HT202213 Trying to download "Home Sharing" on my MacBook Pro

I can't find the "Advanced" icon.  Where can I look?

I'm having trouble understanding your questions.  First of all, you don't "download Home Sharing"; home sharing is built into iTunes.  Second, it's not an advanced option.
To turn on home sharing, go to iTunes->Preferences->sharing, and enable it.
The "advanced" settings are another tab under preferences, but you shouldn't need it.

  • HT202213 Trying to activate home sharing with new iTunes update, says error #5506, any ideas?  Worked great before this update!

I'm trying to use home sharing with the latest iTunes update.  Keep getting error message 5506-any idea how to resolve this error and share at home?

Well, I tried a few other things and one worked but again just the first time I tried connecting to the desktop PC with iTunes. I flashed my router with the latest update and the ATV2 could see the iTunes library and I was able to play media. Later in the day I was going to show off to my daughter that I had fixed it and, to my dismay, no go. I tried opening the suggested ports but no luck.
I then tried loading iTunes on a Win7 laptop and it works perfectly with the ATV2. Both the laptop and the ATV2 are connected to the router wirelessly while the Desktop is connected to the router by Ethernet. Not sure if this is part of the issue as it sounds like this didn't work for others. The only other difference between the laptop and desktop is that the desktop has Win7 SP1 loaded while the laptop does not; now I'm scarred to load it though I don't think that's the issue. All in all, a very vexing situation. Hopefully Apple comes up with a solution soon.

  • I am trying to download windows 7 on my macbook pro but it keeps saying the disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.

Its all in the title. I am trying to use bootcamp to download windows 7 on my macbook pro mountain lion, but I keep getting this error. I tried going to Disk Utility, and my active volume already is formatted under Mac OS Extended (Journaled), so I don't know how to fix it. I already backed up the volume on an external harddrive. Also, everything under the volume I wanted to edit is greyed out, and when I try to restore the backup that I created via time machine, it pops up with another error that says "Could not unmount volume "/" (Resource Busy).
Please be gentle, I'm used to using windows and don't know like anything about computers. If someone could give me a detailed explanation for these errors and a solution of how I could correctly download windows on my mac I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

    Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • I keep trying to download my photos to my MacBook Pro, when I insert my disc I get this response: You inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have been trying to download photo's from a CD onto my MacBook pro but when I insert the disc I get this box that pops up onto my screen:  You inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore. Is there a way to fix this so I can use my photo's?

Bummer. Could be a problem with the MBP drive. Are you using Re-writable discs maybe?
Check the discs work in your HP machine. They may have burnt but not successfully. Your HP machine may not be able to open them either.
Have you considered using a USB flash device to transfer the photos, or just copy them over your home network? CD is a slow an cumbersome method.

  • Home Sharing issues with MacBook Pro Early 2010

I'm having problems with home sharing. I can't connect to my MacBook Pro(Lion 10,7,2) library using my iPhone or iPad. My PC(Windows 7)  connect without problems, but with my MBP the iPhone 4 or iPad 2 fall in infinity load(both with iOS 5),
I tried format my MBP. After formatted, I was able to use home sharing in MBP, few hours later the home sharing stopped working.
This problem isn't only with home sharing. I can't connect to a FTP server, use AirVideo, AirPlay, share files in network....
I have already called to Apple Brazil, but they don't know what's Home Sharing.
    Does anybody can help me?

    Hi,
Face Time works in Snow Leopard.
EZ Jim (A fellow Poster) tells me that the Original blurb for the Beta version said 10.6.4 at least.
The Current version is purchasable through the Mac App store and that should have been placed on your Snow Leopard Dock some updates ago.
I have the beta Installed on a 2007 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. (Internal iSight Camera version 1,1)

  • Home sharing iMac and MacBook Pro: not all songs are playable

    Hello
I set up Home Sharing between my iMac and MacBook Pro so that I could stream the music that's on the iMac to the MacBook Pro. On the MBP there are no songs, all of them are in Apple Lossless format on my iMac. I first tried to use "‘share my library on my local network" but because I wanted the play count to go up as well I chose for "Home Sharing". Setting up was simple. After all preferences were adjusted, I opened iTunes on the MBP and it immediately found the shared iMac library. There's now only one problem: not all songs are playable. Some don't even start. How is this possible and what do I need to do to resolve this?
FYI: the iMac is connected via ethernet to my cable modem which sends a wireless Wi-Fi signal to the MBP. Signal quality is excellent.
Also, is it possible that playcount is only available with Home Sharing and not with "share my library on my local network"?
    Thanks!

