  • I am having trouble downloading PDF files to my new iPad air. Works fine on my other iPads with iOS7 and iOS 5.

    My other iPads easily download PDF files but my new iPad air is stumbling and the browser shuts down.

    Hi John
    iTunes Support wasn't of any use to me.
    I have also been having another problem - with BBC iPlayer and other video streaming not working due to insufficient bandwidth, despite my overall download speed being consistently around 50Gb.  This is also affecting AppleTV downloads
    I am using Virgin Media as my ISP, and was wondering whether you do as well.  This might be the common thread.

  • Can't open or download pdf files

    Much of the time I am unable to open pdf files on websites, or download them. Sometimes it works, but mostly not. When downloading doesn't work, I get a window with the front page of the document I want displayed, but I can't scroll to other pages, and it doesn't download. (I have it preferences set to download to my Desktop, and normally download other types of files.)
    When I click to display pdf files, I get a new Safari window with a Quicktime logo in the middle.
    I have re-downloaded the lastest version of Adobe Acrobat reader, incase that helped.
    I have been living with this, thinking it's one of the prices of using Mac, but surely there's a solution?

    Can someone help me with a similar problem? Safari
    used to work fine, but now, when I click on a link in
    a webpage that should give me a pdf file, I just get
    a blank page with the url for the link showing above
    in the address space. There is no download happening
    at all. I find I can download them using Explorer,
    but I don't want to use Explorer. I have OS 10.4.8
    and Adobe Reader 7.0.5. Thanks for any help.
    After reinstalling Safari, etc., I tried installing the Schubert plug-in mentioned in an e-mail above. It didn't work until I went into Adobe preferences and turned off the instruction telling it to display downloaded pdf files. Suddenly, voila! I'm downloading files fast into the browser, and can save them fast to my desktop. So, thanks, whoever it was that suggested that little plug-in.

  • How do I get commands to display on a "full screen" display of a downloaded PDF file?

    In recent months, more and more downloaded PDF files are displayed on my Mac Pro without the command line at the top of the page.  This makes using & managing the documents difficult, and sometimes impossible.  I can gain access to a limited number of commands by clicking on the doc, but noto nearly the range of commands available when the command line is visible.  I still have many older PDF files that display in the usual manner.  Is this a change associated with Lion or the latest Adobe update?  Or, si there a command I do not know about that will restore the command line?

    Adobe Reader for iOS doesn't have command lines.

  • Using IFRAME in JSF to display a PDF file

    2 all,
    How do i display a PDF file inside a JSF page in a IFRAME tag?
    I store the PDF file location (like d:\images\pdf1.pdf) in my database. I cant give this location directly into the src attribute cos then the file will be rendered to only users who have access to that folder (the application is a internet application). IFRAME would be ideal as the display is very very neat (esp for pdf files).
    To get this working i tried the examples given in balusc blogs (on image servlet) but the problem is that my servlet is not getting called. Find below the web.xml and imageDisplay.jsp pages that i tried

    okay let me post the modified code for my image servlet here
    public class ImageServlet extends HttpServlet {
         private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) {
            // Define base path somehow. You can define it as init-param of the servlet.
    //        String imageFilePath = "/images";
            // In a Windows environment with the Applicationserver running on the
            // c: volume, the above path is exactly the same as "c:\images".
            // In UNIX, it is just straightforward "/images".
            // If you have stored images in the WebContent of a WAR, for example in the
            // "/WEB-INF/images" folder, then you can retrieve the absolute path by:
            // String imageFilePath = getServletContext().getRealPath("/WEB-INF/images");
            // Get file name from request.
            String imageFileName = request.getParameter("file");
            System.out.println("Inside the image servlet ---->>>> " + imageFileName);
            // Check if file name is supplied to the request.

  • How do I call browser Save As dialog box before downloading pdf files?

    How do I call browser Save As dialog box before downloading pdf files?
    Here's my favorite scenario:
    1. User clicks button
    2. Save As dialog displays
    3. User chooses location
    4. A set of PDF files download to that location OR a single zip file downloads
    Background:
    I want to ensure the user sees that files are being downloaded. I'm delivering content to users who may not be Web savvy.
    Concern:
    1. User has no clue how to find downloaded files or that files have even downloaded.
    2. I'd like to deliver the set as zip files. Not sure if self-opening zip files still exist.
    FYI:
    I'm using jQuery UI buttons. Not sure if that factors into response.

