HT203171 Erratic Magic Trackpad-MacBook Pro 13
Anybody else experiencing erratic movements on their trackpad?? Seems to have a mind if its own, opening launchpad and delayed response to touch ??

Trackpad MacBook Pro Out of Control
For the second time in a year, my trackpad on my MacBook Pro has gone bonkers. It moves by itself, opens applications, refuses to respond to touch, makes the whole computer unusable. The last time it happened (October, 2013) they replaced the trackpad. This time, I was advised, by Apple Support on the phone, to try two different restarts, which managed to crash the entire computer. Took it in for service, where they erased the drive. Fortunately, I had back-up and was able to restore the computer to its still-with-problems trackpad. Though I kept hearing, "Wow, this never happens," I now find that there are literally dozens and dozens of people reporting the problem all over the place. Anybody have a clue how to get this fixed, once and for all? Right now, I have to head back to the Apple Store--again--to try to get the original problem. Only one hint for people with similar problem: a Mouse DOES work, as long as you don't it the trackpad, even accidentally.
Does your MacBook Pro have a removable battery? This behavior is often seen if the battery has swollen and is pressing up against the cable for the trackpad.
Even if your MBP doesn't have a removable battery, it would be worth bringing it in and asking them to remove the battery and test the trackpad without the battery present to see if it's still incredibly erratic.

Magic Trackpad + Mac Pro = Lame
Unfortunately I plunked down my 70 bucks for a Magic trackpad to go with my Mac Pro (2009, Nehalem) and it's pretty much unsuable. It skips, stutters, delays and is just all around an inaccurate pointing device. If I turn the trackpad on and off it helps, but not for long. I pretty much blame it on Bluetooth and all its lameness though. Have had similar problems with the Magic Mouse with my MBP. Just don't think Bluetooth is up to the task for a device that requires precision and preciseness. My Logitech MX mouse with its own USB dongle is flawless though.
Had high hopes, what a bummer.Whoever said the trackpad was a precision device?
As for the bluetooth, you're right. It's not up to the task. But it's more the fault of the mac pro than the mouse or trackpad (although the MM BT is worse than the trackpad). See this lengthy discussion. -
Trackpad macbook pro less responsive
the track pad of my macbook pro is less responsive. the right hand side of the pad is less responsive as compared to wha
Some times a very thorough cleaning of the trackpad will restore functionality.
Occasionally a failing battery (under the trackpad) will start to expand and interfere with trackpad operation. Inspect the battery.

Trackpad macbook pro win xp, trackpad macbook pro win xp
has anyone ever got the trackpad ( magicpad) to work as right click, two fingers. under win xp pro???? If so any help would be appreicated
MDMason, thanks for the response. I don't use Parallels but I will have to try this XP sleep thing when running on batteries.
Last night, I rebooted back into XP and it reported that it had "recovered" from a serious error. I could surf the net with no problems so it appeared XP was working fine (good thing I imaged the Windows partition with Disk Utilities). I closed the MBP lid and let it go to sleep, waited a minute and opened it back up and XP was waiting for me. Then, I closed the lid again and went out to a valentine's dinner with my wife and let it sit for a few hours.
When we got back, I opened the MBP and again, XP was there. I'm not sure what happened but I can't seem to duplicate it.
I'll play some more over the next few days and see what happens.
Thank you,

Problem trackpad macbook pro 13'
Pointer is moved automaticaly =/ and clicking automaticaly.
Only update trackpad to MacbookPro Retina
Help me.
Thank's.Hi Jeff,
I've got a 15" from mid 2009, which I think is the same release year as yours?
Anyhow - about 10 months in, my trackpad started to fail. Tap to click would stop working, and certain areas of the trackpad would stop clicking period.
I took it into the genius bar, and, basically my trackpad failed. They replaced it in a few hours. It was fortunately under warranty.
This isn't your exact situation - just a story to tell you that trackpads break down..
Hope this helps! -
Magic Mouse + MacBook Pro problems
My Magic connects to the MBP but does nothing then disconnects.
I recently had my Bluetooth module replace in my MBP but the mouse has worked fine since until recently. I've replaced the batteries with 1300mAh Nickel rechargeable.
Any ideas?Maybe the BlueTooth module that was replaced is bad again ... can happen ... try another bluetooth devices and see if it can discover it. Try your IPhone if you have one ...
Good luck

I have the problem with trackpad.
I have to push hard to use the right buttonTest it when booted from your install DVD. If is still does it, it's a mechanical issue with the trackpad and will need to be serviced.

