HT203175 Not syncing ipod with whole of itunes library

My iTunes library on my PC has more music on it than the iPod - when I sync, it does nor sync with the whole of the library - why? - help?

Good morning! I just have a couple questions so I can help. What kind of iPod do you have? What is the capacity? (Example: 16G, 32G, etc...)
Also, how much music are you trying to sync, memory wise?

I have an older ipod with a large itunes library. I have a new ipad2. Both have the same email address but different passwords. Can I merge both itunes libraries?

    Not sure if this helps:-
The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered  owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work.  Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple  Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them.  The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.

  • No Sync IPod with 7.0 ITunes and using Windows 2000.

I've been up and down the search to find sync the IPod up with ITunes 7.0 but everything seems to be with XP. I have W2000. Does anyone know what needs to be done so I can sync up? Sometimes it works and sometimes nothing. Mostly nothing.

Have you tried these several things?
++Reset your iPod (hold the Menu and center buttons together).
++Put your iPod in disk mode, then connect it to your computer.
++Try restarting your computer, then connect your iPod.
++Save your iTunes library, and completely reinstall the program through "Contro Panel -> Add or remove programs" area.
++unplug all other USB devices that are connected to your computer, then connect your iPod.
++See if your iPod is low on charge. If it is, eject it through the Safely Remove Hardware program, and leave it connected for an hour. After that, unplug it, and connect your iPod again in disk mode (see above for details).
++Close iTunes. Try going to Task Manager, to the "Processes" tab. Find these names: "iPodSErvice.exe", "iTuneshelper.exe", and "iTunes.exe". End all of these processes. Reset your iPod, connect it, and open iTunes.
++Have you tried resetting your iPod while connected to your computer?
++Have you tried assigning your iPod a different drive letter? See the steps here -> Assigning your iPod a different drive letter
++Have you tried to complete all the Five R's? REad more about it here -> the Five R's
++Also, you may want to consider going back to iTunes 6. You can find the download of the previous version here -> Download iTunes 6.0.5
++All the suggestions in this article? -> iPod is recognized by Windows, but not iTunes
++Also, see if this is a possibility -> Fast user switching
I'm not sure if you've tried those or not, cause that's just some possibilities I can think of now. If you have any problems with those, post back with the details of your issue, and I'll try to help.

  • Aperture 3.0.3 will not sync images with iPad via iTunes correctly

I've read the forums looking for a solution to why my Aperture 3 library will not sync with my iPad when it is connected in iTunes. I have tried creating another Aperture library (which I then fill with a few images) and iTunes is able to see and import images onto my iPad. But when I switch back to my real Aperture library, iTunes can show the folders and projects but the number of photos in the folders and projects is not showing at all (i.e. 0). The sync process just hangs and does not continue from that point.
I've also tried another suggestion about repairing permissions, removing the .aplibrary extention and using a new "dummy" library and then switching back to the original library. Nothing seems to work. It just seems buggy and slow i.e. spinning beach ball. Otherwise (beyond syncing to the iPad) Aperture runs fine, exports, e-mails, adjustments all works fine and quickly.
I have a fast 1TB hard drive WD Caviar Black with 32 MB cache and only 350 Gigs used as the system hard drive. The Aperture library is located on the system disk and the referenced files are on a FW800 external drive.
Anyone having these same issues? I can't seem to figure it out.
I guess the only workaround at this point is to just export the photos I want to sync to my iPad into another folder or into iPhoto and import them that way. But it's rather annoying to have a "professional" application which doesn't seem to work as advertised (if Aperture is indeed the culprit).

Here is what I have found out. iTunes will only sync to the last Aperture 3 library opened, and will only update when you close Aperture 3 and then reopen iTunes. Thats the building shared previews thing I guess.
I am using iPhoto to sync photos to my iPad and iPhone, not Aperture 3. I export from Aperture 3 as original size JPG then bring in the exported photos into iPhoto. That way I can have multiple Aperture 3 Libraries and not have to worry about iTunes finding the wrong stuff. I know it takes out some of the automagic stuff but at least it works. But remember to close both iPhoto and iTunes before you try to sync, then reopen iTunes. I don't resize any of the photos for the device I let iTunes do that for me.
    Hope this helps

  • Syncing iPod to a new iTunes library - back up question

The PC I used to sync my Daughter's iPod touch to is broken so I need to re sync the iPod to another iTunes library. I have backed it up to iTunes on another PC following instructions on this site but think i now need to restore it so that it syncs with this itunes library, is that correct? If so, I wonder if anyone can tell me if backed up games/apps will retain high scores etc or will she need to start them all over again? Thanks.

If you backed up the original library properly then a restored copy of the library will be treated as the "home" library for the device and everything will work just as it did before. If you only backed up the media then it will be a "new" library and iTunes will propose wiping the device and loading fresh content onto it. This would wipe out all game progress etc.
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post (if required)
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in the apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it should preserve the general account settings, documents, game progress etc. in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract the other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Setting up new iPod with my existing iTunes library?

