HT202183 My power button on 6th gen nano stopped working.

hello everybody.
the power button on my 6th gen nano stopped working. everything else is ok but won't switch on unless plugged in to power. then its fine.
I think the power button is broken/stuck.
Anybody else have this problem?
If so how did you fix it/ how much did it cost to fix?

Take the iPod Nano into an Apple Store.  After the folks there examine it, they will quote you an estimate.  Or you can call them and ask.

My 6th gen nano ipod stopped working. I figured it was because it was next to my sweaty body, so put it in rice. I sought help from internet and tried all of the troubleshooting steps; i.e pushing down the power button and the volume down button consecutively, plugging it in to a power source, waiting 10 minutes and pushing the buttons while it was plugged in. Nothing has worked thus far. Is there anything else that I can try?

  • My 6th gen nano never works unless connected to my computer

my 6th gen nano never works unless connected to my computer. I already restored factory settings twice, it's still not working. It automatically turns off when I unplug it from pc.

If a complete restore of the Nano failed to resolve the issue, the issue is hardware related.  In your case it sounds like the battery is shot and in need of a replacement as it can no longer hold or rebuild any sort of charge.  You can choose to have Apple swap out the battery for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party service to have them replace the battery for a little less.
If the Nano is less than a year old, it should still be covered under Apple's 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects.  In that case, bring to your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and show them what is going on and they should swap it out for you at no cost.

  • 5th gen nano stopped working and won't charge

My 5th gen nano stopped working all of a sudden, and also won't charge.  Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi, I also have a 5th generation iPod nano. It is very old (or at least for technology), so the issue is most likely the battery. My advise would be to buy a newer generation iPod because it would most likely take more time/money to fix the problem than the iPod is worth. Check out the refurbished section of the Apple website, the prices are typically sufficiently lower than the price of a brand new iPod, but just as good. Thats how I get all my Apple products.

  • Power button and a few keys stopped working

Alright so last night my girlfriend went to turn on her macbook mid 2010 and it wouldn't turn on. I know her battery doesn't keep a charge as well as it used to so I suspected that she had let the battery drain all the way down (which it turned out to be true) so I told her to let it charge for a while and then try again. She did that and nothing, so then I took a look at it and I couldn't get it to turn on.
I took off the rubber bottom and I used a bent up staple to touch two contacts on the logicboard to turn on the laptop. The laptop booted up normally and I started checking out what keys weren't working, (I could list them all if that helps) both shift keys weren't working the volume control wasn't working at first then after a few reboots it was working again, the screen brightness wasn't working but if I pressed both at the same time it would turn the volume down (yes the volume not the screen brightness).
I looked all over the internet for a solution and I tried different things suggested on here but I couldn't reset the SMC because the shift keys (and left option key) weren't working. I had a hunch that the topcase didn't just go bad and something else was wrong with it so finally I decided to switch logicboards with a broken macbook (early 09) that I have laying around; this logicboard works perfectly fine but my roommate spilt water on it macbook and a few keys on the topcase don't work anymore including the power button (this is how I knew about the two points on the logicboard and using a staple to turn on the macbook without the powerbutton).
Once I switched logicboards all of the buttons were working perfectly fine again. So her computer is working as it should now but the better logicboard is acting up, does anyone have any ideas of whats going on?
I would like to fix her logicboard if possible. Any ideas would be very much appriciated. Thanks

Remove the battery and inspect it for any swelling or deformation. That can affect keyboard function. If you see battery swelling, temporarily operate on A/C with the battery out. If the problem goes away, you've isolated the problem to the battery.
NOTE: you should not operate the computer for extended periods without the battery. The processor clocks back significantly when you operate of wall power with no battery installed (reference: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332 )

  • 6th Gen Nano and Car Adapters

Anyone know if the new 6th gen Nano will work with automotive iPod adapters? Specifically, I have an after-market Sony deck in one car, and the other is a Cadillac CTS with built-in iPod connector. My old 4th gen Nano works, but it seems these car kits only work with the click-wheel style of iPod (something about the way the file structure is done on these devices).
My iPhone 4 gives me an "incompatible" message in the Cadillac, but it does seem to have limited functionality through the head unit.

    No, it does not.

  • Power Button Stuck on 6th Gen Nano

    Hi,
If the Power button gets stuck (in the "ON" position) on my 6th gen Nano, and the device is less than a year old, can I still get Apple to replace it with a new one --- even if all I have is just the serial number on the device and nothing else?
Or do I need the receipt, and original box & packaging, etc...
    Thanks.

You are still under warranty for a repair.  Call Apple tech support and report the problem to them.
Have you considered purchasing AppleCare?  Extends your warranty 2 more years.

  • My 6th gen nano screen will not rotate, stuck perpendicular to buttons

All of a sudden, my 6th gen nano screen will not rotate. I have it on a watch band and it is perpendicular to the buttons (and my view of it).

planb77, you have truly taught me a lesson, and after all these years, I finally see that it is very helpful to READ THE MANUAL.  I was having this issue, and it was spell out for me all this time.  I never liked to look at the manual to resolve my technical issues, but I will always go there first to see if I can resolve any issues.

