How to recreate your iTunes library and playlists:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
Re-creating the iTunes Library file
Note: After re-creating your library, any devices that you sync with iTunes  (Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad) will see your iTunes library as a new  library and will completely resync. The next sync with such a device will take longer and may reset some options since your rebuilt library isn't familiar to the device.
1. Quit iTunes.
2. Locate your iTunes folder (this is the folder that contains the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files).
Operating System
Default location of iTunes Folder
Mac OS X
/Users/[your username]/Music
Microsoft Windows XP
\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
Microsoft Windows Vista
\Users\[your username]\Music\
Microsoft Windows 7
\Users\[your username]\My Music\
3. Open your iTunes folder.
4. Drag the "iTunes Library.xml" or "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the Desktop. If neither is available, learn how to add files back to the Library (because the XML file is not available, playlists and other information will not be available).
5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
Mac OS X
"iTunes Library" or "iTunes Library.itl"
Microsoft Windows
"iTunes Library.itl"
6. Open iTunes.
Important: Do not add any content into iTunes at this point (such as by purchasing something from the iTunes Store).
7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
8. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file on the Desktop.
Mac users: Click Choose.
Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.

  • How can I fix a (damaged) library file?

I just upgraded to itunes 5 last week. I opened itunes yesterday and it said my library file had been damaged so it renamed it with (damaged)and gave me a new library file without any of my custom playlists, etc... I lost a playlist thats really special to me, is there any way for me to repair my .xml library. I've tried renaming the (damaged) library to the regular library and itunes finds it and says its damaged... Also, I don't think all of the songs in my music folder are showing up. I own alot of CDs and it's going to be a huge pain to go through my 6400 songs and make sure every album is showing up in my .xml file..
Does anyone know a way to fix/debug my damaged .xml library?

    Liz hello,
    for your info....
What are the iTunes 4 library files?
The iTunes library is a database iTunes uses to organize your music. Two iTunes library files are created and maintained by iTunes for different purposes. They're both in the iTunes folder.
    iTunes 4. - 4.8
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes 4 Music Library
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml
    iTunes 4.9 - 5.x
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml
    iTunes 4 Music Library/iTunes Library
This file is a database of the songs in your library and the playlists you've created. Some song-specific data is saved in this file. If you delete the file, iTunes creates a new, empty copy when you open the application, but any playlists, song ratings, comments, or other information you created is lost. The iTunes 4 Music Library/iTunes Library file is only used by iTunes.
    iTunes Music Library.xml
This file contains some (but not all) of the same information stored in the iTunes 4 Music Library/iTunes Library files. The purpose of the iTunes Music Library.xml file is to make your music and playlists available to other applications on your computer. In Mac OS X other iLife applications (like iPhoto, iDVD, and iMovie) use this file to make it easier for you to add music from your iTunes library to your projects.

  • How To Fix: "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."

I can't reopen my iTunes after I have to force quit when it does not respond. I get this message:
"The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I've read to do the solutions. I right clicked on both the iTunes and Music folder and went to info for each. On both the lock at the bottom of the Get Info was locked. All of my users including admin can read and write all files within those folders. They are even a shared folder. I clicked on the lock to unlock it, typed in my admin password, and went to the gear to apply to all files inside. After doing that I keep getting the saved message.
I tried another way that I've found online to move my ituneslibrary folder to the desktop and then open my iTunes. In theory the iTunes is supposed to ask for where the iTunes library is. Once that is prompted you quit iTunes and drag the iTunes Library folder back to the folder from the desktop and reopen iTunes to apprently solve the problem. However, when I move the iTunes Library file to the desktop and try to reopne iTunes the icon just keeps bouncing and when I right click the application does not respond.
This problem is only resolved if I restart/shut down my macbook pro which is a 15-inch Core 2 Duo with intel. It will be 5 years old in December. I currently have Lion and the latest iTunes 10.5. This problem started in late December.

If you hold down the option key when starting iTunes, it will allow you to select a library or create a new one.
You can create a new one, and then add all of your iTunes music back in by simply dragging the old iTunes music file onto iTunes.
There are more detailed instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451#
It will show you how to re-build your iTunes database file.

