How do you delete songs or artists

Good morning drufromottawa,
In order to remove a song or group of songs from your iPod nano, you need to sync it manually with iTunes on your computer, removing the songs you do not want from the set of songs you want to sync. See this manual for instructions on how to do so -
manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1624/en_US/ipod_nano_user_guide.pdf
Page 16 is the important part for your task.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best,

    Hi, Mrs.Frankie57.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

  • How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?

How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?  My son's ipod automatically synced all the songs in my library to his ipod which he now wants to get rid of.  Is there a way to delete them all without me having to erase my library?

Do not select the songs to sync, then sync.

  • On Ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the iPhone

on ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the phone

    i think i stumbled onto a solution.
the upgrade to os7 brought a bunch of music into my phone i didn't care to hear anymore.
(free downloads from the itunes twitter feed..some of them are good, most of them i normally delete immediately)
i had 3 pesky songs that would not allow me to delete.
every other song in my library gave me the option to delete, just not the ones i never wanted to hear again.
..super frustrating when the song keeps starting over everytime you touch it while scrambling for a delete option.
they were purchases which i'd hidden.
i plugged to computer and tried to use iTunes to delete but they did not appear.
all "show all" options for music and video were off.
    itunes match was off.
    all automatic downloads were off.
    "show all music" was off.
i logged out of my apple ID for several minutes.
i think this may have given time for my account to resynchronize the items i didn't want to see anymore.
i've logged back in and they're still gone.
i don't care if i hear a new eric clapton song again for the rest of the year thank you.

With iOS 4 and earlier you connect to computer and unsync. Wither later iOSs you swipe left or right and tap the Delete button that appears.

How do you delete songs from an iphone 4?  Some how an album that I bought on itunes doubled the songs on my phone.

You can do this with iOS5 phones.
scroll to any song on the list you wish to delete
Swipe left or right with 1 finger
a "Delete" button in red will appear
Same with hiding purchases in your app store app, flick left or right to and tap hide to remove it from the list
    Does it work?

  • How do you delete songs from your ipod???

How do i delete songs on my ipod

How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically then delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will automatically be deleted from your iPod. Highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard, or right click and choose either Clear or Delete, depending on which version of iTunes you are using.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and click on the icon when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron ( the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod

For earlier iOS yo have to connect to computer and unsync them

  • In iOS 7.04, how do you delete songs?

When I upgraded to iOS 7.04, I gained a lot of songs that I don't want and would like to delete but  I can't seem to "swipe" them away.  They don't show up in iTunes when I connect the phone to my Mac either.  How do I delete them?

Is there a little cloud icon next to the song? If so it isn't on your phone, but it's available to be downloaded. If you don't want to see songs not on your phone go to Settings/Music and turn off Show All Music.

  • How do you delete songs on your iPhone without using iTunes on your computer? Swiping to the left or right won't work on mine.

I've tried deleting my songs but it didn't work. It worked last time. Sliding it wont work anymore. I've spent hours trying to figure out how to delete songs.

Swiping left to right or right to left should work if you're in the right place.
For example, try it in Music > Songs (button in lower right).

  • How do you delete songs on iTune that are NOT on the library?

I got a new computer few days ago, and I downloaded iTune on my new computer today.
I want to delete all my songs that are in my iPod Touch now, and want to buy other songs.
I don't have any songs in my library at the moment, since there's no song in my new computer now.
So I want to delete songs, but since I don't have any of those songs in the library, I can't delete them. (I can't delete them since they are not on the library.)
Are there any ways I can delete songs that are NOT on the library?

You don't want to keep the songs that are on your iPod touch, in your library?
You can keep them in your library and not put them on the touch.
Then you can purchase other songs and put those on the touch.

  • How do you delete songs that are in your iTunes?

I have imported many song into my iTunes but i would like to get rid of some of them and i dotn listen to them.
Is there any way of removing them altogether from iTunes or am i stuck with them????

If I'm understanding your question correctly you just want to delete songs from your itunes account.  Go into your main music library, hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard, and while doing that, click on any songs that wish to permanently delete.  When you've got those highlighted, let go of the CTRL button, right click on any of the highlighted songs, choose delete, and then confirm what you want to do.  You can't do this from a playlist.  It has to be from the main music library.  Hope that's what you're looking for.

  • HT5772 How do you delete songs

I need help deleting songs off my ipod

You might be able to delete them directly on it by swiping across their names in the Music app on the songs selection screen, either from right-to-left or left-to-right depending upon the iOS version on it.
Or conenct the iPod to your computer and on the left-hand sidebar select Music under the device's name (on iTunes 11 you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC)
And then use the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and delete the tracks that you no longer want on it.
If they are iTunes purchases which you bought directly on your iPod then you may first want to copy them over to computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, music can't be redownloaded in all countries (and there is no guarantee that it will remain in a country's store for future redownloading).

  • How do you delete songs from iphone5, that are not in your iTunes library on the computer?! I have the spot unchecked where it says show all music and I still have songs on my iPhone that I want gone, but they're not in my iTunes library...HELP

I have a iPhone 5 with the most up to date software and I have songs appearing on my phone that I've deleted prior too from iTunes on the computer. How do I remove them from my phone, I've tried the left to right swipe and that just plays the songs! :/ Can anyone help me, I'd be forever grateful if I didn't have to go back to the store! I went I today abc he unchecked the show all music and there's still songs I don't want on my iPhone! :(

The answer to the question in the title of the thread is yes, but it is not necessarily a good idea. At some point you are likely to find you need to restore your iPod for one reason or another, or it could be lost, stolen or damaged. If your songs aren't on your computer, and backed up too, then you will be less than happy.
