I cleaned the Trackpad, I cleaned my hands, I'm not wearing any jewelry and my charger is an original apple product. What else can explain a jumpy and erratic Trackpad?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you have no service on the iPhone. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. There is one step you did not mention trying that i think is worth trying.
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.

HT201263 None of the above have worked. Ipad completely bricked. This began when merely updating IOS software as instructed. Now Apple want to charge me for using their crappy software as directed. Surely this is not only immoral but potentially illegal.

That procedure eventually leads you to the need to restore it.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").

If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. Be patient since it sometimes takes several of these attempts before you are successful.

HT1533 None of the above combinations works *at* *all*. What now?

I have just acquired an elderly (no idea just *how* old) mac mini (says underneath 1.66/2x256/60/comb q/ap/bt which I presume means it has a 1.66 GHz cpu, 512 MB ram, a 60 GB hard disk, some other stuff, and bluetooth) with who knows what version of OSX on it. Also no-one knows the user or admin passwords.
I have tried booting using all the key combinations listed in the kb article (HT1533) and *none* of them produce any results other than what I get without pressing anything; i.e. the machine boots off the internal HDD and prompts for password. Needless to say having a Snow Leopard install disk in the DVD drive also has no effect.
It's a genuine Apple keyboard, the wide 104-key style. I know it is working because if I type anything at the password prompt, dots appear and when I press the [Enter] key I get the "head-shake" response that says "Uh-uh, Buddy, you got that wrong". The computer also successfully paired with the genuine Apple mouse (old style with the little track ball where a Microsoft mouse would have a scroll wheel. I think this is the same model mouse this computer would have shipped with). The box only has 4 USB ports, I've tried the keyboard in all of them. There's nothing else connected, except power and DVI screen.
How to get it booted off the SL disk and install from scratch? Ideas??

OK, to answer all my own questions then ;-)
- to try logging on as administrator, just enter the wrong password for the default user anumber of times (keep hitting enter on a blank pw I guess) until you are prompted for the "master" unlock password or words to that effect. Hmm well anyway.
That also didn't work BTW, no default passwords were set on this machine.
- the problem was the keyboard, but not a faulty one: a later model one. The computer was running 10.4 and has / had older firmware which didn't recognise the newer slim aluminium keyboard...I took it in to my local guru bar and they found one of them old chunky curved models which worked first time. Used that to reset the user password, and once i got it home I was able to use the System Preferences -> Startup Disk app to boot it from the Snow Leopard install DVD. Yayyyyyy....

Consider reading the user documentation that came with the computer which is a good start on answering some basic questions.
If you have questions the printed documentation doesn't answer, then use the Help menu of the Finder as well as any applications you are using. You can also do keyword searches in the Apple Discussions to find possible answers. Please do that before posting a question because most basic questions have been asked and answered numerous times. There's also an extensive User Tips section of the Apple Discussions where you may find additional helpful information.

Ssrs 2008 r2, select more or more or none of the above values

In an an existing SSRS 2008 r2 report, I want to have a parameter called @hair where the user
can see if the customer purchased one of the following items:
1. hair spray,
2. hair shampoo,
3. Hair color,
4. hair conditioner, or
5. No hair product purchased.
The table is called inventory and the values for the field called hairproduct are
1. hair spray = 'HR',
2. hair shampoo = 'HS',
3. hair color = 'HC',
4. Hair conditionier = 'HD',
5. If hair product is not purchased hairproduct value is null. This is due to
    the inventory table contains columns like hairproduct, eyeproduct, faceproduct. If a
    particular product is purchased, the column will contain a value. If a customer purchases
    all 4 hair products and 3 eyeproducts, and 9 faceproducts, the inventory table will contain
    16 columns for a particualr customer.
In the parameter window, I can use the following to have the correct values be displayed in the
selection window:
SELECT DISTINCT IsNull(inventory.hairproduct,'') as hairid,
CASE IsNull(inventory.hairproduct,'')
WHEN 'HR' then 'hair spray'

However in the main query for the ssrs 2008 r2 report, I am not certain how I would change the following statement to select 'No hair product purchased'.
The current select statement looks like the following:

from inventory where customer_id = @customerid
hairproduct in (@hairproduct).
Basically I need to change the main query, dataset that matches the parameter @hairproduct, or possibly add a new parameter that means 'No hair product purchased' to report on the customer that has one or more hair products purchased or none.
Thus can you tell me and/or show me sql that will solve my problem?

