Forgot System password for Macbook Pro ….HELP

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.

  • Not recognising user login password MacBook Pro

Hey people hope you can help! After installing new hard drive and transferring time machine data, my MacBook Pro is Refusing to recognise my password even after I have reset it using the startup disk. I enter user password on my admin user account and it goes blue briefly as if beginning load but the. Returns back to selecting user and entering password. It really strange as it does not say password incorrect its almost like it trying to load but can't. Any suggestions please?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Forgot login password

hey guys! i just came home from a trip and before i left i changed my macbook pro 2011 password... stupid thing to do if you ask me, because now that i'm  home i forgot the password. It's driving me crazy, i've tried numerous times with different combinations of what " I think" it could be.. but nothing. Any ideas on how to reset it?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • Can't Login to Macbook Pro

Let's make this short and sweet, shall we?
I just got a replacement Macbook Pro tonight, since my other one was stolen.
Setting it up at the Apple Store, everything worked perfectly fine and it was doing well.
I get home, try to login using my Account and Password and....nope. Not letting me login, not letting me reset my password as it will not accept my Apple ID password either. I dunno why. I've tried restarting it multiple times, and typing in the password multiple times. It doesn't work.
    Mac OS X Lion.
Anyone got any ideas on how to help me? I'm not completely sure of my computer password (like 99%) but I am 100% sue of my Apple ID and password, and its not accepting those either. Its telling me I'm wrong and won't let me in past the log in screen.
    Help, please?

Hold command r  and boot, use the terminal
    resetpassword
    press enter.

  • Cannot login to macbook pro

I recently ran into a problem...  I cannot log into my MacBook Pro.  I know my password, but it doesn't work.  I enter it, press Enter, and then it looks like the machine is loggin me in - but them dumps me back at the login screen.  I've reset the password.  I've repaired the disc through RecoveryHD.  All to no avail.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi h8inmyMBP,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you can't log in to your user account, try logging in with your login items disabled:
OS X Mountain Lion: Open items automatically when you log in
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11177
Temporarily prevent items from opening automatically when you log in
If you see the login window, press the Shift key while you click the Log In button, and then release the Shift key when you see the Dock.
If you don’t see the login window, start your computer, hold down the Shift key when you see the progress bar in the startup window, and then release the Shift key after your desktop appears.
If you're able to log in with this method, see the steps in the article above to "Permanently prevent an item from opening automatically when you log in."
If you're not able to log in with the above method, try booting into safe mode next:

  • Password macbook pro.....

I've just got my macbook pro back from retail, where they've put in a new HD.when i start my mac,it shows the apple sign,a circle with a owl in and a window where i have to put in a password! Where can i find that password?I've never had to fill in a pass before so i don't have a clue what it could be?Without it,it,s not possible to start up my mac.... :(

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
You must back up all data before continuing, unless you've already done so. If you need to back up but can't log in, ask for instructions.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select

  • I don't know my administrative password macbook pro

I just downloaded osx mavericks and it's asking for an administrative password.  I don't remember ever putting one on, but I bought it with everything installed and moved over from mp old macbook pro so maybe the place I bought it put one on.  They have no record of that though so I can't do this installation.  How can I get that password?

If you have 10.6 installed, you should boot from your OS X install DVD (hold down C on boot up) and use the Reset password menu to change it.
If you have 10.7 or 10.8 installed, reboot from your recovery partition (hold cmd and R as you reboot), go to Terminal in the utilities menu, and type "resetpassword". Follow the directions.

i dont know my password for the logging on into my macbook pro, what should i do

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Reset Password from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Reset Password.
