    I see.
    1. 192.168.0.0 addresses are not routable across the public Internet. Even if the whole world knows you're using that space, the information is useless. But if you feel better hiding it, OK.
    2. Internal doesn't allow communications with a physical network either. Only the external type does.
3/4. Your problem is not really with Hyper-V. It's with IP.
Your machines are all able to communicate with each other because they're on the same switch and the same subnet. No gateway is required. If you have a computer with an IP of 192.168.1.8 and its subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, then it will be able to communicate
with any computer on the same switch with an IP of 192.168.1.anything. It's when they need to talk to computers off of that subnet (anything that doesn't fit the 255.255.255 mask) that they have a problem. For that, you need a gateway somewhere. You can't
use "DC" for the gateway because it's not performing routing services.
    You have two choices.
One is to use an external switch so that your guests are directly connected into your physical network. That will take over your WiFi adapter, so you'll probably want to set the share option so your Win8.1 box continues to function. Then just use a common
IP subnet with everything else on your home network.
The second is to set up a software router. If you are using an internal virtual switch, then this has to be in the Win8 environment. I might be mistaken, but I think that
Internet Connection Sharing would even work for this. If you are using an internal virtual switch, then your Win8 system should see two (or more) adapters. One of them is the physical adapter (we'll call it wNetAdapter) and one would be the virtual adapter
(we'll call it vNetAdapter) it uses on the virtual switch. Once you set up ICS, you would have all of your VMs use the IP address that you assigned to vNetAdapter as their gateway.

  • After installing new operating system, I can't connect to internet from an e-mail. What is wrong?

After installing the new operating system, I can't access the internet from an e-mail request. What' wrong?

Finally gave in and called Apple Support.
    1) They had me restart while holding down the Option-Command-P-R keys (this resets the HW apparently. Didn't fix it.
    2) Next they had me move my System Preferences folder to the trash. Still didn't fix it.
    3) Lastly they had me move all my cache files to the trash and then empty the trash. Restarted and it seems to be fixed now.
I was told that sometimes after an upgrade if you don't "delete all your caches" that there can be problems. I'll have to see if the connection holds up since before the problem was intermittent, but at least now I have a case number and all seems well so far.
I encourage those who are experiencing issues to please call Apple Support - it appears that there is no one fix and it depends on so many different factors. If this issue re-appears I'll be back on the phone with them - plus I'll update this thread.
    Thanks!

  • Can't connect to internet from my PC using Nokia N...

    Hello.
I bought a Nokia N8 recently. Its awesome but I still couldn't solve this problem.
I can't connect to the internet from my PC using N8 as a modem.
When I use Ovi Suite, it says "Failed to establish a network connection".
When I use the "Conn. PC to net." mode.. the application says "Valid connection could not be found". But I'm confident my operator's plans and settings/destinations are correct as I can connect and browse the internet from the phone. (Pls still say something if applicable)
When I try to connect to the internet using Windows Network and Sharing Center, it says "A device or driver is not functioning properly" or something similar
Pls help me with this problem. Its really, really urgent
    thanks

You haven't establized a connection to the network,  so you can't use MS network sharing which means you are sharing the PC connection to others. What you wanted is to use the N8 modem to connect to the network.
Uninstall Ovi Suites & install PC suites for your N8. Make sure all drivers are loaded properly. Run pcsuite & just click the network menu to connect to internet. By the way what's the version of your MS OS; XPsp3, Vista or Windows 7 ?
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

I have never heard of any Linux OS geographical limitations. How did you determine that the installation using Chinese was not able to connect to the Internet. Did you properly configure DNS? Any chance of a typing mistake in the previous configuration, or perhaps temporary networking problems from you provider or network side?

  • Unable to connect to internet from SunOS

    HI All,
I am using Solaris 10 over Virtual Box(software). But i am unable to connect to the internet.
I mean to say, only one at time can run(i.e internet or Solaries) in my HP Pavillion dv5 series PC.
when internet connection is ON. Solaris wont start(some sort of error). If i disconnect the LAN cable, my Solaris OS
    run perfectly without an issue.
I guess both (Solaris and LAN cable) using the same port while starting the process.
I am yet not sure how would i start INTERNET on solaris system.
Please, let me know how can i able to connect to the internet from solaris OS (which is running on Virtual box).
    Thankx
    Bikram....

Thas sounds really odd... What is your host OS? I am going to assume you are using the default NAT setting for your virtual nic, try change this to bridge mode and see what happens.

  • Connecting to internet from wireless phone?

