HT203128 How do i delete songs/podcasts off my ipod in itunes 12.1

Since the upgrade, I cannot see how I can delete songs or podcasts off my ipod.  I will run out of memory very quickly.  If I put in delete songs into Help it says select and press backspace.  This does not work.

Thank you very much for your help.  Actually, I just found another solution.  I checked the box at the bottom of the Summary page which says Manually manage music and videos.  I then clicked Apply and after that, I was able to delete content.
Why are neither of these solutions available when you query Help?
Perhaps one of the highly paid help in Apple could tell me (and all the others who have commented) what benefits we are getting from the upgrade to 12.1.  It just seems to have made it less user friendly and more difficult to use.

How can I delete songs directly off of my Ipad2?

You can swipe across a song in the songs tab of the music app and a red delete button will pop up. You can hold down on an album icon and the X to delete will appear on the icon.

  • How do I delete songs & podcast from iPhone using iTunes on new MacBook Pro

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro after years of using PC.
First thing I have to say is that I love it. I've had a couple of problems here-and-there but these have been teething issues which these discussion boards have mostly helped me resolve... I have been unable to resolve this one issue though which I was hoping that someone could help me with....
I have plugged my iPhone into my new Mac and let it appear in iTunes but when I attempt to delete old songs or podcasts from the iPhone it does not let me delete them... I've tried holding control and clicking on the items- hoping that delete would be an option, but it isn't. Also I've notice that delete is not one of my options in the edit tab at the top of iTunes.
I understand that I can delete individual podcasts and albums/songs through the iPhone itself by swiping right and selecting delete but when I do this for All individual episodes of a podcast then the main header for the "show" still remains...
Would love if someone could help me with this- need to be able to manage the songs and podcast on my iPhone.
    Thankyou for your time.

"Ok- but what if I want to manually manage the songs and podcasts on my iPhone and somehow loose access to the computer which I used to put said songs and podcasts on the iPhone in the first place?"
The you would ned to use the backup copy of tht computer to put everything on the new computer.
"  Is there a way in which I can manage/delete the content on the iPhone using my new computer without retoring it to factory settings and starting all over again?"
You do not have to restore it, but you cannot access the music at all from this other computer until you sync it, which will erase the content.
"And just to clarify: I don't have any problems with playing the content that remains on my iPhone, it's just the managing and deleting of this content."
    I understand completely.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • How do I delete songs permanently off of my iPhone 4s

I have been at this for hours. I have tried every solution I could find on and off of this Apple site. I have gone into the settings and made sure everything was turned off in the iTunes & App Store. I have turned off the iCloud and turned it back on and off again. I have deleted the songs in iTunes and synced a million times. I have clicked to manage music and videos manually. I have unchecked and right mouse clicked and hit delete. I have swiped on the phone and deleted and every single song is STILL on my phone with a cloud symbol next to it. When I go to play the song, just to see what happens? A totally different song plays. So I deleted EVERY song and they are still on there. The actual songs are all grey on my iTunes under my phone, but still show up.
I am in disbelief that Apple has not done anything about whatever "glitch" is making this happen. I obviously have paid too much for this piece of crap phone and have relied entirely too much on Apple to actually assist with this. To have to spend hours of my day trying to figure out stuff on my phone and not be able to contact Apple because my year is up definitely will make me go back to a Droid when my contract is up.
    This isn't worth it.

Try swiping to the left instead. Works for me. In the music app I can delete songs by swiping to the left, but I cannot delete an album in the same manner

  • How do you delete songs on your iPhone without using iTunes on your computer? Swiping to the left or right won't work on mine.

I've tried deleting my songs but it didn't work. It worked last time. Sliding it wont work anymore. I've spent hours trying to figure out how to delete songs.

Swiping left to right or right to left should work if you're in the right place.
For example, try it in Music > Songs (button in lower right).

  • How do I delete songs completely off of my phone?

I delete the songs on my phone but there is a cloud thingy by them, and my phone still plays them. How do I get rid of the songs completely?