Hello,
I am finally taking the leap and will be buying a Mac. I have no idea what I'm doing nor do I know anything about computers besides running programs I use on a normal basis. I'm a student learning to become an Interior Designer who used Autocad (mostly), Photoshop, and Illistator. I orignially wanted a 13" but I found the screen to maybe be a little smaller than I would prefer. I was hoping the Apple Community could HELP ME!
As I said, I use Autocad a lot, along with Photoshop and Illustrator on ocasian, now these programs will only installed into my computer. I like to save all of my files(work) to External Hard drives. I have no idea how these computers would handle the programs and wanted some guidance into this invesetment. When I visited the apple store I felt as the staff was trying to upsell me into specs I dont even need. Does anyone out there use these applications and if so what computer and specs you recomend? OR even if your know something about computer this would greatly help me.
Thank you
My school sent me this as "Suggested" requriments from each program I use which made me so much more confused.

Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, membership validation, and access to online services.‡Yes, either the 27" iMac or 15" MacBook Pro will be fast enough to run AutoCAD, Photoshop, and Illustrator well. You do not need to be confused by the requirements because basically all new Macs meet most of the requirements already. The only thing you need to pay attention to is that whichever one you get, looking at the system requirements for the programs, you will want to order either computer with at least 8GB of RAM and a 256GB internal storage. If your budget allows, you can increase those amounts, but you don't have to.
AutoCAD has one additional requirement, a mouse. I think this is because CAD programs make heavy use of the right mouse button and even the middle/scrollwheel buttons. This will be easy to get because you can connect just about any USB mouse to a Mac, even a $5 PC mouse will work.
The Illustrator requirements mention a DVD drive. Remember that the iMac and MacBook Pro do not have an optical drive. But I am confused by the requirement because Adobe software can generally be installed from a download so that an optical disc drive is not needed. You may need to get further clarification from your school about this. If for some reason the school does not provide software by download and only provides the programs on optical disc, you can just buy a USB optical drive and plug it in. -

Hi, I've been having a few issues with the trackpad, mostly with clicks lately. Today the cursor went rogue and started opening all sorts of programs and files, moving to different screens and opening things there, generally going crazy and not responding when I tried to use it. I rebooted several times before it decided to stop on its own -- I'm not sure the reboot had anything to do with it. I took a video of it with my ipod, but it's too big to upload here. Any suggestions before I open cocktail and and run repairs? Thanks for any help you can offer.
My Macbook Pro started to experience the very same erratic behaviour. At first I noticed that it would happen if the MBP was on a flat tabletop surface. If I placed the MBP on my lap, the magic pad seemed to operate properly. It was very consistent. Since this is a capacitative surface, I tried an experiment. I placed the MBP on a tabletop surface where it's exhibited the malfunction. Then I used my other hand on the flat surface areas near the magic pad while using my right hand to manipulate the cursor. It appears that touching the casing with my other hand seemed to calm down the erratic behaviour. When I used only one hand, the erratic behaviour returned.
I'd searched several forums to no avail. No one seemed to have a solution or an explanation so I just lived with it.
However, by coincidence, I was experiencing what I believed was an unrelated issue. One of my USB ports was no longer responding to devices plugged into that port. While searching for a solution for the USB port, I stumbled across a post where the user suggested resetting the SMC. I'd never heard of that before this post. In his post, he mentioned that erratic Magic Pad behaviour could also be caused by the SMC.
He instructed to
1. Attach the MagSafe power cord
2. Power off the MacBook Pro
3. Press the L-Shift/Control/Option and Power button at the same time and hold.
4. Release them all at the same time
5. Then power on the MacBook Pro
Not only did my USB regain functionality, but it appears to have resolved my erratic Magic Pad behaviour. It now operates as it had done when new.
For reference, I'm using a MacBook Pro 13" with the Intel I3 processor and Lion.
I hope that helps somebody else as it did for me. -
HT203171 macbook pro trackpad troubles - any other tips?
recently my trackpad started acting up: two-finger scrolling and two- and three-finger tapping are not being detected properly. i recorded some of this in a video:
http://youtu.be/L-fWYcrmTQg
though it cannot be seen in this demo, general use of the cursor is also a little haphazard--it occasionally jumps around the screen all willy nilly, see.
i've been digging around these forums and beyond getting the trackpad replaced, i'm not having any luck finding a solution. are there any other tips?

Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro
I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.
Thank you in advance for your help.I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.
I am filing a comment about this on Apple's feedback forum at www.apple.com/feedback at the advice of a Genius at the Apple Store at Cambridgeside in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.