Hello there - i have a friend that uses some sort of data type thing to connect her laptop (which is PC) to the internet. Does anybody know if this is possible to do with a macbook pro?
I am trying to find a more economical way to get internet without too much cost-
thanks for anybody who can give info on this-

    belovedjs,
To connect your Macbook Pro to the internet, you must have an unlimited data plan, regardless of the method you use. Unlimited plans are not "economical," by any stretch of the imagination.
All the carriers provide these plans at $60/month, as long as you also have a voice plan. Without a voice plan, the unlimited data packages run $80/month. That's pricey.
Carriers provide wireless "connection cards" to accompany these plans, for a fee. Depending on the carrier, the plan, and the length of the additional contract you must sign, these cards can be anywhere from $79 to around $300. Cards come in the form of Expresscard-34 adapters (which will work with your Macbook Pro), or USB "dongles" that provide the same functionality. Another method to connect is via a Bluetooth or USB (or both) phone that supports "phone-as-modem." Generally speaking, this method is slower, with more complications, than using a connection card, but it does work to provide a broadband connection.
Speaking economically, the best option available is the one offered by Sprint. They have embraced "phone-as-modem," and provide unlimited data access, using your phone, for only $40/month (in addition to the mandatory voice plan). That's the best deal going.
When and where it is available, Sprint's network is solid and fast. Verizon's provides more wide-spread and comprehensive coverage, but you don't get the break when using phone-as-modem. Cingular's coverage is relatively wide-spread, but is slower than the others.

Repairing the HD and permissions isn't necessary but it may be a good precautionary thing to do before you leave to help assure you won't have problems on the road.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
It should not be necessary to make another location in your case, but at the least open Network preferences, select your Ethernet port and click on the Configure button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and verify that the Configure IPv4 drop down menu is set for DHCP. Now, I would suggest that you also click on the Configure IPv6 button and set the drop down menu to Off. Most hotel hardware does not support that option and leaving it turned on might cause a problem. In fact you can leave it turned off at home also because it's not really needed in your home network.
Now, if you want you can instead create a new location when you open Network preferences by simply selection Edit Locations from the Location drop down menu. Create a new location and name it something like Hotels and configure everything just as described previously. Before you turn off the computer to pack up set it to that location so it will be ready when you get to your room and set up.

  • WRT54G lost connection to Internet from Wired computer, but wireless still connect

I have the router hard wired to a desktop computer and have 2 other computers connecting wirelessly through it.  The hard wired computer suddenly could not connect to the internet, yet the 2 wireless computers still can.  The computer was 5 yrs. old and I had bought a new one, so thought it was the best time to set it up.  I have the same problem with the new computer.  The only way I could get access to the internet on it was to run a line from the USB port on the DSL modem directly to the computer.  I can still see the 2 other computers and their files through the router, just can't get the router to see the modem from the hard wired computer.  The 2 wireless computers can access the modem through the router, but the wired one can't!  According to Linksys the problem is with my ethernet/lan on the computer.(both computers?!)  According to the repair/diagnose on my lan connection, it says there is a problem with the router or modem.  Any suggestions?

I found the problem, the router is bad.  I bought a new router and installed it, made no changes to the computer hardware, and the new router worked fine with the ethernet connection for the hard wired computer.  I am really disappointed in the help that I received from linksys.  They kept insisting there was nothing wrong with the router and that the 2 computers I tried to hard wire to the router both had bad ethernet ports.  I will not be buying their products again.

  • Can only connect to Internet from one computer at a time on network

I have a 2 computer network in my office networked with an Asante 10/100 hub. The computers are a iMac 24 (Intel) and an old G4 (PCI). The network has worked fine until just recently. Now, I can only connect to the Internet with one computer at a time...(DSL connection). I checked cables, ports, etc, and I'm wondering if this is a 10.4.9 issue. Coincidentally, I noticed that I am not able to access the Internet via Win XP using Parallels which also worked fine up until recently. I checked with the ISP (AT&T) who confirmed that all is OK on their end. Anyone have similar problem? Could OS X 10.4.9 be the culprit? Any help on this will be much appreciated. Thanks.
    iMac 24   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2G RAM; NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256

I'd consider that a 3 computer network, Parallels being a virtual machine would alias the ethernet interface and need its own IP address. That may or may not have anything to do with your problem. Actually, the way you've described things, it sounds like a lot has to do with your contract with ATT. Is there a routing device at your end?
The only way 10.4.9 could be the culprit would be if it were the routing device.

  • Unable to connect to internet Macbook Pro

This problem first appeared more than a year ago when an update was pushed over.  I had to reset the wireless router in order to restore connection and anytime the isp would change I could not connect again.  So usually I could connect throughout one day (unless I left the computer sitting on for any length of time in which case I would lose connection and have to reset again).
In playing around with my keychain, I found if I synched my keychain password to my login password to my account password the problem disappeared (at leasst for now).  Just thought I would mention as I read others that had this problem and were waiting for Mac engineers to fix it.

That's Mac's response?  To clarify that updates have to be accepted by the user?  What about putting out a fix to the problem the update caused instead of coming up with all kinds of excuses like it was really Intel's fault or like.  Mac has NEVER fixed this problem.  I have tried numerous fixes on blogs by non Mac employees since Mac has done NOTHING.  I have words for hyour answer Sig, but a lady doesn't use them.
Oh by the way, I THOUGHT this fixed the problem but it has only fixed it in part.  I still have to shut down the wireless and reset it to get MacBook Pro to recognize it if I turn off the computer and the address has changed as it is not recognizing the address change automatically.
Again, this was not a problem until Mac sent an update and I was stupid enought to accept the update.
