HT202213 Once Home Sharing is on, how do we import?

We have turned on home sharing, he hsa my library up, but we cannot import, please help!

We took 3 video cassette 8mm that were recorded in the early 90's to a place that burned the videos onto 3 DVDs.  When inserted to our Mac, the DVD player comes on to play the DVD. Opened Quicktime, but can find no way to import. Went to File>Open File>Sony_DVD_Recorder_Volume. Clicked on Sony_DVD-Recorder_Volume and it shows a file named VIDEO_TS.  Clicked on that and 6 files showed VIDEO_TS.BUP,   VTS_01-0.BUP,   VTS_01_0.IFO,  VTS-01_1.VOB,   VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  Where is DVDxDV?

If you want to share from a different account simply go into the settings and log in with that home-share ID

if the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked in iTunes > preferences > advanced, files you transfer via homesharing are copied permanently to the other library.

  • I have windows, one computer but multi users. home sharing is on. how can i share music between users on one computer?

I have windows.  One computer but multi users.  Home sharing is on. 2 apple accounts-1 per user. 4 devices-2 iphones and 2 ipods per user.  How can we share music  on one computer between 2 users?

Hi Justinece, I've solved the problem in this way:
In my wife user profile I've set in itunes settings/advanced the path to my music library: /Users/"MY NAME"/Music/iTunes/Itunes media.
Than, from my wife profile using my administrator user and password I've set the "read/write" privileges on the above mentioned folder.
Finally I've added the folder in my wife's library taking care to not duplicate it ( leave blank the flag in itunes setting/advanced).
I really don't understand what's the use of home sharing...

  • HT202213 can home sharing link automatically or do I have to connect each time after connection is lost ie if i leave house for day with phone do I have to connect shared library again on phone in evening when back in house?

Can home sharing link automatically or do I have to connect each time after connection is lost ie if i leave house for day with iphone or ipad do I have to connect shared library again on iphone/ipad in evening when back in house? It would be good if it just links automatically

Well then maybe I misunderstood what you meant even though now that you explained it again, I should have though about that.
When you leave the house in the morning with your device, you lose the connection to the library because you are no longer on the same WiFi network as you are at home. You have to be on the same network in order to use Home Sharing. Once you get home again, you have to select the Shared Library again.
I apologize for the confusion or misunderstanding.

  • How can i get home sharing to work, how can i get home sharing to work

When I sign into my Apple ID on multiple computers for home sharing, the icon on the left hand side in itunes disappears after I click done. I have tried to redownload itunes, restart my computer, basically anything the internet said but nothing helped. Helpp please!!

    Gino Cerullo,
Thanks for your response. I tried all that myself. In fact, last night, it all worked fine on all users. This morning, no Home Sharing would show up. It is really weird because some setting must have changed, but I did not knowingly changed anything, and now all the obvious fixes don't work. In fact, if I turn off Home Sharing and turn it back on, then it comes up only until I hit the "done" button on the set up page and then it goes away from the left hand column again. The ADVANCED drop down tab says it is on, but it is not there.
    Thanks anyway.

  • HT202213 No Home Sharing Icon

Signed in on both computers multiple times, turning home sharing on and off.
Both computers have current versions of itunes.
    Should work, but doesn't.
I need to transfer some moving purchases from one computer to the other.
    Thanks,

Same problem. Two MacBook Pros. Home Sharing appears in the side bar when I'm signing in to home sharing, but disappears as soon as I click Done. Both Macs are on the same Wifi network.
    Thanks

  • HT202213 Does Home Sharing use up data allowance?

    Hi,
Does Home Sharing use up broadband data allowance, or is the data streamed between iMac and Apple TV kept just within the home using the wireless router? I'm unsure as the info on Apple's site says homesharing requires an active internet connection.
All I really want to do is stream photos and music from my Mac to the HDTV as it has the sound system hooked up to it. I don't want to have to use iCloud for this, as I don't believe the satellite connection is consistent enough.
I'm concerned as I only have a 3GB monthly allowance, and am on satellite broadband, so service is a bit patchy.
    Any thoughts/solutions greatly appreciated.

iTunes: Home sharing can't be activated due to an error (5506). Who can help?
I have an Apple ID but for some reason iTunes does not recognizes it.
I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes as well?

