HT203254 MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

It's too bad these problematic laptops are still floating around. I was unlucky enough to buy one. It lasted 10 hrs before the video died. What an incredible waste and my 3rd "PRO" apple laptop to die out of warranty.
Are there any documents on how this can be fixed on my own since I doubt the machine is worth the $$ Apple wants to charge for a 'logic board' replacement.
I can't justify losing more money on these laptops. The last 2 costed me a total of over 7k after purchase, extended warranty and out of warranty repairs yet they still died and had to be sold for parts.

After posting this I found a few videos on youtube, however I've realized the best thing to do is to also sell it for parts.

  • HT203254 MacBook Pro 2007  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT issues

I have a MacBook Pro from 2007 that all of a sudden went black.  Unfortunately it was out of warranty by one month when it happened.  What would be the least expensive way to replace the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphic processor.  Also, is there a way to use a different graphic processor?
Is it difficult to replace it by myself?  Thanks...

    Hi Reddmanz
How interesting! I posted a reply to you this afternoon asking about Mr. Cook and it appears it was never posted.
It appears a nerve has been touched - how strange. Fortunately I took a print of the discussion page so that's stuffed up their corporate effort - what a load of plonkers. I do have to deal with CEO's, SVP's and the like. All is well until their little apple cart is upset. I have no idea who, or should I say at what level, the editor is that makes these decisions. In most cases they have a lot to learn about corporate trust and public relations. It is highly likely that the person responsible is at a very low level. If he does not think so, he will when he reads this.
Ah well, no Steve to write to - it will have to be the other one - is his name Cook?
Best regards to all and do not get upset by one lowly corporate plonker.
    TY
PS To Mr. Plonker - I've been using and buying Apples since 1986 - probably a long time before you were born.
PPS I suppose you pull this before it goes out but at least you will have read it.

  • Need help regarding "Macbook Pro Distorted Video or No Video issues"

Hi there, I'm new and I'm kinda need help or opinion from all of you Mac users.
I have a MPB which is the first generation released 2005-2006, which its 4 years back. Now, the main problem is after 4 years of non-graphic problems, I encounter the NVIDIA graphics processor problems, which make my screen scrambled and unable to click or do anything. For some reason that Apple did say they will change/replace the graphic processor for free due faulty issue of the NVIDIA. But what I wanted to know and reconfirm is, since my MPB was 1st generation and version 2005/06, will Apple cover the change/replacement NVIDIA processor for free? Because I really need to have a confirmed answer before I went to the AASP in Malaysia, which I know they will make a fuss by asking me to pay with my previous incident which my battery deflect and charger/adapter melted. So, please kindly reply this post. Thank you for you time.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
How about printing out the Apple article about this and taking it with you?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, if you really do have the first MBP introduced in January 2006, it actually has a different video chip, the ATI Mobility Radeon X 1600, which unfortunately is not the NVIDIA chip covered by the NVIDIA program. So if that's what you have, you are out of luck for a free repair. ATI Mobility Radeon chips can also go bad, but there is no program that I know of that will cover them.
Sorry to not have better news for you.
    Good luck!

  • Which Macbook Pro for Video Editing

I'd like to buy a macbook pro for video editing on the go and with all the available features, I can't tell which is best.
I use final cut pro 7 and all footage is HD.
    RAM?
    7200rpm vs. 5400 ?
    DUAL CORE vs. QUAD
    INTEL GRAPHICS?
    RETINA?
It's all very confusing, especially since I haven't looked into buying another mac since I purchased an iMac in '07 (which still rocks).

    - Get either a 7200 or SSD internal drive
*You'll need an external hard drive that runs at least 7200rpm for your media (scratch disk)
    - If you can affor it, go with a Quad Core
    - For graphics, I believe all the new MacBook Pros come with Intel HD Graphics 4000
    - As for CPU speed and RAM, they really go hand in hand with video editing.
    - CPU speed doesn't help if you do not have sufficient RAM cover all of needed video/audio/effect editing and rendering processes.
    - Slower CPU with more RAM means that procesess get covered by the additonal RAM, but will take longer to render and preview during editing.
*So when choosing CPU and RAM, do not sacrifice one for the other.
You can always upgrade RAM later if you can't afford it now.
    - Retina? Doesn't make much of a difference for you. You're not editing 4k video so chose what you like better, or   can afford.
Here a post that goes over some basics

  • What is the best macbook pro for video editing dslr footage?

what is the best macbook pro for video editing dslr footage?

It is the GPU that is important.  All the CPU's will be fast enough.  If you can affords it, the 15" with the NVIDIA GPU is the best.

  • I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and the GPU is causing issues with Yosemite. How can I resolve this issue?

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and the GPU is causing issues with Yosemite. There are a number of issues I have run across:
If I have four tabs open on Safari then I start to get a flickering on the screen from the GPU refreshing
When I leave the computer alone for more than 20 mins the screen saver should start -- what happens is that the screen goes to black. When I move the cursor I do not get the login screen. I have to reboot
FireFox Web browser will not run
I get issues with the computer running very slowly
I have already turned off the transparency option in settings. Any ideas??
    Cheers

Do you have more than one OS on the Mac?
You may want to look at something like http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/. This has a Free Trial window, but it is a commercial application. If there are any heat/sensor issues, this may help.
A SMC Reset or PRAM/NVRAM reset may also help.

