  • TS2972 Home Sharing with Windows 7

I'd set up Home Sharing on my venerable notepad running Windows XP Professional over a year ago.  My iTunes library was on an external hard drive.  I'd been able to access the iTunes library from several iPad 2's as well as my iPhone.
Times change, and events roll on.
I have changed jobs, and had to hand in my old notepad.
I have shifted my iTunes to my tower workstation running Windows 7 Ultimate.  It was a bit of a cluster, but I have installed iTunes on the tower workstation.  Additionally, I have the same iTunes library on the external hard drive connected to my Windows 7 environment.  I had to back it up and then restore it, but all content is available, playlists, app backups, etc.
The final piece of the puzzle for me is Home Sharing.
I cannot get it to work.
I have enabled Home Sharing on the Windows 7 maching running iTunes 11.0.4.4  I then run "Music" on my iPad 2, hit the more button, and go to share my library.  The "spinner" icon appears for about a minute, and then the app just goes "poof" and disappears.
I have disabled home sharing on the Windows box, as well as the iPad, restarted both, added in Home Sharing, and no joy.
I have unplugged my router, let it sit for a minute and then powered it back up, no joy.
From my lay perspective, given that I've not done anything on the iPad, and swapped a notepad running XP, for a workstation running 7, the cause is resident on the workstation.  However, what the issue is, gosh only knows.
I disabled my antivirus and spyware software (ESET), with the same result, the Music app goes poof.
Any suggestions, would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Mark

can you list some more Hardware details..
Can you access a safe restore point or back up point?

  • HT202213 home sharing with different logins

I want to share certain tunes on my itunes library with my child, but not all.  I have a separate account set up for her, but I can't seem to share files.  Is this because we use the same computer?

  • HT202213 home sharing with multiple itunes accounts

In our household we have three seperate itunes accounts (Husband) (Wife) (Kids).  We each have our own user on the Home PC (Win XP) and we each have a laptops (3 Win-8).  Then we have multiple apple devices (3) iPhones, (4) iPods, (2) iPod touch, (2) iPads.  I would like to be able to share music and apps purchased on the individual accounts accross all the devices.  I have the home share setting but do not know how to link the accounts.

I've been trying to thing what might be different about my set up versus yours in case (which may be likely) you are correct and your wife's library is authorised and plays your content in her iTunes application.
I deliberately chose my wife's music to check my set up because she pays for her own iTunes account, whereas my children have their own accounts but I give them an allowance and send them gift vouchers from my account (which I thought might just be relevant). I later realised that my wife's library is also on our homesharing ID (which again might have been relevant), so I've now tried it with my youngests purchased and protected content because his library is using our homesharing ID.
    I'll keep thinking.

  • On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with apple tv

On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with my apple tv.  This problem started about two itunes updates ago.  Any thoughts?

Try a search of the forums or the "More Like This" section to the right.
Also might have better luck posting to the Apple TV forum.

  • HT202213 Trying to activate home sharing with new iTunes update, says error #5506, any ideas?  Worked great before this update!

I'm trying to use home sharing with the latest iTunes update.  Keep getting error message 5506-any idea how to resolve this error and share at home?

Well, I tried a few other things and one worked but again just the first time I tried connecting to the desktop PC with iTunes. I flashed my router with the latest update and the ATV2 could see the iTunes library and I was able to play media. Later in the day I was going to show off to my daughter that I had fixed it and, to my dismay, no go. I tried opening the suggested ports but no luck.
I then tried loading iTunes on a Win7 laptop and it works perfectly with the ATV2. Both the laptop and the ATV2 are connected to the router wirelessly while the Desktop is connected to the router by Ethernet. Not sure if this is part of the issue as it sounds like this didn't work for others. The only other difference between the laptop and desktop is that the desktop has Win7 SP1 loaded while the laptop does not; now I'm scarred to load it though I don't think that's the issue. All in all, a very vexing situation. Hopefully Apple comes up with a solution soon.

  • Internet connection drops when I use Home Sharing with my iPod Touch

    Hi,
I have two PCs (Windows 7 and Windows Vista) both with iTunes 10.2.1 and an iPod Touch with iOS 4.3.1.
When I use iTunes' Home Sharing with my iPod Touch, that is, I stream music, podcasts, etc from either one of my PC computers to my iPod Touch, a few minutes later both laptops, as well as my iPod Touch, lose Internet connectivity. While home sharing continues, Internet connection is lost. I have to unplug my modem and wireless router to get back my Internet connection. The problem, however, recurs again and again.
    Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
    Dave

I am having the same problem. My MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and even the PC all lose internet connectivity;but home sharing still continues to function properly on ATV2.
I'm not too savvy on routers and modems, but could the problem be my router's capacity?