  • 6th gen nano keeps dispalying no radio signal even though I have the earpiece plugged in. Can anyone advise please?

6th gen nano keeps displaying no radio signal even though I have the earpiece plugged in. Can anyone advise? Thanks

    Hey there larkandwarbler,
It sounds like you are experiencing multiple issues with this iPod Nano 5th Gen. From what you are describing it seems we can isolate this to either the software or the hardware on the device with a couple of simple steps assuming you have tried another set of headphones. First, reset your iPod with this article:
    How to reset iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
How to reset an iPod with a Click Wheel
iPod models with a Click Wheel include:
    iPod nano (5th generation)
    iPod nano (4th generation)
    iPod nano (3rd generation)
    iPod nano (2nd generation)
    iPod nano
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
If you are able to reset it, but the issue persists, or you are unable to reset it, I would next attempt restoring it with iTunes:

  • HOW do I get the "watch" to stay on and not shut off on my 6th GEN  NANO?

After purchasing a $70 cool watchband for my new 6th GEN NANO, I'm very disapointed that I can't get the "watch" function to stay on more than 15 seconds.  AppleCare says that it isn't meant to stay on, it would run down the battery.  Then why put on 16 watch faces, and show it as a "watch" on everything you publish?  Doesn't make sense you can watch TV shows and movies, but doesn't have enough battery to run a watch face.   BAD design, and shame on APPLE for selling a dozen different watchbands in their stores.  Now don't you think the store salesman would say "are you thinking of wearing this as a watch, or to hold your NANO while you are at the gym"?   15 seconds is often not enought time to get setup and take someone's blood pressure.  I don't think I need to offer an explanation of WHY a watch should work more than 15 seconds without pushing a button, do I?

This is getting silly, but I'm not too young to remember the early digital watches.  The difference is that we knew what we were buying .  jThey were upfont about the FACT that the watches didn't stay on.  And how well did they sell as watches?  Hmmm    I don't think any of us said that Apple was pushing Nano primarily as a watch.  That said, this is not a third party "app" either .... 18 clock faces come with the Nano as a "feature" of the product. It's not a "digital time read out"... it's made to look and act like a watch.   Apples own website touts that you can change its face "to match your mood or your outfit".... The  bands they sell range from $20 bucks to like $150 bucks....   This is a HUGE money maker for them.   It is THESE KINDS OF FEATURES that brings people back buying new ipods, because like I said, without them, I have plenty of devices that already "record music", or "store pictures".    And your other points have zero merit.  Go to the Apple website to the Nano 6 page where Apple touts all of its merits. This is where Apple explains the features of their product.  There is a whole section:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/features.html
Clock faces. Time to match your mood. Or your outfit.
    (copy below)
    It’s all in the wrist.
Do you wear your iPod nano on a watchband? With 18 different clock face designs to choose from, you can have a new watch style whenever the mood strikes you. Sport an analog face for a formal event, go digital for a retro feel, or choose a whimsical, animated character like Mickey Mouse or Kermit the Frog. There are also color options so you can match the color of your iPod nano. iPod nano watchbands are available in a range of styles and colors from theApple Online Store.
And last, for the record Sir, I have probably purchased 50 Apple products for myself, my business, and as gifts in the last 10 years.  I have had my manufacturing issues which Apple always responsibly took care of.  But I have NOT ONCE complained in this forum about ANYTHING. I am a HUGE Apple fan.  I felt strongly enough, that this issure warranted warning others about.  Mostly, I wanted APPLE to understand the gaff and perceptual problem which was created. Perhaps not to all (like to you), but certainly to some (obviously like me). Let's face it, we BOTH represent groups of the public, like it our not.  Especially, since I rarely talk to Apple staff, I'm an early adopter, and for some reason, I hesitated on this product and did talk to a couple staff members when I was in the store FOR OTHER THINGS. I bought one for myself, and three for gifts.  I've already returned the ones I bought as gifts, because when I showed my neices and nephews MINE, and the disfunction of the watch, they all lost interest in keeping theirs, and opted for other Apple devices instead.  And if you still don't think they are marketing this Nano as a watch more than  iphone, touch, pad, or classic, then I throw up my arms, and say Happy New Year.  You are Apple washed and whipped beyond repair. NOBODY is perfect, not even Apple.  Or, you.

  • 6th gen nano not recognized by win7, nor itunes

i've been using my 6th gen nano for a few months now with no problems. suddenly today, i plugged it in and it wasn't recognized by windows and doesn't show up in itunes.
i keep getting errors stating the unknown device is not recognized. i've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers in the Device Manager. i've tried everything on this support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538. i've also uninstalled, reset, and reinstalled itunes...twice. i've also reset the 6th gen nano several times by holding down the - volume button and sleep button.
the weird thing is, when i plug in my 2nd gen shuffle, it's instantly recognized by win7 and itunes. same thing for my 1st gen nano (using the same cable and USB port).

