download in my Application folder. Now I am stymied and very digusted that it is not possible to email Apple support directly with my problem.
By the way I know Mavericks is the latest version of OSX softtware but download that would mean I would have to buy a new printer so I have decided to stick with Mountain Lion which I am already running on my iMac.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Marcy

Does the downloaded file/app get corrupted
A slow internet connection for huge files like Mountain LIon (4.34 GB), can time out before the file is completely downloaded.
Try this...  from the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads.
Something to keep in mind if you need to repair the startup disk or reinstall OS X.
"Reinstalling OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion via OS X Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the Internet from Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation."
From here >   OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
So if it's possible, contact your ISP to see if you can upgrade to a faster connection.

  • 4 GB Mountain Lion Download quits @ 425 MB. 1.6 GB FCP X downloads OK!

    That's it really!
If a 4 GB Mountain Lion Download from the App Store repeatedly quits at 425 MB but a 1.6 GB FCP X download from the App Store works perfectly, it surely must be a fault with the App Store - but if anyone knows a way to contact Apple and report this, they're doing better than I am.
    Andy

Well, I managed to contact Apple on this matter.
The problem turned out to be my BT (British Telecom) 2Wire 2700 HGV Router.
I bought a new router online, and Mountain Lion downloaded perfectly.
Goodness only knows why Final Cut Pro X downloaded fine, but Mountain Lion repeatedly stalled at 425 MB - but that's computer equipment for you!
