HT202806 Chrome for Mac automatically uninstalls iCloud Bookmarks extension

iCloud for Windows includes a Chrome extension that allows you to sync your Chrome bookmarks in Windows with your Safari bookmarks on your Mac.
There is a problem though. If you have Chrome installed on your Mac and run it, Chrome identifies that the extension is not compatible with Chrome for Mac and it then automatically and without asking uninstalls the extension. As extensions are synced across all your Chrome browsers across multiple platforms, when you next run Chrome for Windows, the extension also gets uninstalled, leaving you back where you started without the ability sync bookmarks.
This seems primarily to be an issue with the way Chrome handles compatible extensions, but thought I'd raise it here in case anyone else has noticed this and has any advice.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent Chrome from automatically removing the extension? Or maybe there is an option to stop cross-OS extension syncing. Simply never running Chrome again on my Mac is not an option as I require it in addition to Safari.

It's not necessary because iCloud bookmarks come from Safari. The extension is there so that you can sync your bookmarks from Safari on your Mac and easily access them using Chrome on your PC.
If you read the description for the extension, you would realize that.
Keep your Chrome bookmarks on Windows up to date with the Safari bookmarks on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Chrome can already sync bookmarks via Google that can be accessed using Chrome on another machine without the need for an extension. If you want to use Chrome on all your machines and sync the bookmarks, google already has you covered there.

  • I miss Opera, Expl and Chrome for Mac, can I add on my BrowserLab?

    Hi,
I would like to test my site in Opera Mac and Windows, Explorer and Chrome for Mac.
Is there any chance to put them in BrowserLab?
    thanks

While we are always looking at ways to improve our service, I would not expect to see these Browsers available in the near term.

  • HT204053 Can I see Excel and Word for Mac documents on icloud?

Can I see Excel and Word for Mac documents on icloud?

No, I already have Microsoft Office for Mac on my macbook and on my imac.  I want to share the documents from one (imac) to the other through Icloud.   But it doesn't show them as an option.   How do you share documents on one computer to the other within the same house?

  • HT5925 No Icloud bookmark extension for IE11

I used 1 hour yesterday to clean up in all my bookmarks which showed up after adding the iCloud bookmark sync to all browsers. I did this in Chrome. This morning they are all back to as they were, as much as I can tell in all browsers. I did all the checking and only in IE11 I cannot see any extensions. Do we agree that I should be able to edit my bookmarks in whatever browser on whatever computer and then they all look the same wherever I go? What to do?

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • Syncing Office for Mac Files with ICloud

I am using Office for Mac on both my iMac and Air.  I want to sync my Word, Powerpoint and Excel files between the computers using ICloud.  Can/how do I do this?

Office for Mac does not support iCloud.
You can save Office files to iCloud using Pages, Numbers and Keynote instead of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

  • Edit in Pages for Mac - Download from iCloud in Word format

Does anyone know if the following is a documented limitation?
Create a Pages document in Pages for iPad.
Log in to iCloud.com using Safari. You can download the document as a Word document. (Click on the document > click on the Download button > select "Word".)
Open the document in Pages for Mac.
Modify anything in the text and then Save the file.
Log in to iCloud.com using Safari. You can no longer download the document as a Word document. You can only download it as a Pages document.
(Steps 1 and 2 are not necessary to reproduce the problem. The limitation is there with a new dcument from Pages for Mac as well.)
Does anyone know if there is any easy work around or fix?
The quickest one I can think of is to open the document in Pages for Mac again and then export to Word. This is of course impossible if you are at a location where you do not have Pages for Mac.

    Hi Barry,
I think we have not understood each other.
Step 3 is not opening a completely "foreign" document. It is opening a Pages document created by Pages on the iPad. But ok, let's call it "slightly foreign", as the formats between the Mac and iPad versions clearly are not identical.
I do not get what you mean by "first time". What I would like to do is to edit a file freely on iPad and Mac back and forth to my heart's content several times. That I can do. In the end, once I am done with the file, I would like to export it to Word from iCloud using Safari or another browser. That I cannot do.
This export would mean I can open the file on a Mac without Pages or on a Windows PC. It would also mean that I can have files on the iCloud, editable from iPad or Mac, but only accessed from Windows, when I sit at the PC and discover the need to get the latest version.
That export works fine for documents I create with Pages for iPad, but as soon as I touch them with Pages for Mac, they can no longer be exported to Word from Safari.
    Regards
    Magnus

  • Can't sync Outlook for Mac Calendar with iCloud

I've just updated my Macbook Pro to OS X and now I can't get my Outlook for Mac 2013 (14.3.9) Calendar to sync with my iPhone 5.  It seems iTunes no longer allows for syncing calendars and it all has to happen via iCloud.  Is this correct?  How do I get them to sync, then?  I've looked in other discussions (from a while ago) and none of those fixes are working.  Thanks in advance!