  • How to fix permissions in /Library/Audio/Plug-ins in Lion

I noticed that very annoyingly, Lion comes with the following default permissions for /Library/Audio/Plug-ins:
    drwxr-xr-x  9 root  wheel  306 Oct  7 07:37 Plug-Ins
That means that you the user cannot drag a plug-in in and out as you wish. What a pain in the butt!
    Simple fix:
    sudo chown -R myusername:wheel /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
    sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
Now it's like it should be: you own your own darn folder!
Does anyone have a better way to do this? Like would you recommend just doing the chmod without the chown? Just curious. Also, I wonder why Apple made this curious modification to the system in Lion... it feels like they're increasing the level of restriction upon the owner of the computer from being able to use it themselves.

    1.Click on finder
    2. Look for GO menu at the top of the screen
    3. Click on it and select go to folder option
    4. Paste  or type /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components there
    5. Navigate to this folder
    6. Copy and paste the component to that folder. It should ask if you want to replace the original file(files). Click on yes
    Hope this will help

  • How to fix a damaged PDF file

    Hey guys,
Hope this isn't too easy of a question but I have a PDF that's damaged and won't open on my site. I did a search and there were plenty of results but most seem to point to different kinds of software you have to download. If need be, I'll have to go this way but I figured I'd post here before I did so.
    http://huntingtonbbq.com/New/manuals/20084-E73-0810.pdf
    Thanks in advance

It's probably due to the size and the fact that it's not "Optimized for Fast Web View". When I use PDF Optimzer to reduce the file size, it went from 10.85 MB to 4.58MB. When optimized for fast web view, the first page will display much faster then otherwise.

  • How to fix water damaged iphone4

Hey guys, my brother by mistake got into the pool with my iphone4, so when we realized, we quickly got the phone out  and tried to dry it...
By then we were in the hotel and we didn't have rice, so my friend told me to wrap it in paper towel and try to turn it on later...so we tried it and it still doesn't work..so when I got home from the hotel I put in rice....then I tried to turn it on later it still didn't turn on but when plugged into the charger to charge and u press the sleep wake button to turn on, it turns on but then gets stuck on the apple logo and then after some time it goes blank...
PLEASE HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, AND I DON'T HAVE A WARRANTY ..so after that happens my uncle then guesses it's the battery problem, so he tries another battery but only turns on when u plug it in to charge but still gets stuck on the apple logo..PLEASE HELP ME
PS. MY BATTERY WAS NOT LOW WHEN THE PHONE GOT IN WATER, it was in an okay percent

Exactly what is wrong - cannot say, but some things that do go wrong with water dunking - battery shorts out and dies, powering on while wet can short logic board components, including the solid state storage, the touch screen is damaged to the point of not working.  There have been cases where users have placed the iPhone in a bag of dry, uncooked rice for a week to ten days and let the rice absorb the water.  But, any attempt to power the unit before it is completely dry almost always causes damage to the circuitry.
Opening the iPhone and replacing the battery is absolutely forbidden by Apple...that is an immediate loss of all support from the Apple store genius bar and Apple support centers.

  • Anybody know how to fix this (System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport)

The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

Navigate to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. Locate the particular file. CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Move To Trash from the context menu (do not try dragging it to the Trash.) Restart the computer.

  • I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

Try this (assuming you're using iPhoto 12): make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How can I fix my iTunes library? It doesn't have the right music on it like my iPod.

My problem began when my laptop had to be restored to it's original settings (factory) so it whipped out everything. I went to install iTunes (newest version) which I did not have prirror to the restoration. I went to my Library to listen to music and add music and it was my old library from when I first got my iTunes account. My iPod has the right library that I want and I need to know how I can fix this ASAP. My iPod has the same account on it as what my account on my laptop is logged on as. Need to know how to fix this! Thank you!

  • Items not showing up in library while visible in smart playlists. How to fix?

I just added some music to my iTunes Library. It shows up in my Recently Added smart playlist, as well as newly created smart playlists, but for some reason it isn't in my library. I've searched for it, I've used the column browser, I've tried just scrolling through my Library and it just isn't there. All the tags are correct, and when looking at my iTunes Media folder in Finder, the songs are correctly placed in the Music/Artist/Album folder tree of the iTunes Media folder.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
PS. My iTunes Media folder isn't located on my Macintosh HD, I've moved it to an Airport Disk and pointed iTunes to it in its preferences.

The problem just fixed itself. I got irritated and quit messing with it. When I came back an hour later, it was fixed.