    Hello all --
This may be a simple question, but I just wanted to play it safe. My original iPod (a classic) has more or less died, so I think I'm going to have to buy a new one. I have a rather large iTunes library and want to make sure I can move my song collection to my new iPod (I haven't purchased it yet).
Is there any trick to it? Or, once my computer recognizes the new iPod, can I just simply click-and-drag the songs to the new, empty iPod?
I'm not going to lose any songs, right? The last thing I'd want to do is have to copy all of my songs from my CD to my computer again.
Please let me know. Thanks so much!

You just connect the new iPod. iTunes will actually bring up a dialog asking if you want to sync your iTunes library to the new iPod, and let you name the iPod.
once my computer recognizes the new iPod, can I just simply click-and-drag the songs to the new, empty iPod?
If you want to do it manually and set the iPod to +manually manage music+, you can. Just say no when iTunes asks if you want to sync. But I suggesting using the automatic sync, unless you have a reason for using the manual "drag and drop" method.
Also, you should go into the iPod DEVICE tabs (in iTunes) to set up how you want to handle videos, podcasts, contacts, etc.

  • Sync AppleTV with multiple accounts' iTunes library on the SAME Mac

I was wondering if this was supported in the new 3.0 release. I found an archived thread from 2007 which stated this was not supported but wondering if anybody was successfully doing this, or has a work around for getting both my and my wife's iTunes libraries (on the same Mac) to sync to the AppleTV.
    Thanks!

no, you can still only sync from 1 itunes library.

  • My iphone 4 is not syncing the music from my itunes library.

I tried to restore the iphone and everything else has been backed up, but the music is not syncing.
I have the "automatically sync" option checked, and have unchecked the "manually manage music and videos" option unchecked. (due to prior suggestions.)
Space is not an issue no is the type of files (all MP3.)
I need help. I restored my phone in hopes of fixing the problem and now I have NO music. I've tried deleting and reinstalling itunes. Is there something I'm missing?

Found the answer. Clicked on my iphone icon > Music > check the box that says sync music.
Blonde moment. The new itunes *****.

  • Why does my Ipod touch 5th gen not sync podcasts with my Windows Itunes? Both are up to date with versions.

I didn't see this asked so sorry if this is a duplicate question.
In Itunes (it is the most recent version for windows available as of 2/12/2014) all my podcasts are showing they have downlaoded to my PC. They don't have the little cloud next to them. I sync my Ipod touch 5th gen. The sync shows everything was synced. I look at the "Whats on this ipod" tab and they are listed. But when I disconnect the ipod via the "eject" icon on the Ipod button in itunes and look at the podcasts they still show as not downloaded (greyed out and if wifi is turned on the little cloud is next to them ).
So whats going on? I had this issue with my ipod touch 4th gen as well and though it was because the podcast app stopped upgrading but the itunes on windwos did. But the syncing of the podcasts are even worse with the 5th gen then they were with the 4th gen.
I typically don't have wifi turned on since I want to sync the ipod via itunes. So I have a central place to keep the old podcasts without having to take space on the ipod itself. I saw some references to the downloading of podacasts are done only via wifi, but that just didn't make sense. Why be able to sync Itunes if they are just going to turn around and make you do the same on the device?
    Any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks for the help in advance.

  • Can I sync more than one of my own ipods to my own itunes library? Same computer.

    Hi,
I lost my 6th generation ipod nano a few months ago. Bought a 4th generation, synced to my itunes library, and now found my old 6th gen nano. The 6th gen nano has my old music on it, but I'm actually more interested in just being able to sync it with my current itunes library. I've since added songs and changed a few playlists. Note - I've been using the same computer all along. If memory serves, I may have had to reinstall itunes software when I purchased the 4th gen ipod for syncing - but I'm pretty sure all my music was still on my computer. Any advice welcome. Many thanks!

Thanks so much for the link stedman1  - and it's likely the third option since I'm the only one on the computer. However, when I connect my newly re0discovered gen 6 ipod, a dialogue box appears stating An Ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod. Then try again. If the problem persists, please uninstall Itunes. Then install Itunes again.
I would think the all my apples devices would just be able to plug into my library. The gen 6 was mine - so even though i lost it for a while, I would assume, it's still would read as mine. And I'm not tech savvy enough to really trust that all my music on my computer will be reinstated in to the library. (Not to mention the window on the ipod itself is asking me to reset or cancel - which means I lose all that other music. I'm worried if I reset my Ipod gen 6 to get it to try and sync with my existing library, I 'll lose both the music on my Ipod (which is ok) AND not be able to recover and then sync the music in my library. (which is not OK). Any suggestions or advice for the technically challenged?
    Many thanks!

  • Can I have more than one ipod with more than  music library on one computer

I was just wondering if i could have 2 different ipods (one a 5th generation and the other ipod touch) with 2 different music libraries on the same computer and itunes? because right now im using my parents computer and my fiance is using my laptop and we're moving so we'll only have one computer in the next few weeks. So if anyone could try to give me an answer or have a solution that would be fantastic lol!

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