Then something like this may work (though it may be a bit slow)

HT1363 i have an 8GB ipod touch, it's pretty old now. I've recently tried to reset the whole device as it is being given to someone else and it only comes up with the apple logo and then the screen turns off again. none of the above is helping?

I've recently tried reseting the whole Ipod and it came up with an on-screen message saying ''are you sure you want to reset the device? it will take up to an hour and no music or pictures will be restored'' so i clicked ''Yes, Rest'' (or what ever it said). I am now sitting here 24 hours later with an ipod that won't turn on.
i have tried holding the 'power' button down along with the 'home' button for 30 seconds etc.. and nothing is working; it won't show up on Itunes niether the computer. why won't it turn on?

Camcorder to buy - 1 chip, 3 chip, HD, None of the above

Hello all,
I'm considering a camcorder. I have an old analog camcorder which produces acceptable quality video in iMovie after importing via an A/D converter. I'm thinking about a new digital camcorder and am wondering if anyone knows firsthand if the 3 chip CCD types are really a significant quality jump over the legacy 1 chip CCD units. I'm also considering just hanging on to my analog unit and then jumping straight to the Hi Def camcorders in a year or so. Comments?
Also, are the 1 CCD digital camcorders really an improvement in video quality over the analog units when viewed on a traditional TV?

It all depends on (a) what you want to spend, and (b) whether you really can see and/or appreciate the better quality which you get with the best of today's camcorders ..and if the rest of your audience can.
Analogue camcorders were perfectly OK when there were only analogue camcorders. And now you can edit their footage digitally - and flawlessly - with iMovie, instead of ruining the picture by copying tape to tape, as people did in the seventies and eighties.
3-CCD cams do give a better picture ..smoo-oother colour, less "grainy" pictures in dim light.. than 1-CCD cameras. But if you're shooting mainly outdoors in bright light you probably wouldn't see any difference at all. On the other hand, if you're shooting children's school plays indoors; weddings in dim churches; exotic mosques, temples and glow-worm caves on your holidays, or inside museums and galleries, then the better quality pictures from a 3-CCD camera would be apparent. But that may not be important to you. You may be perfectly happy with slightly 'grainy', dark pictures, if they catch the 'ambience', or feel of the place, nevertheless.
Essentially, you wouldn't know what you were missing - if anything - unless you did side-by-side comparisons ..and no-one's going to shoot their holidays on two different camcorders simultaneously, just to compare results! [..Are they?..]
For most home videos, 1-chip cameras are perfectly good enough! And if your TV's rather old, the imperfect picture on an older tube may not reveal any difference between 1-chip and 3-chip anyway. The only way you could tell, to your own satisfaction, is to spend some time (..make it two or three hours..) in a big electronics store, trying several different camcorders.
What's important to me is that a camera has manual controls as well as automatic settings, so that I can manually set the shutter speed, white balance, audio, and I can add an extra wide-angle lens to the front ..and a proper microphone.. so that I can shoot what I want to shoot ..not just what the camera wants to give me. So I'll want the widest possible view (..for shooting indoors..) with the best possible sound, and the best light I can gather. But if you just want "snapshot" home movies, why bother with all that?
Save your money till hi-def becomes mainstream? ..Sounds reasonabubble.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

Anything you purchased from the iTunes Store can be downloaded again, as often as necessary, as long as it still exists in the iTunes Store.