    Just for clarity, I'm not forcing a download. The user will click a button.
    Click a button or click a link, either way you're technically executing a script to force a download.
    I'm assuming that's the php file resident on the server.
    Yes but that's only part of it.  Once the contact form executes, another script is called up which opens the browser's download dialogue.
    Is there a php script for simply calling the Open/Save dialog box?
    Yes.
    <?php
    /* This short script forces a file download.
       For simplicity, it's intended to be used for a single file.
       You can use multiple copies of this file (with unique names)
       with different variable values to use it with multiple files.
       Use of this script has a side-effect of hiding the location of the
       file on your server.
    // full server path to file to be downloaded (including filename)
    $Path2File = "path/to-file-on-server.zip";
    // the filename
    $theFileName = "name-of-file.zip";
    //the work gets done here
    header ("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
    header ("Content-Type: application/octet-stream");
    header ("Content-Length: " . filesize($Path2File));
    header ("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$theFileName");
    readfile($Path2File);
    ?>
    Name this file zip2download.php.

  • Problem downloading pdf file in Safari

    My website has a link which downloads a pdf file, which opens in a new browser window. In OS X, this works properly using the latest Safari update (4.0.5), as well as in Firefox and several other browsers (the file opens in Preview). I also run Windows XP using Boot Camp. I updated Safari to 4.0.5 in Windows, and also installed the latest version of Adobe Reader. But when I link to the pdf file in Windows using Safari, the program freezes. Both Firefox and Internet Explorer download the pdf file properly in Windows (the file opens in Adobe Reader).
    I'm pretty sure that earlier Windows Safari versions correctly downloaded pdf files. Could this be a problem with Safari 4.0.5? Is there plugin in the new Safari that I'm missing, or something that needs to be set in either Safari or Adobe Reader?

    I went through the recommended uninstall/reinstall procedure, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. When I first ran the new Safari install and clicked on the link to download the pdf, it opened a new window with a message that it couldn't find the server on which the pdf file is located (but of course it's on the same server as the parent page). After churning (hourglass cursor) for a couple of minutes, the new page (now running Adobe Reader, I think) displayed a small cube with question marks (missing file). On subsequent tries, Windows shut down Safari as "not responding".
    I suspect that the problem is with Adobe Reader 9.3.1 and its interaction with Safari. (The other browsers continue to download the pdf properly.) I checked the Adobe site but didn't see an obvious way to install an earlier version of Reader, but willl investigate this further.
    Many thanks for your help. (I've been forced to learn more about Windows than I really wanted to know.)

  • Adobe Reader 9.0 has delay when downloading PDF file through proxy server

    There is an issue with the Adobe Reader (and Acrobat) 9.0 PDF Link Helper ActiveX control for Internet Explorer (6 or 7) on Windows computers with respect to proxy servers. Due to this issue, there is a 2 minute delay for any Internet Explorer web browser on the Deere network before any PDF file will open from the Internet within the IE web browser if In-Place activation (Display PDF in Browser) is enabled in Adobe Reader 9. This problem does not affect Adobe Reader 8.
    What we are seeing is that when someone on the Deere network clicks on a links to a PDF file in the Internet, the PDF file downloads immediately. But then, after the PDF file is downloaded, the Adobe Reader 9 PDF Link Helper ActiveX control tries to talk directly to the Internet web site. The Adobe Reader 9 PDF Link Helper ActiveX control does not know how to negotiate our proxy server. So after a minute or two, the Adobe Reader 9 PDF Link Helper ActiveX control times out (gives up) and allows the IE browser to display the downloaded PDF file in the IE browser.
    We work around this issue by disabling In Place Activation for PDF files in IE (uncheck Display PDF in Browser). But we would like a fix for the PDF Link Helper ActiveX control.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\Originals]
    "bBrowserIntegration"=dword:00000000
    Here's what our proxy people see when they do a trace of a PDF file download through their proxy server with IE 7 and Adobe Reader 9 with Display PDF in Browser checked.
    The browser tells the proxy to download the pdf, it does and sends it to the browser. Before the browser opens it something in Acrobat ( or I.E. ? ) tries to make a connection back to the content server that hosted the pdf. Unfortunately this agent does not ask the proxy to make the request for it, but rather asks local DNS to resolve the Internet server name. This request dies because our internal private network does not know anything about the Internet. Only the DNS used by the proxy can resolve Interent names. After two unsuccessful DNS queries into the private network, the agent tries to resolve the same Internet name with NBNS ( netbios name service) queries again into the private network, with the same results. These requests persists for more than two minutes ( over 200 unresolved queries ). Then for whatever reason the agent gives up and the already downloaded pdf file loads into the browser.
    I have a TCP capture file if you want it.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem with some specific PDF files. For more than 90% it hangs when opening the file, but sometimes it works (with the same file).
    The workflows where it sometimes worked:
    a) Loading the PDF, the reader is started the first time and displays license dialog.
    b) The reader was already runing and file is loaded with Drag&Drop or File/Open in the Reader
    But most times it does not load.
    I could not find out which file is missing or trying to be opened. So I tried with the CP949.TXT.
    I found no CP949.TXT in Reader 8 installation, so I took it from the link, pasted into notepad and stored in the respective directory
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Resource\TypeSupport\Unicode\Mappings\win\
    Now it seems to work fine, opening PDFs with double click from exporer.
    But why did Adobe Reader 8 not have the TypeSupport directory at all?
    Even when having found a fix (hack?), I think I did not understand the cause of this problem.

