HT202667 I am ditching my non-Apple email address and want to stop using it. My husband's ID is his icloud email, why can't mine be?

I don't want to run two email addresses and want to use my icloud email address for all correspondence. Itunes keeps sending me emails to my old address and it won't let me change my Apple ID to my icloud address. My husband's is using his without any issues. Is there a way round this?

I'm afraid not. While people who started with iTools or MobileMe had their @mac.com/@me.com (and now @icloud.com) address as the ID from the start, and people who open a new Apple ID and iCloud account at the same time from the iCloud preference pane can choose to make the @icloud.com address the ID, if it's the case that your ID is a non-Apple email address you can change it to another non-Apple email address but you cannot change it to your @icloud.com address.
You can of course set up forwarding from the ID address to the @icloud.com address so that you only have to look in one place. However you should be aware that if the setup means that you can only be contacted by Apple at the @icloud.com address, then if you have a problem such as a forgotten password or a corrupted account, Apple can only contact you at an address you cannot access so it's essential to have a 'rescue address'.

My email address seems to be linked to my wife's email address and that is stopping me from setting up my own Apple ID which is stoppoing me from using Face Time to speak with my wife when I am away from home.  How do I fix that?

Unlink your appleID from her account.  Have her sign in, and remove your ID from her account.  That should free it up.

  • Mail is changing my return email address and won't stop

I have 3 gmail addresses set up in Mail. Two are for 2 separate businesses and 1 is for personal. When sending a message, no matter which account I put in the return address box, when I get a reply it comes back to the inbox of my personal gmail address. All my business emails are being replied to my personal address and it's confusing my clients. It also makes it a pain to keep my business emails organized.
When I check the reply messages, they have been changed from my business return address to this personal address. This is really ticking me off. I just switched from a pc and was hoping the mac mail client was going to work better than Outlook but so far it is worse. I thought all this mac stuff was supposed to bug free, no crashes, etc., etc. So far I'm having some serious buyers remorse. It ain't living up to the reputation. I got a number of other issues but I'll keep this discussion to the mail thing.
    Help. Please.
    Thanks,
    Roy

I'm running OSX 10.7.2 btw. Mail is 5.1. I have a drop down box below the subject line in my "new message" that says "From" and I have a choice of any of the email addresses but no matter what I put in that line, replies always come back to the personal address. I've changed the preference in compose to one of my business email addresses and I think I'll just leave it like that and see what happens. Maybe after a day or 2 I'll change it back and see if it works properly then.
Found Library and mail preference file but I'm not ready to test dumping that and having to reload accounts again. If nothing changes, I'll give that a try.
Hey, thanks again for all the advice. It's been very helpful!

  • HT204053 My email address has changed.  My apple ID for iCloud is my old email address and I cannot remember the password. Verification is sent to my old email address and I cannot retrieve it.  Any suggestions

My email address has changed. I have my icloud acct sending stuff to an email that is no longer in service. I cannot remember the password and it keeps sending messages to an old email acct to try to change the password. Any suggestions.

Go to appleid.apple.com and click in the reset password option.  You maybe able to reset using the security questions option.  If you can't, contact support using expresslane.apple.com email option, or call the AppleCare support line.

  • I have recently changed my email address and want to change my iTunes account to it how can i do this

I recently closed my yahoo account which my icloud was linked to and I want to change it all to my new email account how can  i do this

This explains how to change your ID: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621.  After changing your ID you will need to go to Settings>iCloud, delete the existing account (which only deletes it from your device, not from iCloud), then sign back in with the new ID.  To avoid losing photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll before deleting the existing account.
If you are signed into your account on your Mac, you will need to go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.

  • My wife and I share the same email address and Apple ID.  We are not able to send and receive Text Messages to one another.

My wife and I share the same email address and Apple ID. We are not able to send and receive Text Messages to one another. Is the cause of this because we share the same Apple ID? Will we have to set up 2 separate primary email addresses to be able to  send and receive Tex Messages to one another? Like I said, we share the same email address and woul like to keep it that way to keep up with our email together. Is there a way to by-pass having to set up 2 primary emaill addresses if this is the problem?
    Thanks.

go to the settings and turn off imessage
but that don't change the issue that you will never be able to facetime eachtoher
the appleID is really meant as the handle that identify you it was not meant to be shared
but can see that people may want to do not buy apps more then once

  • Changing email address, and reconfiguring iCloud

Hey you guys! I recently changed the email address that I was using for my iCloud. Now my iPhone still has the iCloud information with my old email address, and to change that, it appears that I have to delete the iCloud account and re-add it. The only problem is: when I try to delete the account, it asks me for my iCloud password, but it's still linked to the old email address, so even though my password is correct, the email address no longer is, and thus it tells me that the password is incorrect, and I can't delete the account, and reconfigure iCloud on my phone. Suggestions s'il vous plait?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • Cannot update apps.  It keeps asking for an old email address and password and I can't seem to get rid of it.

