  • Transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows

I need to migrate users from Mac (CS 5.5) to Windows 7 (CS 6). I have tried to transfer a user's custom keyboard shortcut set by copying the .indk file to the appropriate folder on the PC, and although it shows up in the list, when I try to select the set I get an error saying it is in the wrong format or the file could be damaged. Is there a way of transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows?

Shortcut sets seem to be human-readable text files, so you could try making a copy and doing some editing, changing cmd to ctrl and opt to alt, and change the platform value in the first line to "win" though I can't make any promise it will work.
There are also some known problems trying to migrate legacy sets into newer versions of ID since CS5, I think.

  • HT4889 How do I get the files that transferred from my old mac to this new mac to all merge so I am not using 2 set ups? In other words, I have stuff on the "new mac" and everything else on the "old mac" even though they are on the same computer.

I need to merge my files that were transferred from my old mac to my new mac - for some reason I now have 2 separate setups on my new mac.  I need everything merged to one account.
    Thanks!

Did you use Migration Assistant? If you set up your new Mac first, you created a user account and when you used MA later, it transferred over the old one. The only way to avoid that is to use Setup Assistant at the beginning of the setup. I used MA once and spent a long time getting rid of duplicates - you can either do that manually or start over: use recovery (Command + R or Command + Option + R keys) during startup, go to Utilities > Disk Utility, erase your disk and download/install again. While going through the setup, use Setup Assistant - it will port over your one and only user account rather than create another.

  • I have a macbook white (Snow leopard), just started using mac, Is there anyway we can use the Iphone Apps( downloaded from ITune) on Mac

I have a macbook white (Snow leopard), just started using mac, Is there anyway we can use the Iphone Apps( downloaded from ITune) on Mac, they are getting saved in Mobile applications and have ipa extension

The operating systems for iOS devices and for Macs are completely different. Applications written for iOS won't run on a Mac no matter what fiddles you try with it. You can sometime extract data by opening the package, but it still won't do you any good. Look in the Mac App Store in your Applications folder to see if there are Mac versions or similar programs (iTunes login required).

  • Can I share ring tones or alert tones purchased from iTunes between mobile devices?

Does anyone know if there is a way to share ring tones or alert tones purchased from iTunes between mobile devices?  I purchased them on my iPhone and they come up on my computer but I cannot transfer them to my iPad.  Is it possible to share them between mobile devices like any other song?

If you just want to select the whole song as your ringtone (without cutting out the best part) go to your computer and check were the file is saved. When found create a copy of it and rename its extension from m4a to m4r. Now drag&drop that file into itunes and there is your ringtone

  • ITunes Partial Playback of Songs after Library Transferred from PC to Mac

I recently attempted to transfer the individual iTunes folders of music from my PC running Windows XP using a flash drive to my new Macbook Pro. I imported the songs via iTunes directly from the flash drive into iTunes. After doing this the songs will only play partially before changing to the next song. The entire track is there and will play if I manually click the playback scroll beyond the stopping point. Is there anyway to fix this bug in iTunes?

See Make a split library portable. A portable library can be stored entirely on an external drive and moved between Mac and Windows computers. iTunes takes a little longer to open the library the first time after each switch. If your drive is currently formatted to NTFS then you will need an additional driver to enable OS X to write to the drive, or simply clone the library to an HFS+ drive.

  • Transfering book from iTunes on Mac to iPhone

I purchased a book from iTunes store some time ago. I see it in the list of books in iTunes on my Mac but I cannot select it so that I can download it into my iphone.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, you can get to the book ...
Using iTunes on your computer, go to Store > Authorize This Computer from iTunes' menu.
Then enter that old Apple ID and password.
Then sync your device and you'll be all set!

  • Transferring from Ipod to Mac

Having changed from a PC to a Mac when I've connected my Ipod and logged in it's only transferred my purchases from Itunes, and not all the songs I'd copied off my own CDs onto the Mac. So now I only have about 40 songs on the pC and over 400 on the Ipod. Any suggestions please. Not recopying them either, because having assumed I'd be using an Ipod forever I sold the CDs on Ebay. Any suggestions please. Thanks

For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Sync iTunes between Macs

    Hi,
how can I sync my music library betwenn my MacBook and MacMini? I'ts easy to sync my iPhone and iPad but I can't find out how it works from one Mac to another.
    Thanks!
    P.