You can go to settings>music and disable show all music. See if this removes the songs from your music library

  • How can I delete songs/recordings off ITunes?

For some reason, when I open audio recordings, it automatically opens in ITunes.  As a result, I have a huge ls of audio interviews in my Itunes play list which I'd like to get rid of.  The problem is, when I try to delete it, it is greyed out in the options.  Anyway to deletes items from your play list?

If iTunes is connected to files outside the designated iTunes Media folder then it won't offer to delete them when the tracks are removed from the library. See KillSelectedFiles for a tool that can do this.
Alternatively you could consolidate your library so that all tracks are inside the media folder, but the downside with that is that you then have to hunt down the originals to delete. Or, instead of using iTunes own consolidate command, you could use my script ConsolidateByMoving.

I bought my iPod today, and my friend just put all his music on it, but there are alot of stuff i don't want on there, and I can't seem to get rid of them...same with photos, i had stuff in My Pictures but i didn't want them to go onto my iPod, do i have to deletre the songs/photos from my computer to delete them from the iPod? because my friend said just to uncheck the little checkbox next to the song names, and i tried that and it didn't work... Please help.
      Windows XP

The easiest way would be to erase the contents of the iPod disk and reset it back to the factory defaults. Follow this link for instructions on how to do so http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • How do i delete a podcast stopped mid-downloading in iTunes, iPad2?

I am downloading several podcasts and one is hung up/stopped mid-way.  I want to delete it.   Pausing and resuming does not function.  Thanks

    You and me both!
I started out with an Apple+ way back when.  We came back from Christmas vacation to a faculty meeting where an AEA (Area Education Agency) employee was to introduce us to this new BIG DEAL - computers!
Afterward, the math/science people the superintendent expected to get so excited took a walk while his ENGLISH department learned to type 10 HELLO, etc. until you got a document window open and could enter text, AND CORRECT IT, causing it to print out WITHOUT mistakes.  My typing skills were non-existent, so I went to the elementary teachers and borrowed a program they used to introduce students in second grade to the keyboard.  (I was a jr./sr. high school teacher, and nobody could figure out why I'd never been taught to type.
    Sigh.
I SURE HOPE THEY GET OVER THIS MESS IN A HURRY!  I want to go back to i-Tunes 10+ whatever I was at, but Lion won't let me dump i-Tunes, as it is part of the OS.  BUMMER!
Most of all I hate the sneaky way they introduced this, just like it was a regular upgrade, not something that would ruin our work methods of many year's standing and giving us NOTHING to replace it with short of scrolling down through 1700+ podcasts.  UCK!

  • How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?

How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?  My son's ipod automatically synced all the songs in my library to his ipod which he now wants to get rid of.  Is there a way to delete them all without me having to erase my library?

Do not select the songs to sync, then sync.

How do I delete songs off of my old I phone?

You do not want the songs anywhere?
    iTunes prefs > Store.
Uncheck Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
    On the iPhone.
    Settings > Music.
    Turn off Show all music.
Delete the songs in iTunes then sync the iPhone.

  • On Ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the iPhone

on ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the phone

    i think i stumbled onto a solution.
the upgrade to os7 brought a bunch of music into my phone i didn't care to hear anymore.
(free downloads from the itunes twitter feed..some of them are good, most of them i normally delete immediately)
i had 3 pesky songs that would not allow me to delete.
every other song in my library gave me the option to delete, just not the ones i never wanted to hear again.
..super frustrating when the song keeps starting over everytime you touch it while scrambling for a delete option.
they were purchases which i'd hidden.
i plugged to computer and tried to use iTunes to delete but they did not appear.
all "show all" options for music and video were off.
    itunes match was off.
    all automatic downloads were off.
    "show all music" was off.
i logged out of my apple ID for several minutes.
i think this may have given time for my account to resynchronize the items i didn't want to see anymore.
i've logged back in and they're still gone.
i don't care if i hear a new eric clapton song again for the rest of the year thank you.
