HT202618 Why do I see other Apple TVs under speakers?

Under Speakers in AirPlay settings and on my iPhone when initiating airplay, I see up to 2 other AppleTV that aren't mine. I live in a condo so I suspect they are my neighbours. Is there any way to prevent my devices from connecting to or recognizing these other devices? It seems to occasionally interrupt AirPlay when one of these come online.

Great, so now I have to airplay it by linking my computer to my Apple TV and then the movie has to buffer! So, all that time I spent downloading the HD video has to technically "download" again by buffering. The more I use Apple TV, the more I feel like this item was not created by Apple. I don't even use it for what I originally purchased it for. If I would have known that anytime I wanted to sync a movie from my computer to Apple TV by using airplay that it would have to buffer the movie, I would have never ever ever ever ever purchased this waste of time device. So the video has to technically play all the way through one time first so Apple TV can "remember" the movie to play it back in real time afterwards.
Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong that can be fixing my problem? I should have known that the Apple TV had so many things backwards when simple things like when you are using the remote and you reach the bottom of your list, in order to cycle back to the top of your list you have then press the directional buton back the other way rather than most modern day devices that will automatically cycle you back to the top or to the other side when you reached the bottom or end but keep on pressing the button. That **** annoys me when I am doing a search for a movie and have to type the name in manually and have to cycle back and forth to the letters. It makes me feel like I am using a rotary phone or something!

I was told by someone to try and purchase something directly from my Apple TV and that will help authorize my Apple TV. So I picked something that was free and it downloaded.
Then I went back to the Movie that would not work and it played just fine.
So it seemed to work. I will have to try it on other movies and TV shows later.

Ok problem solved; signing out of iTunes account and signing back in solved it.

Why can I see other peoples' WiFi networks but not my own?

This is a problem that started when an engineer came to replace our TV's set top box as well as our router a few weeks ago. I'll run through everything in quick bullet-point form...
-My flatmates are able to see and connect to our network with no issues at all on their XP laptops.
I, on the other hand, can not see or connect to our network at all. However, I am able to see other WiFi networks.
-Days of rebooting and replugging the router, my iMac and AirPort card prove fruitless.
-Throughout all this, the router is sat on top of the set top box, which is sat on top of the TV. I move the router down so its sat next to the TV and a plant. I'm able to see and connect to our network with no issues.
-Three weeks later, the problem has returned. I can't see our network but my flatmates aren't affected.
-Thinking it may just be poor reception in my room, I set up my Mac in the front room a couple of feet away from the router. I detect other networks, but still not my own.
-More unplugging and rebooting later, hallelujah, I can see and connect to our network. I take the Mac back to my room and try from there. No luck. The familiar XBoxLive8973498374, BT-HomeHub8934897, TalkTalk439847 (etc) and Sofia networks come up in my networks list as usual but not our own SpeedTouch459873439847 (etc).
We have a Thomson ST 585 router and I have an iMac G4 with the original AirPort card. Short of buying a new router, does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Our network is the one labelled SpeedTouch. As you can see, my AirPort antenna seems to be working perfectly. However, the SpeedTouch connection (and only the Speedtouch connection) would be lost intermittently for several minutes at a time.

The SpeedTouch signal strength is obviously not as strong but still reasonable. I don't seem to have any issues anymore; I can see, connect and stay connected to our network with no real problem - but I haven't changed any settings on the router.

Why do I see other users when I open Finder? Devices, Shared, Places...

When I see "shared" and a user's name is listed, I assume they cannot see my files - but rather - they are only listed on the 'network' as a user that is in the area...is that correct?

If this is your own private home network, then they are a user on your network.
That most likely means they are using your network and internet connection.
If you are password protected they can't see your files but real hackers can blow through most passwords.
You might consider changing your network to require a password to use your network.
This will stop others from using your network and your bandwidth on the internet.
Edit:
If this not your network and is a network on the road then it is normal to see other users on the network.

See other apple ID when I logging into new device

Q: How to stop someone's apple Id from showing up on my login?
Observations:
Just got an Ipad Air II for Xmas and when I was setting it up it asked for login to Icloud but my wife's id showed up in the user name. This was right out the box...weird.
So if finished set up and attached it to my apple ID/account and confirmed it shows up on my apple support profile (https://supportprofile.apple.com). However everyday it asks me to log in with my apple id and my wife's ID shows up in the default username.
My wife never logged into the device, that said I went and turned off/restarted all icloud, messaging, facetime etc from the Ipad and restarted. Confirmed my wife does not show the Ipad in her apple support profile as well. Still no luck.
Any idea why my wifes apple ID shows up in my apple ID login user name field every-time?

Why can' I see other Mac in Shared area of Finder

MBP with Snow Leopard
MP with Leopard
iMac with Leopard
The MBP shows the iMac and MP in the Shared area of the finder.
The MP show the iMac but not the MBP.
However, I can connect to the MBP by entering its IP address via Finder Connect to Server.
The MBP does show up in the MP's finder sometimes but I can't seem to figure out when or why. This is driving me nuts. Any ideas?

Why will iTunes see my Apple TV but not my Home Sharing?

Running a MacBook Pro and a Windows XP PC. Both find the Apple TV no problem, so pretty sure there is no network or firewall problem. But they won't see each other in Home Sharing? I see tons of posts on other blogs and am thinking there must be a glitch in iTunes 9 that is keeping this from working properly. Any insight Apple?

Yes, I've done everything that the Apple troubleshooting recommends. It's open on both computers, but as soon as I click done, it disappears. I've checked my firewall, I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I've rebooted computers, routers, etc. Nothing seems to work.

In Settings/General/Restrictions if you tap on Cellular Data Use there should be 2 options: Allow Changes or Don't Allow Changes. If you don't see these options is that where you see "Cellular data is turned off for 'Setting'?
Do you have a corporate MS Exchange email account on your phone? If so your administrator may have added an override on this setting.

Under "Recent Items" and "Servers" I am seeing Public Folders of people I do not know. I am not able to access or open their servers. Have they been able to access my computer? My settings are set to "File Sharing Off"

IPod doesn't mirror per se like iPad, but certain apps allow it. I use filmon for instance and the mirror icon appears when the video kicks in, but other apps such as iPlayer don't allow it. Fustrating.
Airplay does work though from iTunes.

Connect your iPad to iTune (computer) and Check for Updates. Backup before you proceed with update.