it is correct that people suggest Home Sharing or iCloud, both have their pros and cons.
the reality is that iTunes cannot "sync" among computers / devices the way we natually perceive.
it is to do with Apple's control of copyright purchases, and i think Apple is still working out its Cloud strategy or feature (and in my opinion, it will never match the level of services Google can offer).
with HomeSharing, you can see the shared contents on another device, but there is no syncing and you have to copy manually. also, both devices have to be on the same WiFi network. i won't be able to see shared contents if I am using public WiFi in Starbucks with my MacBook while my iMac is at home on WiFi. but there seems to be a problem to access shared contents on iMac or MB (I am using Lion OSX on both), with devices using IOS6.
with iCloud, the catch is "Purchased" via iTunes Store for music and movies. if I got some music from internet or friend and add to iTunes on iMac, it won't sync to my iTunes on MB.  it will only sync if I purchased music from iTunes ... or you pay to use iTunes Matches services which try to recognize your music library (i think the same applies and Apple will have a way to make sure it is a legal copy) and then push to download to your devices. of course, this does not apply to Pictures, but then you have to pay to use iCloud if you need storage beyond 5GB.
so it is a choice between sync (multiple copies but you can access offline because they are physically stored on your device) and share (one copy but you need internet connection (to the same network for HomeSharing).
I am sure all these are careful calculation and conscious design from Apple ...
and that's the tradeoff you have when you are tied to Apple ecosystem ...
i can see thw way some of these things work are already out of touch.
that is probably because Apple is mainly selling products (hardware and software), instead of services.
e.g. i don't need multiple copy of the same content, just because i have several devices.
ideally, we want one copy, and then able to access any type of content, anywhere, anytime, with any devices.
that's the way to go in my opinion, whether Apple is doing it or not.

  • Not all songs transferred from iTunes to iPod

iPod touch 3G, intel iMac (Leopard).
The iTunes library has just been rebuilt with all files present and correct, cover art etc and AFAIK all tunes play OK. (Took ages, but it's all good!)
    1. Removed all songs from iPod
    2. Updated OS to 5.0.1
    3. Synced all music to iPod from iTunes. At the start I got a message saying that "This computer is not authorised to play some songs and they will not be transferred". However the iMac is of course authorised, and all the songs were either bought through iTunes on the iPod and transferred (over the last 2 years) or bought direct to the iMac, or ripped from personal CDs.
    4. Unchecked "sync all songs", switched to "manually manage music" and put them on manually. Same result but without the above message apperaing.
There's 7503 songs on iTunes and only 7431 on the iPod.
    Two questions:
Does anyone know why this should be?
Is there an easy way of finding out which songs are missing? I've checked the ones I remember purchasing on the iPod originally, and they're all there.

You go to iTunes>file>move folder 2 library then you slect the folder your songs that you downloaded r in and click ok.
And more you can follow this tutorial about how to tranfer music from computer to iPod.
    Cheer.

  • Books transferred from Itunes to Ibooks loses author and category information.

How can I get author and category information for pdfs to transfer from itunes into the ibooks app on Mavericks?  I just transferred my book collection from itunes to the ibooks app and have lost all the author and category information that I entered on all my pdfs.  Do I now have to re establish this info in ibooks app?  Ibooks doesn't appear to allow for creation of new categories or editing of author's name when it assigned unknown to all my pdfs.  My book library appears to have been seriously downgraded by this "upgraded" os.

totally agree with you. Exactly the same here.
you can't re-establish this info in iBooks because it doesn't allow you to do it. No editing and organising at all (except from moving into a section of your choice).
In addition to no editing/changing, no backup/restore, no books/pdf location settings (all placed in user-library), etc. ... simply a complete disaster.
For me a killer-criteria to use OSX Mavericks! That forces me to move back to OS X mountain lion!
What did the Apple iBooks dev team think when creating this application? Come on this can't be true!

  • Songs not transferring from iTunes to iPod puzzle

I update my iPod fairly regularly (mostly for podcasts) and I've noticed recently that a small number of songs aren't being transferred to my iPod when I sync it.
I converted one song that wasn't transferring from an mp3 format to an aac but still no joy. The songs play fine in iTunes and I've tried a manual update in just transferring the one song but that hasn't worked either.
    Any ideas anyone?

The songs that are not appearing on your ipod, are they from artists that you have multiple songs? If so, I believe I might know the problem. There is a bug, and I will explain it the simplest way I know how to.
Let's say that I have 3 songs by Led Zeppelin, "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog", and "Moby Dick". Now, if I gave "Black Dog" a album title, and I left the other two blank, on your ipod it will skip the album select screen and go straight to "Black Dog", preventing you from selecting the other two. This will also happen if you have 2 songs (let's say "Whole Lotta Love" and "Moby Dick") labeled with the same album title, while your other songs are unlabeled.
To fix this problem, you must either give another song from the specific artist a different album title from the other labeled ones. Then the ipod will go to the album select screen, and allow you to select "All" which will display all of your labeled and unlabeled songs.
    I hope this helps.