  • 6th gen nano won't charge

I got my wife a new 6th gen nano.  It operates just fine...as long as it's plugged into my PC.  I can put songs on it, use the touch screen, etc. The display shows the battery with the plug icon on it, which I assume means it's plugged in, but not charging.  As soon as I disconnect it, the ipod won;t work at all. No power ups, nothing at all.  I tried resetting it when plugged in, but it made no difference.  I've tried charging it on the PC via the USB cable, on my car charger for my 5th gen ipod, and using the AC adapter, but with no luck.  Do i just have a bad battery or what?!

Take the iPod  to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • 6th Gen nano wont connect to computer or itunes.

Alright so when i connect it itunes identifys that i have plugged in an ipod but it cant properly identify it, usually when you plug in a new ipod you give it a name and all that, but i cant even get that far. My itunes is updated and ive unplugged and plugged in my usb's multiple times and restarted my computer multiple times, used to safely remove hardware button to reconnect it, and turned off my firewall, it seems ive tried everything and its not working.. im about to just take it back becuase im begining to think its defective. It wont show up as a driver on my computer either, and ive tried resetting it without itunes, nothing seems to be working... if theres something i missed leave a post ill try it and get back to ya(:
:EDIT: ive also followed the entire apple troubble shooting page for the 6th gen nanos and it didnt help me at all D:

The older pods are different from the newer ones. The newer ones need some software to be working correctly that the older ones don't.
It sounds like the apple USB stuff is not installed correctly for you. Here is an article from apple on what to do:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Some other things to keep in mind:
    - Don't connect the iPod through a USB hub
    - Connect it directly to the computer through a USB port on the back, not one in the front. The USB ports on the front of Windows based systems are notoriously underpowered.
    hope that helps,

  • 6th Gen Nano Battery Life

How much run time are you getting with your 6th Gen Nano?
The tech specs state "up to 24 hours of play time."
I'm getting less than 6 hours. I charge overnight and listen to podcasts at 1.5x speed. The screen display is off most of this time. I may pause it every 30 min or so, but the screen is "off" the vast majority of time.
The unit is about a week old and only cycled 3 times.
    Thanks,
    Joe

I thought I had a defective batter as well, but I was wrong. I have been using the ipod throughout the day, starting in the Am with a full charge. At the end of the day, using it on and off, it would be about 20% or less. My thought was that I was probably only using it maybe 6 or 7 hours a day and that this is not what apple advertised. So I thought Id put it to the test. I was thinking that because I was changing albums by hand (using the LCD), checking song names occasionally, maybe using the lcd was a problem and draining the battery. So I looped a playlist and plugged it into my headphones and didn't touch it except for a couple times to quickly check the batter meter. It Gave up and quit at 16 hours. I thought for sure that I had a defective unit as thats 8 hours short of the 24 hours claimed. After reading an apple doc on how to extend battery life on Ipods, It mentioned that Turning off the EQ would extend the batter life. I also had another thought. The headphones I use are more DJ style and much larger. perhaps it takes more battery life to drive these things. So I Plugged in the Stock Apple Headphones and hit the reset button on the Ipod, which turned off the EQ and put the Ipod back to factory spec. After a re-run of the test, I got 31 hours and 15 minutes. This is a huge difference. So I guess My ipod is OK,and learned that the headphones I use, the abundant use of the interface screen, and using an EQ setting has a huge impact on batter life. Now I know, Hope this helps.

  • 6th gen Nano: Sound quality and updates?

So I'm looking at possibly getting a 6G nano, couple questions. How is the sound quality? I recently bought a pair of $75 headphones and was very pleased with the them listening on my ipod touch 2nd gen, not so much on my 2nd gen shuffle. Can anyone compare the sound quality of the 6th gen nano to the 2nd gen ipod touch, or even the 2nd gen shuffle?
One feature that may keep me from buying this is the fact that it automatically sleeps after 60 seconds and there is no way to change this. So you have to wake the thing after every 60 seconds, which would be very annoying, especially if you are on a bike. Can/will apple do an update via itunes to add the ability to change these settings? For example the ipod touch has options to sleep after 1,2,3,4,5 minutes and never sleep. Thanks.

I think the sound is really good for such a small device. I don't notice much of a difference between the 6g nano and my 2nd gen touch. I do use better headphones. For exercise I use some sennheisers and also have a $200 pair of Dr Dre monster head phones that sound great! I do have the soundcheck turned on to even out volume levels between tracks.
I biked today with it clipped the left shoulder of my shirt. Yes...you have to hit the wake button to turn on the screen before you can hit the forward to next track button. Not too hard to get used to once you do it a few times. I do wish there was a way to keep the screen turned on ...maybe in a future firmware upgrade.