  • Download PDF File from Archiv to SAP Application Server

    Hi,
    I need to download the PDF file from an NAST-Dataset (how is stored from the message via SAP ArchivLink) to the SAP Application Server.
    1) At first i read the Archiv-Link data via function module WFMC_GET_ARCHIVE_OBJECT_TYPE
    2) Then i get the Connection-Infos via function module ARCHIV_GET_CONNECTIONS_INT
    3) Now i read the file from archiv as table via function module ARCHIVOBJECT_GET_BYTES
    4) Save to the SAP Appl.Server via:
       - OPEN DATASET ld_dpfad FOR OUTPUT IN BINARY MODE
       - LOOP and TRANSFER lf_archivobject TO ld_dpfad.
       - CLOSE DATASET ld_dpfad.
    In the dialog of NAST-Dataset (Messages) i can open the PDF-File without any errors (display originals). But after the filetransfer to the SAP Appl.Server i get the following errors during the file opening dialog from Adobe Acrobat Reader:
    - the embedded font u201CArialu201D cant to be extract
    - not enough data for the picture
    The reader can display the PDF-File but only without the picture (Logo) and with alternative font.
    The same transfer from archiv and sending as an attachement to the BOR-Object via function module SO_DOCUMENT_INSERT_API1 works very fine and without any errors.
    Can any one please help me to solve this Issue?
    Thanks in Advance,

    Hello Keith,
    Many thanks for your answer.
    In the past i didnu2019t need the BINARCHIVOBJECT-Parameter and so i overlook this option.
    Now, the File looks a little bit different, but only in the STREAM-section.
    During the Fileopen-Dialog i get only one message now - "not enough data for image" and the image will not displayed. The rest seems to be correct.
    The relevant coding is now:

  • Display a PDF file from local drive

    Hi,
    I would like to display a pdf file that is actually stored on the portal server hard drive.
    What I have tried to do is link an iFrame element to the url of the file: "D:
    MyFolder
    myFile.pdf"
    But it doesn't work. I have the following error when trying to do that:
    com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.InvalidUrlRuntimeException: Invalid URL=D:/MyFolder/myFile.pdf
    Does this means that iFrame can only display http URLs ? What are the other ways to easily display pdf files ?? I'am stuck with that problem and can't find any other solution.
    I also tried with "servletResponse.getOutputStream().write(fileByteContent);" but the problem is that I am not in a PAR application, and I don't have the servletResponse element and don't know how to get it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
       You can not access the .pdf file using the nornal path (c:
    ), use the following code to open the pdf in ur iframe, this will work i used it in my application.
    String sFileName =
    strCampCodeVal"_"nReqIdVal+".pdf";
    String sFile =
    "C:

  • When I download pdf files in Safari I get a black screen.  However, if I open a pdf in Mail it is viewable in Preview.  How do I fix this?

    When I download pdf files in Safari I get a black screen.  However, if I open a pdf in Mail it is viewable in Preview.  What is wrong?

    Back up all data.
    Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Download pdf-files from websites is disabled!???

    Some websites provide additional information by making the user download a PDF-file. For some reason (can't really say since when), whenever I need to download a PDF, either there's a blank location-address or Firefox just stops whenever the PDF-link has been found, without crashing though.
    I'd be happy to know how to resolve this problem.

    Far as I know the problem isn't on Apple's end. I'm download PDF files with no problem. But I've experienced what you are in the past and I think you were on the right track when you suspected Adobe. In the main Library folder (not the one in your personal directory) there's a folder called Internet Plugins. Look inside for a file called AdobePDFViewer and delete it. If I remember properly, you force Adobe Reader to install a new one by just starting Reader and it will ask if you want to install the PDF reader. Or, you might want to look at this plugin which, in my opinion, beats Adobe's plugin hands down.