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe
most people will tell you to do both pram and smc resets (google) and if you still have issues, either clean install (easy) or troubleshoot (hard)

im running os x10.9.1 macbook pro  do i have a security issue??

    If you mean this:
    goto fail
there is a potential problem, though it's not known to have been exploited. If you're concerned, you can avoid it by temporarily switching from Safari to either Firefox or Chrome when using a public Wi-Fi hotspot.

  • Macbook Pro to video components?

I have a macbook pro and I want to hook it up to component video(yellow).  I bought the Apple Mini-dvi To Video Adapter but I know thats the wrong adapter and I already have the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. I also read somewhere that my computer wont support analog so I would need to get a convertor???  I have the audio figured out as thats easy but the video is killing me.  If anybody has the easy answer please let me know what I need to get and do to make this happen.
I also thought I may be able to get a DVI to RCA adapter but I was told that wouldn't work either.
    Thanks

I just want to use it to watch netflix on a larger screen.

  • New macbook pro to video

I need to know if the Apple mini- DVI to video adapter works for the macbook pro late 2008-2009 or what kind of adapter do i need to connect by composite video and s-video???
    Please help me!

If you have a silver unibody mbp (I bought mine in 12/08) you need a mini DisplayPort to VGA/DVI/etc. adapter. afaik mini DisplayPort is something Apple made up, it is not a standard and the cables are only available from Apple store. It is not the same as mini-DVI. Even non-Apple store outlets like Best Buy don't have the cables yet.
If you need to go to composite/SVideo, you will need another adapter if there is no direct adapter.
fwiw I am using a mini DisplayPort to VGA cable right now and it works great. I have read about flashing display issues but have not experienced same....yet.

  • MacBook Pro missing video adaptor

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro (Uniboby). I need to use it on a theater show with a video projector that will be 15 meters away.
The projector has S-vidéo, Dsub15 ou RCA inputs.
What is the best solution knowing Apple does not have a direct to RCA adaptor.
The video is standard PAL (720x572).
    - Mini DisplayPort to VGA then VGA to RCA adaptor
    - Mini DisplayPort to DVI then DVI to video Apple (2 Apple adaptors)
    Better solutions? Thank you.

    Hi Rod,
    You got it right
I have access (it is not mine) to a video projector + cable.
The projector will be installed on a lights structure inside a theater.
The cable will a be +/- 15 metres long.
The basic question was: how to make it work with a MBP 2009?
It turns out that a good composite cable is OK (I was worried about signal quality at the end).
So I don't have to find a VGA cable...
Finally, it is pretty simple Thank you -Yves.

  • Late 2007 MacBook Pro S-Video adapter no output.

I've troubleshooted everything I can, so hopefully one of you can help me!
My Fiancé's mom has a late 2007 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. She has an older tv, so I was wanting to mirror the display so she can watch Netflix on her TV.
After digging around on the Internet, other users said the APPLE M9267G/A adapter solved this problem without the need for a converter box, or upscaler. Needless to say, it doesn't work..
I've tested the cable, port on the computer, and they both work. I've tried running just the yellow Composite video out instead of the S video through the video in on the TV, and a VCR... Nothing.
I used my old Powerbook 1.67, which has an S Video out to the TV, and it works perfect. When I plug the adapter into the Powerbook's Dual Link DVI port, same port as the MacBook Pro, it doesn't work..
I chose S-Video, even though the TV has Component inputs, because other forums said it wouldn't work without an expensive converter box.
They said this would be the solution.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Same problem, though with an early-2008 MBP. Things worked fine with 10.6.x and as soon as I went to 10.9 the external display stopped working.
The first time I plug in the adaptor (whether or not there is a video cable attached) the screen goes black and nothing shows up on the external screen. When I unplug the adaptor, I get the display back on the MBP but it's at low resolution and it has put me at the general login screen. When I put the adaptor back in the second time, it essentially locks up the display to where it is black and no key presses or adaptor removals brings the display back. I have to reset the MBP by holding down the power button. I submitted a bug report too, but have no faith Apple will do anything. Big fail, Apple.

  • Looking to buy a refurbished MacBook Pro for video editing. Need suggestions on what to look for.

    Hey Everyone,
I already own a 2012 Mac Pro Desktop. I do some pretty advanced video editing on it, using FCPX and After Effects, with FXFactory and many other plugins.
I need to invest in a MacBook Pro so I can transfer my projects and edit at different locations.
I'm looking for a refurbished or used model to save some money where I can.
My budget is not too large, but I can probably manage $1,000 - $1,500
Can anyone suggest a good model (im guessing 2011-2012) and a good graphics card to look for, so it can handle this type of stuff. I will obviously max out my RAM also.
Thank you so much for all the suggestions in advance!!

    Hey BobRzand OGELTHORPE
Thanks for your reply! BobRzJust looking to clarify.. When you said "Also, that's typically not on the 13" models but is on the 15" (or the 17..." were you referring to the onboard graphics memory? Should I stay away from a 13 inch? I'm going to follow OGELTHORP''sadvice and go for the 2011 model. The 13 inch are the most affordable and I've found ones with a 2.8GHz Processor that is right in my price range. Thanks again for your help guys!