Thank you, randers4.  Not the solution I wanted but I am glad to get an answer.  I'd thought that since the support articles I'd seen came out before the latest update (you're right, I do have 2011) that maybe there was a work-around.  Of course all of this has been discovered after I entered my three kids' baseball/softball practice and game schedules into Outlook.  Any quick and dirty way to transfer it all over?
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer me.  Copious amounts of time has been wasted on this issue and I'l be glad to move forward.
    Warmly,
    Sara

  • I want to change the file location for the automatic backup file bookmarks.file, but I can't find browser.bookmarks.file in the list on the about:config page.

I asked about automatic backup of bookmarks and received the following answer:You can make Firefox 3 create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML] to true on the about:config page. That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and path via the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file browser.bookmarks.file] on the about:config page. I went to about:config page and toggled browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to “Yes” and it’s working. However, I want to change the file location, but I can’t find browser.bookmarks.file in the list.

The browser.bookmarks.file preference does not exist by default. Right-click in about:config and select "New > String" to create it.

  • Spell-chech on Chrome for Mac

I have a Macbook 2010 OS X 10.9.5. I have recently changed my default browser to Chrome and I find that I now don't have the spell-checker that I used to have with Safari. how do I switch on the automatic spell-checker on my Mac with Chrome?

Hello jdtweiss and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
So this spell check was within the browser itself? In Google?
So meaning you would just type something in and the browser would autocorrect your typing?
Crome already does that when I'm Googling something. (Actually the most searched item in Google is people looking for the correct spelling of something!)
It tries to guess what I'm searching for based on a algorithm of what everyone in the English language is searching for when they type that series of letters.
It even guesses right if I miss the correct first letter.

  • Reader NPAPI 32 bit plugin doesn't work in 64 Bit Chrome for Mac

    Good morning -
I am being told by some Chrome experts that the 32 bit NPAPI plug in for Adobe Reader is not compatible with 64 Bit Chrome on the Mac. Can anyone confirm this? I'm getting consistent problems on all my Macs running Chrome and Reader - when attempting to view PDFs inline in Chrome I get a message saying that I have to open Reader, and accept the EULA to do so; doing that does not change the issue.

Yea! I'm having the same problem over here!

  • Change registered AppleID for mac when using iCloud

I have two Apple-IDs. The first is old and outdated, so I want to use the second. According to support.apple.com my MacBook Pro is registered on my second AppleID, which is good. However, when I open iCloud at "System Preferences" on my Mac - the first AppleID appears! How is this possible when supprt.apple.com says the mac is registered on the second? Do I have to change something on the mac itself?
Appreciate the help, thank you : )

I'm guessing you're referring to supportprofile.apple.com?  This has nothing to do with iCloud.
    "How is this possible..."
Easy.  That's the apple id you signed into the icloud preferences with.
If you want to use your other apple id for icloud, sign out of the iCloud preferences and sign in with the one you want.  Keep in mind, certain information will remain with the currently used apple id... You'd have to backup and restore the data to the new apple id.
Ideally, you want to use one apple id for everything, but you can use a different one for icloud and another for apple purchases.  Just don't spread purchases among multiple apple ids.  If you continue to use two different apple ids, you'll want to have an active email attached to the other one outdated one.

  • Pages for Mac needs an iCloud button to replace "Share"

    HERE IS MY QUESTION:
Were we not told that iWork documents would all automatically update on all devices?
What then is this icloud.com/iwork for?
ARE WE WAITING FOR AN UPDATE OF PAGES WITH AN "iCloud" BUTTON THAT REPLACES THE EXISTING "Share" button?
For the time being, here is what I found on the web (AND NOT ON THE APPLE WEBSITE, AT LEAST NOT SO CLEARLY STATED)
"To access your iOS documents from your computer, you will need to use a web browser and go to icloud.com/iwork.
    Once you sign in with your iCloud login information, you'll be able to see all of your iOS documents;
click a document to download it onto your computer. (You can choose to download documents in either iWork '09, Microsoft Office, or PDF format.)
To share a document from your computer to your iOS devices, you'll need to drag and drop the document (which can be in either iWork '09 or Microsoft Office format) from your computer into one of the iWork apps on the web browser. The document will then automatically appear on all your iOS devices."
    Regards

What then is this icloud.com/iwork for?
It is your personal download portal so that you can access your ios-iwork-files from any internet cafe in the world. because you can download them as pages/numbers/key/ppt/xls/doc/pdf you can then use it in any available office application, be it Microsoft Office on Windows, OpenOffice on Linux or iWork for OSX ..

Apparently, it's a Chrome issue. Talk to them.

  • Fotos for Mac, sync to iCloud incomplete

I do have 8,500 photos in my Fotos (Mac App) library. 5,000 of them were already synced to my iCloud account. Now it stops syncing. if i look at the options, it says "uploading 20" but nothing happens. My iCloud drive has enough free space, so it should work. Restart didn't help.
Has anyone a similar problem an can help?
    Thank you.

Are the 20 photos perhaps referenced? Then they cannot upload to iCloud.
You can check with a smart album, if you have any photos in the library, that cannot upload to iCloud.