Did you ever figure it out? I am new to itunes and it won't allow me to home share with my daughter because I don't have a credit card.

  • Home sharing wont let me click the import button when I try to import songs from one computer to another.

I can see the import button but it wont let me click on it.

The above article did not help me, I was having the same issue. The import button was "greyed out". But this article did help...mostly:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
I successfully moved my music from my old computer running Windows XP to a laptop running Windows 7. I could never get the import button to be "active" but I randomly tried selecting all the music I could view from my old computer on the new computer using Home Sharing and dragging it to Library on the new computer. It immediately starting copying the files, and then, and only then,  the Import button became "active" i.e. not greyed out. But I did not need to click on it at that point because the files were being copied to the Library of the new computer.
I then followed the article I mention above to get my playlists transferred as well. All is good after a very frustrating morning of research. There are many posts on forums about the "greyed out" issue; none of the answers I could find worked for me.  This did. 3,000 songs and all in their proper playlists!

  • Running two VI's at once, with shared GPIB Resource - How to...

...keep mouse pointer within the confines of one VI's front panel?
Hello, a LV newbie here.  Here's my situation.
I have a "Main" LV program that uses a GPIB-controlled DMM (Keithley 2700) to take a scan of current measurements.   However, before taking the current measurements, the source voltage must first be calibrated.  So I came-up with a quick program to continuously read the voltage while you're adjusting the potentiometer.  It uses the same DMM.  I have a Boolean indicator on the front panel of this small program that indicates that the DMM is busy, and the Main Program "Current Scan" should not be attemped.  It is impractical to stop either program -- they both run continuously and are open side-by-side.
***So I try to wait for my "Meter Busy" indicator to go out on the small program before pressing the "Current Scan" button on the main program.***
But, being human, sometimes I jump-the-gun and press the "Current Scan" button on the main program before the voltage-read program has relinquished control.  The resulting conflict is not good.
Is there a way to keep the mouse pointer confined to within the bounds of the small program so long as the "Meter Busy" light is on?  I already have the right conditions and timing.   I just need to tie-into that Boolean wire somehow and eliminate human error.  That would completely solve my problem.
    Thanks in advance!

    Use more cheese...
Why not make the calibration VI a subVI of the main program. It can run in parallel and have both panels open if you wish. Use semaphores to limit access to the shared resource.
Or put both functions into one VI. Use a tab control to display the voltage calibration until it is valid then switch to the current measurements. If the user cannot see both, then he can't push the wrong button.
Or make the calibration VI a pop-up subVI. If it is made modal you cannot get to the Main VI until you complete the pop-up.
Use a single VI to do the actual communications with the instrument. Set it up so that once one VI has started an operation (such as the calibration), other VIs cannot use the instrument until the operation is complete. See Ben's posts on Action Engines for ideas about implementation.

  • How do I use home sharing between 2 PCs to transfer my itunes library music?

I have turned on homesharing on both my old and new computer but it won't transfer the music i have uploaded and downloaded to my new computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hey Louisebun,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines the steps of moving music to a new computer using Home Sharing. It is good to note that this option allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. To create a lasting backup, use an external drive or CDs or DVDs.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
I've highlighted some of the key steps below:
    On your new computer:
    7. Click the Store menu and choose Authorize computer. Enter your Apple ID and password (that was listed in the Advanced menu in step three or used in step 5).
    8. Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
    9. Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes.
Note: Once Home Sharing is enabled, the Home Sharing option disappears from the left side of iTunes until a Home Share library is found from another computer.
    10. Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
    11. Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
    12. Wait for the content to finish transferring.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I tried home sharing between 2 PC's.

I stopped it because it took so long time. This resulted in several folders on both computers have been locked - access denied! Any idea of why and how I fix it?