  • Home Sharing between Windows Vista and Windows 8

I am trying to carry out Home Sharing between my old Windows Vista laptop and my new Windows 8 laptop. I have followed all the instructions and both have HS switched on. I can see my W8 library from my WV laptop but I cannot see my WV library from my W8 laptop.
An additional question is I do not have a Podcast button on my Windows 8 iTunes whereas it is on the Windows Vista iTunes.
Can anyone assist me in finding a resolution????

I have been having this exact issue the past 2 days, and I've tried everything within my knowledge, but to no avail. Both Home Sharing computers are on the same network, logged into Home Sharing with the same Apple account, and both computers are authorized for that account. I'm afraid this may just be an issue with the recent iTunes update. Before this recent version, the 2 computers I'm trying to share between did so just fine. Now, the connection is only working one way. I think this will just have to be resolved on Apple's part upon a new iTunes update. Hopefully. Another reason may be the difference in computer operating software (Windows Vista vs. Windows 8) and the inability to communicate between the two (This can happen since the older OS may not be capable of communicating with the newer OS, while the newer OS MAY be capable of communicating with older OS versions). Therefore, a new update would be required from Apple to fix this error. As for your issue in not seeing the Podcast button, try this:
    If you have version 11.0.1:
    1) Click the very upper left icon in the window.
    2) Click "Preferences..." (Or hit keys [CTRL] + [,])
    3) Click the tab labeled "General" on the window that pops up.
    4) There should be a list of check boxes, each labeled a different component of iTunes. (Music, Movies, etc.)
    5) Make sure the checkbox labeled "Podcasts" is checked.
    6) Click the "OK" button in the bottom right of the window to save changes and close the window.
If you have an earlier version, follow the EXACT same process as above, except step 1 will be different:
    1) Click "File in the upper left corner.
    Hope this helps!

  • No home sharing with out Apple have your credit card !!!!!!!!!

Is there soneone out there - that know how to enable home sharing - with out give up your credit card information to Apple !!!!!
This goes for the Apple ID - that need to "setup" (read give more money to Apple) - and wants your credit card info to complete
and it seem like if your skip that part in the Apple ID part - your can not use Home sharing

Thanks, for telling us how to get an Apple ID without a credit card [sarcasm].
I found out be someone other than an Apple employee how to get an Apple ID without using a credit card...
You register for the Apple ID by going through your iTunes application instead of going straight to the internet via a browser. There will be a "NONE" icon to click, right next to the credit cards and Pay Pal icons, on the credit card page of the registration. That's how I FINALLY was able to get my Apple ID so I can use Home Sharing for my AppleTV.
Just to show how cheap the reply was to my question above [via Slash_Gordon/the account that won't allow me into the Apps Store, and won't give me a workable Apple ID for Home Sharing]... Apple sent me a cheap reply today, leading me to this useless conversation thread which had no answer to my problem, which now has the answer in this comment>>
Go to the iTunes Store through your iTunes application [not your internet browser] > Click on "App Store" at top of page > Click on "Sign In" > A small window opens > Click on "Create Apple ID" > another page will appear in the iTunes application > Click on "Continue" > Agree to their "Terms and Conditions" by checking the "agree" square > Then click on "Agree" > Fill out all the "Provide Apple ID Details" on the next page > Then click on the "NONE" on the credit card/PayPal page and fill out the rest below... not the credit card info, though... finish up. That "NONE" icon is the key, which doesn't appear when we try to register via an internet browser.
It seems, Apple is purposely being vague so they can get credit card info. I wish they would prove it isn't true by actually giving me the needed info in my email, instead of leading me to a converstion thread which had no solution to the problem. They should have a Support page giving the solution... of course, they'll say they do have one, and really don't. Well, now you have the solution right here, thanks to someone that gave me the solution when I Googled long enough for it.

How do I use Home Sharing with two different apple accounts?

    Morning Saintine,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Home Sharing enables you to stream or transfer music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more among up to five authorized computers in your household. To do so, you will need to Turn on Home Sharing on each computer using the same Apple ID.

  • HT4557 Can I use Home Sharing with only another person's iPad but with out the other person's computer?

Would like to share music with someone.  Currently the computer registered with the iPad is out of commission.  But since you can pretty much do everything on the iPad another computer was not purchased.  How can I utilize home sharing with out two computers?

You don't.  Otherwise they would have called it Device sharing.