I have everything running fine on my laptop with my new email address and password, but after using the sync feature, it still won't update the old apps on my iPad without using the old email.

That is how it is supposed to work. Apps and purchased content are always tied to the Apple ID that you bought it with. You will have to continue to use the old ID and password in order to update those apps.
You can sign in and out of the accounts in Settings>Store>Apple ID as needed.

  • In a Smart Group in AddressBook 6.1, how do I designate which email addresses I want to use?

In a Smart Group in AddressBook 6.1, how do I designate which email address I want to use for contacts who have more than one address when I'm mailing to the whole group? The "Edit Distribution List" is grayed out.

Thanks, Barney, but that's not really my question. The "Edit Distribution List" is in the Edit menu on my version, too, but I can't use it to edit the email addresses of contacts who are in Smart Groups. In the version of AddressBook I was using before I bought a new MacBook Pro and upgraded to Mac OSX Lion, I could use the "Edit Distribution List" to pick which email address I wanted to use for contacts in Smart Groups with more than one address. Apparently that isn't an option in Lion. The Help menus for AddressBook 6.1 even say that "Edit Distribution Lists" doesn't work for Smart Groups.
Okay. I get that. But some of my contacts have more than one email address, so how do I choose which email address I want Mail to use for these contacts when I send an email to a Smart Group they're in?

  • Email address and log in to bt

I have BT infinity . have signed up for my bt with my gmail account as my user name. i can get on to my bt etc. now i cant sign up for wifi or wireless because it asks for my yahoo or btinternet log in details. i havent got them. ive phoned bt they cant help.

When you signed up for infinity (or perhaps earlier BT Broadband) you picked a primary account username and password. You would have been sent 2 emails to that address confirming that username and password. You may be able to guess what choices you made.
You can check your guess by sending an email to that address. If that works you can then use the forgotten password mechanism.
If you ask BT they should be able to tell you what your primary email address is eg [email protected]  if you tell them your account number etc.
It is the primary email address and password that you use to login to BT Wifi.

I have two apple I.D., one with the .me email address I want, how can I delete it so that I can use that .me address on my other account
Or is it possible to transfer the purchases (apps) to my new .me account so that I can re-download them in the future without having to switch accounts?

You can't do this, and you can't transfer purchases between accounts. There is no conflict about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match (the ID you've been using for iTunes) and using the other ID for iCloud.

  • I have changed my apple email address and icloud is asking me to sign in under my old email then saying my password is incorrect how can i change it pls

I have changed my apple id but when i try to log into icloud etc it lists my old id therefore my password is wrong as there is no such account now, how do i change this to show my new id and get into my account

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Before my PC had iTunes, I loaded Aps from store onto my daughter's PC with iPad connected. I indicated my email address and Apple password. Now I want to upgrade to next iPad but Aps in my iPad are not on my PC iTunes. Do I have to buy again to keep them

I'm a new user of an iPad. Before my PC had iTunes (it does now), I loaded Aps from from the iStore using my daughter's PC with my iPad cable-connected. I indicated my email address and Apple password--not hers and paid for these Aps--receipts arrived via my email. Now I want to upgrade to 5.1 but the Aps now loaded on my iPad do not show up  on my PC iTunes library. When I click 'Upgrade' I get a warning message that says all Aps currently on the iPad will be obliterated in the process which of course I don't want to have happen because they're not showing up on my PC which presumably means my PC is not aware of what's on my iPad. Do I have to buy these same Aps again to keep them if I'm going to upgrade to 5.1, and how do I get my iTunes on my PC to back up the Aps currently loaded onto my iPad?

You should be able to copy the apps (and any other iTunes purchases) over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. And as long as apps remain available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to purchase them, you should be able to re-download them in the future : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you are already on iOS 5+ on your iPad then you should be able to update the iPad directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update .