It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing only detects Macbook Pro but not iPads

    Hello
My Apple TV (2nd gen) will only detect my Macbook Pro on Home Sharing. I have two iPads (1st gen and iPad Mini) both updated to the latest iOS but they just wont show up on apple TV home sharing.
    Any thoughts?
The software on all devices is up to date, and all devices are connected to the same network.

Your first generation iPad is only capable of basic AirPlay, instruction for basic AirPlay are:
Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Your problems on the iPad mini, indicate a network problem at your end, perhaps the distances are too great or you have interference on your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Home sharing on my macbook pro

I can't get home sharing to work with my macbook pro... The problem is that i want to link to my new apple TV and it just won't do it!
I can't find any advise that is working, anyone else figured this out before?

Just chiming in to say I have this problem, too.
My equipment: I have a MacBook Air and an iMac desktop computer.
I want to turn on sharing so I can share music libraried between the two machines.
I'm signed in to the same iTunes account on both machines.
I've updated both iTunes to version 11.1.1.
I've ensured my firewalls are not set up incorrectly according to Apple's instructions on the subject.
I've set up home sharing in iTunes preferences to share with no password required and I've tried to share both with and without the "update play counts" box ticked.
I've rebooted both computers twice each.
Nothing works. Nothing. Neither iTunes shows the other computer's library.
    Please help!

  • Trying to download windows vista premium on macbook pro

i just bought windows vista premium from microsoft market place then tried to download it .... not working ... please advise

In order to install Windows Vista using Boot Camp on a Mac you will need the disk version, as the install process will not be able to read the downloaded files from the Mac drive.
If the download hasn't downloaded then you may wish to check with Microsoft.

  • Please help! error message when trying to download pictures from iphone5 to macbook pro

    Hello everyone,
lately I have been having some issues when trying to download pictures from my iphone to my iphoto library. Whenever I try to do so this message pops up "The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format." Would anyone happen to know why this is happening? I was always able to transfer my pictures from my phone to my laptop before, so I don't know why this is happening now.
Thank you very much to whomever might be able to solve this problem for me!!

"The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format."
if you look at the error message - is the filename mentioned? What kind of file is it? A JPEG? A video?
Can you import the files from your iPhone with Image Capture?

  • Trying to get Home Sharing to work

    Hi all,
So I've turned on Home Sharing on my MacBook Pro. I loaded iTunes on my daughter's Dell laptop and turned on Home Sharing. I want to transfer some of my music library to her computer.
iTunes on my MBP properly shows the existence of her (I suppose empty) library as shared. On her laptop, likewise, iTunes acknowledges the existence of my library. The problem is this. When, on her machine, I click on my library in the "shared" section, iTunes momentarily shows "accessing [my name]'s library, but then it stops and reverts to doing nothing and showing no music.
I've consulted the instructions, but it's not clear to me what I'm supposed to be dragging and dropping and *on whose machine*. Also, I can't quite figure out how to populate a window so that the "import" function would work.
Is there a good step-by-step on this? Could it be a firewall issue on my daughter's machine?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem with my new 2011 MacBook Pro 17" after my AppleTV was updated (I bought it Saturday and it worked until the AppleTV downloaded the update). I discovered that there was a new update to OS X (10.6.7) available via the software updates feature. After applying the update, everything is working perfectly -- I was able to play audio and video on the AppleTV from my MacBook.
I don't know if this will fix every problem, but it seems to fix the issue with the new MacBook Pro's.