  • Store and Display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms

    Hi all,
    How can i store and display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms 10g?.

    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    [OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
      and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
      [JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
         cd [JacobStage]
         copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
         copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
      The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
      Open a DOS command prompt.
      Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
         set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
      Sign the files, and check the output for success:
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
      you may skip this step. Otherwise,
      Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
      connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
      for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
      Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
      out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
      errors.
      Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
         CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
         DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
         TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
         GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
         CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
         @[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
         -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
         CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
      Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
         grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
      to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Start the OC4J instance
    7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
      Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
      It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
      Note 303682.1
      If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
      full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    8) Create a new FMB.
      Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
      There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
      Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
      Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
             NULL;
      to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
      Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
             show_webutil_information (TRUE);
      in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
      Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
      the "Application Server URL" is empty.
      Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
          http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    10) Run your form.sarah

  • The Downloaded PDF file does not contain the Signature through BSP pages

    HI,
    We have an requirement for Distributing the FORM 16 to all Employee's through our Website, where the user will login and download his own FORM 16 ( TDS Certificate)
    This FORM 16 ( TDS Certificate ) is generated in SAP ( ECC 6.0 ) in Payroll Module.
    To satisfy the above requirement we have done the following steps.
    1) First we have modified the standards SAP Sapscript(Layout) to incorporate the Signature of Authorised Payroll Person.
    We have done this by uploading the BMP file ( though t-code SE78 ) and then calling this file in the Standards layout which prints the FORM 16 document.
    2) WE also Modifed the Dirver program to Download the above document in a .PDF  file.
    The Program creates the seperate file for each employee and assigns the employee number as a file name to each downloaded file. These all files are downloaded on a Users Machine.
    We opened the Downloaded .PDF files, and checked for the Signatures. The Signature were comming perfect as it ws uploaded.
    3) We uploaded these all FORM 16 PDF file off all emlpoyee's to a different SERVER ( BW 7.0 ). With the help of BASIS person, using the FTP utility.
    4) We wrote a BSP program to download this ulploaded PDF Files.
    BUT we are facing a PROBLEM in the DOWNLOADED PDF file.
    The Downloaded file does not contain the Signature which is there is the Original file we uploded this server.
    All other data in the dowloaded PDF file is Perfect other than the Signature.
    When we open the downlaoded PDF file it give's following  message on the Signautre page.
    " Xobject not found named 00013"
    The number of the Object comes different to different files.
    We are using Function module 'SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING' to Convert string to Xstring
    We are using the the " CALL METHOD CL_BSP_UTILITY=>DOWNLOAD" for downloading the PDF file.
    Please suggest some solution if you can
    Thanks in advnace.

  • Download PDF files instead of viewing them within Safari?

    I would like to automatically download PDF files instead of having to view them within Safari.
    I have disabled Acrobat as the default reader and now Safari has switched to using Preview. However, I cannot find a way to also disable Preview to allow the PDF file to be downloaded instead of displayed within a Safari window.
    Anyone have any ideas on how to do this seemingly simple task?

    It's amazing to me that simply asking Safari to default to auto download a PDF is so arcane. It's incredible that Apple doesn't have a Safari preference for this very simple action!
    The Terminal and Onyx methods recommended above are just ways of accessing a setting for Safari that Apple hasn't added to Safari Preferences. As I understand it, settings like this are built into Safari - they just aren't readily user-accessible. This is why programs like Onyx and Safari Enhancer exist, to open up "hidden" features and settings.
    I imagine Apple's developers debate these things, trying to decide what would be simpler to leave out to avoid complexity and what confusion (but allow third-party or Terminal methods to access) and which would be better added to the regular Preferences settings.
    Since this is a feature you'd like to see in Safari Preferences, I'd recommend submitting this as feedback to Apple.
    In the meantime, though, I'd consider it a good thing that there are built-in ways to get the setting that you prefer. Personally, I don't find the default settings such a hindrance. They're intended to help the "average" user (the new Mac user, the non-technical user, etc.) who wants a PDF file to just open, without having to understand how to work with it. For the more savvy user, there are multiple methods of downloading and/or opening PDFs. I'm rather like you - I prefer to download PDFs (in which case I use the Control-click method if I notice the link is to a PDF) or sometimes I allow the PDF to open in Safari, then Control-click on the open PDF and choose the option to open in Acrobat Reader. I find the latter method even smoother than downloading and then opening, in fact. If I decide it's a file I want to keep, I save it to my hard drive; otherwise I just close it.
