My Mac crashed today for the first time in the seven years I have owned it. I was working in Photoshop. It had been getting slower and slower in Photoshop. Now I can't start the computer at all. Using the Installer CD, I can't get through to use the Disk Utility to try to fix it. The computer gets bogged down in disk utility "gathering disk information." You may have had a hard drive failure. Have you been hearing any unusual sounds? Have you been getting messages about a full hard drive?
Will it boot in Safe Mode? See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)

That little wheel just keeps going round
Recently my MacBook (syst. 10.6.8) has started freezing. Often it's when I'm using Firefox (version 30). I'm not sure though if the problem is Firefox or maybe the Finder, but that little rainbow wheel just keeps going round and I eventually have to reboot. I have run "Repair Permissions" from the start-up/install disk, but it still does it. I also trashed the finder prefs.
I am worried that I've "caught" something from the internet?
Help please anyone. Thanks.You could check the Activity Monitor (see Go in Finder, choose Utilities folder,
and double-click Activity Monitor) to see what may be hanging up and wasting
system resources. You may need to boot the computer from the Installer DVD
and from the menu options there (do not install anything) you can access a
few things; one of them is Disk Utility; you can check and also Repair the HDD.
There are some ideas, & things to check that may be helpful in resolving issues
in this site: Tech Guides - The Safe Mac http://www.thesafemac.com/tech-guides/
There may be something else going on in the computer, so if you have a good
backup of your content or a clone of the entire bootable system on a second
externally enclosed hard disk drive, (it can be 'cloned' back to the computer HD)
then you could do an erase and install, then restore from the clone-copy.
An overly full or problematic hard disk drive may also cause such symptoms.
Damaged files or bad sectors can be a sign of an old hard drive pending failure.
Backup..!

Installing extensions and little circles just keeps going round and round, Help?
When I try to install new extensions, the little circle just keeps on going and the extension doesn't install.
When I go to extensions through the window>Extensions, it says there are three but only two work, onOne Software, which is installed on my machine, is empty.
When advised to download the Adobe Support Adviser, I follow the link to the page, only to be told that Adobe doesn't support this anymore.
Why can't I install any of the extension that I want and where are the onOne Software extensions?Please provide more details. Windows or Mac? Which version of Extension Manager (CS6, CC, 6.0.8, 7.2.1, ...)? Could you provide the download link of the extension if possible?

I have a fourth generation iPod Touch. Last December, I lost it for four months and forgot the passcode. Recently I have tried to restore it in iTunes on my Mac (which runs Yosemite 10.10.1), but I can't. Recovery Mode seems like it is the best option because I can wipe the device from iTunes and use it like new. But there's one small problem. My Sleep/Wake button is broken. I'm not sure what I can do at this point. I could move on from it, because I have an iPad and iPhone now, or I could try getting it fixed. What seems to be the best option now?

My iPad has frozen up. I've tried to power it off but the little pinwheel keeps sping round on a black screen. It won't shut off nor come back to normal screen. I'm using my wife's iPad right now.

If it just comes back to the spinning wheel after resetting power it down w power/home button then hold down home button and plug into a computer, keep holding til u see itunes logo on the screen then let go and follow onscreen instructions to restore ipad -

I tried installing ios7 via itunes. It took a back up of the iphone no problem, then installed ios7. When I went to restore the iphone the last back up was not the one done today. When i tried to restore it I got and error message 2003 which is not listed on the useful information list of error messages.
I would realy appreciate it if anyone could throw some light on what has happened and suggest anything that might help

If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you're using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service. -
my screen smashed so had to get a new phone, my phone hadn't been backed up since march is there ANY way at all I could retrieve my pictures and/or videos? from all of my holidays please any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Photo stream pictures can be viewed only on the devices they were sent to. You can't transfer them back to your phone (or anywhere else). If you didn't back up or import the photos to a computer, and they are no longer on your phone, they're gone. -
I can't see any videos in sites like Youtube. I have Quicktime Mac versions 10 in the application folder and Mac version 7.6 in the utilities folder. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks.
*** may have found a fix ? *** Thanks to your post re: GDI objects I checked task manager ( added column "GDI objects")and saw 700+ whereas working 6.18 was 160 ish Got thinking - what could possibly use that many GDI objects ( firefox only uses a few hundred and it's a platform ) Then it hit me - emoticons ! So in tools/ options/ IM&SMS/ IM Appearance unchecked "show emoticons"and also unchecked "show images and other media previews"restarted Skype and GDI objects now only 164 ( down from 729 )and all other windows are repainting fine and are usable again( my problem was RDP sessions that became unusable, as I work remotely ) To be sure, have rechecked the options and restarted skype and see 700+GDI objects ( goes up from 660 when place call to echo/sound test )and removed them again to get only 164have also rebooted a few times and gone through the whole processof unchecking emoticons, restart, rechecking emoticons, restart to make sure itsnot a fluke. pretty sure this has fixed it for me ( so I now have a working 7.6.0.105 on XP SP3 ),and as your problem "sounds" the same I hope it also works for you. I cannot transfer my Ical on my Imac with Mavericks 10.9.2 to my iphone 4 with the latest operating system. I get error message "403" when it attempts to upload to the cloud before transfering to the iphone. I've tried shutting down the computer and iphone but it has not been successful. There is plenty of data available on the icloud as I've not used it for anything else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Why does it say "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel." when trying to install itunes64installer on my b4 bit windows 7 acer pc? Any help would be much appreciated...
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

I just checked your account, and see that it's active. Are you trying to sign in via Adobe Reader? If so, please choose Help > Check for Updates in Reader and make sure that it-s up-to-date. The most current version, 11.0.07, should alleviate that sign-in error.
