How do I connect computers on home sharing?
Im not sure what to do on this new version of Itunes.

On one computer in itunes from the top menu
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share Enter your apple id and create share
On the second computer
again File > Home Sharing> Create Home Share Use exactly the same apple id as the
first machine
On each machine to get the itunes 10 look and feel
View > ShowSidebar
Also Authorise each Machine with the other apple id Store > Authorise this computer
You should now have an orange house icon in the Shared section of your itunes

I have a laptop that has all of my 1000+ iTunes songs downloaded from the iStore and CDs. I downloaded iTunes on my desktop and connected them with Home Sharing. At first iI thought it worked great but noticed less than half of my songs showed up in iTunes on the Desktop. All of the songs are checked in iTunes on the laptop so I am not sure what I am doing wrong and how I can get all of my songs to show up on both computers.

Launch iTunes on the computers you're interested in. Check in the "Advanced" menu.
If "Turn on Home Sharing" is listed as an option, the iTunes library that you have open is not Home Sharing.
If "Turn off Home Sharing ([accountname]) is listed as an option, the iTunes library that you have open is Home Sharing.

There's no list available from your end. If you're out of authorizations, use the Deauthorize All function.

What do you mean by "won't pick up the songs"?
You can only sync with one iTunes library. However, you can manage mauic and videos among different computer by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
You can transfer iTunes purchases to a computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

Copy the movie from the current library to the correct library.
iDevices can only sync to one library at a time.

No need to "import". Just find the photo in iPhoto (i.e. within the application), click it once so it's highlighted with a blue outline, then select Edit menu > Copy (or just ⌘-C). Go to Address Book, select the contact, click the Edit button at the bottom, click once on the blank photo icon so it's highlighted with a blue outline, then select Edit menu > Paste (or just ⌘-V).
FYI, the original iPhoto images are stored as individual files, in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/subfolders.

Honestly, if you want help it is generally a good idea to ask a specific question and give some details of what problem is occurring.
If trying to move media, using home sharing is simply a bad idea. Follow some of the other instructions in the article from which the question was posted to move media.

OK, I just got off of the phone with Apple and still no joy. They had me try a few things that did not work, then told me to Archive and Install, which did not either. Anyway, thanks for the additional help very note worthy, but still no joy. Also an email to iTunes Support took me here

I have a Users/Shared folder but since the files we are talking about are invisible, I can see how it is structured.

and it did not work. However, when I install a fresh copy of Tiger on the external it did authorize the computer and was able to play the downloads. But coping the invisible file to my boot drive was not successful. But , like I said the music did play when I started up from the external. So I guess that may be my only solution, unless someone can tell what the correct directory is and where it for iTunes downloads.

I have 2 computers which have Home Sharing turned on. When I use Apple TV it shows both computers and can play videos from both without any problems.
What I cannot work out is how to change the names of the shares. They both have the same name which appears to be determined by the first name from my itunes account which is sharing files rather than using the name of the library on the computer. So, both computers look identical. I cannot tell which one I am choosing from the list.
Since most of my videos are on an external hard drive which will only be connected to one at a time, I can only tell if I have selected the correct one when the video plays or shows an error.
Why does Home Sharing not care what I want to name my library or about the name of the sharing computer? Have I missed something? I know how to change the name of my "shared library" but it is irrelevant to what Apple TV can see.
It seems pointless to show the name of a shared library if that name is determined by the sharing account when Apple TV can only use one account at a time. Every computer it will allow will be called the same thing.
If it's relevant, my sharing computers are using Mac OSX 10.7 and Windows 7.

When I change it to say Matt's library from administrators library, the name changes on my apple tv. I'm not sure about 2 computers though. I would think changing the library name under preferences would work.

I am trying to share music from my Macbook Pro to my father's Mac Desktop. I was able to get the 'home sharing' to work; I can see and play my father's music and he is able to play mine too. I was trying to import the songs but I am not able to copy & paste and I do not see an 'import' button at the bottom right of our windows when selecting songs. After researching through the forums, I figured it out. You have to make sure you are logged in under the same account on both computers. At first I was logged under my account on my computer and logged in under my father's account on my father's computer. You have to choose one account to log in under on both computers and then you will be abler to import songs from both computers. If you do not log in under the same account, you will be able to listen to both computers' music, but not import.

Two apple TVs, 4 computers and home sharing

We have four computers that work well with our Apple TV and home sharing. Is it possible to have a second Apple TV operate on the same network and stream content to a second TV? I seem to recall there was a limit to the number of computers that could be a part of home sharing but I don't recall if there was a limit to Apple TVs

You can have up to 5 first gen models connected to each mac, the five limit counts but macs and Apple TVs have a five count each not between them.
I'm not really sure how many second gen models you can have but it's certainly more than one, I'd imagine at least five and likely more - because it's homeshare not an authorised device.
